Slow Sabbath: An Exploration Of Postures, Places, And Spaces For Being With God, Hearing His Voice, And Receiving His Care, Cathy E. Freytag
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
While the notion of Sabbath will not be unfamiliar to most readers of this journal, the importance of embracing – and perhaps reconceptualizing – Sabbath as an essential element of responsive soul care might not emerge at the top of one’s list of self-care priorities. Yet, in order to serve those entrusted to our care with the very best we can offer, we must care responsively for ourselves (see Luke 10:27). Previously, I have made the case that embracing Sabbath is a critical component in a healthy, sustainable approach to nourishing self care for the Christian educator (Freytag, 2016). In …

Leadership Connection
Session presented on Monday, September 19, 2016:
The academic success and retention of nursing students has gained increased attention as the United States endures the most severe nursing shortage in history. While there is a need for greater numbers of registered nurses in general, there is a specific need to increase the baccalaureate prepared nurse to 80 percent by 2020 (AACN, 2008; IOM, 2011). In response to meeting this current educational need, the growth of online RN-to-BSN nursing programs fulfills this demand. Improving retention in these particular programs will help meet the demands for increasing numbers of BSN-educated nurses. Leadership …

Leadership Connection
Session presented on Sunday, September 18, 2016:
Sexual assault is a widespread problem. Nationally 19.3% of all women have reported being raped and 43.9% of all women have reported sexual assault other than rape (however, it is estimated that only 16% of these incidences are reported to law enforcement). A literature review was conducted and the goal of this research is to apply neurobiological theory of tonic immobility to understand underreporting of sexual assault. Tonic immobility (AKA 'rape-induced paralysis') is defined as an uncontrollable mammalian response in fearful and inescapable dangerous situations. Driven by the reptilian brain, this is a …

Beyond Boundaries: Evaluating Bl/Yaoi Subject Headings In Academic Library Classification, Cecilia Zhang
Beyond Boundaries: Evaluating Bl/Yaoi Subject Headings In Academic Library Classification, Cecilia Zhang
Journal of East Asian Libraries
This study critically evaluates the effectiveness of the newly established Library of Congress Subject Headings, "Boys' Love (Gay Erotica)" and "Yaoi (Gay Erotica)," in classifying and facilitating the retrieval of information related to these genres. By examining the complex history of these terms within fan communities in Japan, China, and Korea across different historical periods, this research argues that the current LCSH oversimplifies the genre's rich cultural context and ongoing innovation, creating barriers to effective information retrieval and access. Additionally, the use of the term "Gay Erotica" is misaligned with the nuanced nature of BL/Yaoi, further complicating its classification. This …

Impact Of Equine Programs To Treat Autism On Caregiver Stress, Jennifer May
Group: Northern Arizona University School of Nursing, DNP Doctoral Papers
When a child is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), caregivers must navigate a complicated maze of information while experiencing their own emotional journey. Maladaptive behaviors seen in children with ASD can make daily routine tasks difficult to complete and attribute to higher levels of caregiver stress. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches in treating ASD are gaining interest as caregivers are becoming involved in care planning. Equine programs are becoming increasingly popular options to treat maladaptive behaviors associated with ASD. The purpose of this project was to evaluate if equine programs in the Phoenix, Arizona area used to treat …

Development Of A New Practice Model: Postmortem Sexual Evidence Collection Forensic Examiner Multimedia Training Module, Kirsten O. Turkington
Group: Northern Arizona University School of Nursing, DNP Doctoral Papers
The aim of this Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) practice improvement initiative was to design an online multimedia training module for postmortem sexual evidence collection. FNEs, as clinical experts in antemortem sexual assault and interpersonal violence evidence collection, are uniquely qualified for the expanded role in postmortem sexual evidence collection. Current forensic literature lacks data regarding injury identification in sexual homicide victims limiting forensic training, new program development and potential advancements in forensic research. Additionally, inconsistent data collection in sexual homicides poses prosecution concerns with identification of sexual homicides and evidentiary examinations. Antemortem and postmortem sexual evidence collections are not identical …

Npwh Position Statement: Prevention Of Alcohol Exposed Pregnancies [April 2021 Update], National Association Of Nurse Practitioners In Women's Health
Group: National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health (NPWH)
The National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health (NPWH) advocates for the use of evidence-based strategies by women's health nurse practitioners (WHNPs) and other advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who provide healthcare for reproductive-age women to prevent alcohol-exposed pregnancies (AEPs). Foremost is the strategy of universal screening for alcohol use in primary care settings for all adult patients age 18 years or older, including pregnant women. Strategies also extend to offering a brief behavioral intervention to individuals who screen positive for excessive alcohol use and referrals to specialty services as needed with appropriate follow up.

NPWH supports ongoing research on the effects of marijuana use on fetal and neonatal outcomes, long-term effects on neurodevelopment, and safety of use during breastfeeding.
The Humanistic Foundations Of Imogene King's Theory Of Mutual Goal Attainment And Implications, Beverly J. Whelton
The Humanistic Foundations Of Imogene King's Theory Of Mutual Goal Attainment And Implications, Beverly J. Whelton
Group: King International Nursing Group
This presentation provides the humanistic foundations of Imogen King's theory of Mutual Goal Attainment through the Classical-Modern synthesis of the Contemporary philosopher, Norris Clark. Classical philosophy tells us humans are substantial (matter/form) beings with the capacities of knowing, reasoning and choosing from options we know. Modern philosophy tells us humans possess their own sense of self. They are beings towards others with self-possession and are self-transcendent and self-communicative finding fulfillment in self-giving. These natural capacities need to be nurtured and supported through education and mutual decision making.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly gaining popularity as individuals, groups, and organizations discover and apply its expanding capabilities. Generative AI creates or alters various content types including text, image, audio, and video that are realistic and challenging to identify as AI-generated constructs. However, guardrails preventing malicious use of AI are easily bypassed. Numerous indications suggest that scammers are already using AI to enhance already successful scams, improving scam effectiveness, speed and credibility, while reducing detectability of scams that target older adults, who are known to be slow to adopt new technologies. Through hypothetical cases analysis of two leading scams, the …
