Nanomedicine holds great potential for revolutionizing medical treatment. Ongoing research and advancements in nanotechnology are continuously expanding the possibilities, promising significant advancements in healthcare. To fully harness the potential of nanotechnology in medical applications, it is crucial to conduct safety evaluations for the nanomedicines that offer effective benefits in the preclinical stage. Our recent efficacy studies indicated that rapamycin perfluorocarbon (PFC) nanoparticles showed promise in mitigating cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). As cisplatin is routinely administered to ovarian cancer patients as their first-line chemotherapy, in this study, we focused on evaluating the safety of rapamycin PFC nanoparticles in mice bearing …
A Christian Vision Of Freedom And Discovery: Neutrality As An Obstacle To Freedom, Karen Jordan
A Christian Vision Of Freedom And Discovery: Neutrality As An Obstacle To Freedom, Karen Jordan
Tennessee Journal of Law and Policy
This article presents the underlying vision for the argument that principles of liberal neutrality pose a genuine obstacle to freedom in democratic society. There is a growing concern that liberty and justice are unattainable in modern democratic societies that are grounded in neutrality, including the United States. Experience has demonstrated significant shortcomings of the modern freedom movements grounded in political theories, which—along with the theory of neutrality—reject the need for core substantive values to guide law and policy. The underlying basis of such theories is a particular modern conception of freedom. But a well-grounded and reasoned alternative vision of human …

The development of technology has brought about various transformations in the lines of people's lives, one of which is in political contestation. A political contestation in Indonesia has just passed namely the 2024 General Election. The Indonesian people elected 4 Legislative Members and 1 Pair of Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates in that election. There were three candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election. Candidate Pair Prabowo-Gibran, Candidate Pair Anies-Muhaimin and Candidate Pair Ganjar-Mahfud. In the campaign process, something was interesting, namely that the discourse battle had shifted to a non-discourse battle. One is politainment, which the candidate pairs presents …

Thermal Vision Through Obscuring Weather: Advanced Segmentation And Regeneration Techniques For Enhancing Adas In Extreme Conditions, Mohammed Abuhussein
Thermal Vision Through Obscuring Weather: Advanced Segmentation And Regeneration Techniques For Enhancing Adas In Extreme Conditions, Mohammed Abuhussein
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
This dissertation synthesizes a method based on studies focused on enhancing segmentation and inpainting of obscured regions within thermal imagery, specifically targeting cloud segmentation in Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) images. The research extensively evaluates various classical segmentation algorithms, including thresholding, edge-based, region-based, clustering, and texture analysis. We extensively studied the performance of these methods. The findings from this extensive study helped us decide where to take this research. The next research paper introduces a new approach to the tile-based segmentation of occlusion clouds using the Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM). This technique extracts features from local tiles to train a classifier, …
The Role Of Siamese In G2 Checkpoint Regulation In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Martha A. Schwall
The Role Of Siamese In G2 Checkpoint Regulation In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Martha A. Schwall
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Cyclin-cyclin dependent kinase (Cyclin-CDK) pairs regulate progression through the checkpoints of the cell cycle. They bind with some specificity and must be bound to for their regulative properties to be active. The presence of cyclin-CDKs is conserved throughout eukaryotes, while differences in specifics exist between yeast, animals, and plants. In Arabidopsis, SIAMESE (SIM) is a CDK inhibitor that restricts progression through mitosis. Overexpression of SIM is required for endoreplication in Arabidopsis trichomes, and overexpression of SIM results in increased endoreplication in leaf epidermal cells. SIM is expressed at high levels in the root elongation zone, where it plays a …

Nature Brings Happiness: Contact With Nature As Mediator Between Nature Relatedness And Well-Being Among Urban Communities In Indonesia, Bartolomeus Yofana Adiwena, Ratna Djuwita
Psychological Research on Urban Society
Well-being is one of the most important elements and is known to be closely related to various aspects of human life, such as physiological health. Previous studies demonstrate that the natural environment positively contributes to well-being. However, most research on the natural environment and well-being mainly focuses on situational factors, such as contact with the natural environment, and ignores dispositional factors, such as nature relatedness. Thus, the current study aims to examine the role of nature relatedness (dispositional factor) and contact with nature (situational factor) in improving well-being among urban communities in Indonesia. This study uses a cross-sectional design and …

BACKGROUND: The invasion of glioblastoma cells beyond the visible tumor margin depicted by conventional neuroimaging is believed to mediate recurrence and predict poor survival. Radiomic biomarkers that are associated with the direction and extent of tumor infiltration are, however, non-existent.
METHODS: Patients from a single center with newly diagnosed glioblastoma (
RESULTS: In the principal enrollment cohort of patients with glioblastoma, all cases displayed tractography patterns with tumor-intersecting tract bundles extending into brain parenchyma, a phenotype which was reproduced in PDX mice as well as in a larger comparison cohort of glioblastoma patients (
CONCLUSIONS: QSI discriminates tumor-specific patterns of …

Blockade of the immune checkpoints programmed death-1 (PD-1) and cytotoxic lymphocyte antigen 4 has improved outcomes for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), yet most still fail to achieve objective clinical benefit. MET plays key roles in both HCC tumorigenesis and immunosuppressive conditioning; however, inhibition of MET causes upregulation of PD-ligand 1 (PD-L1) suggesting the use of these inhibitors in the context of PD-1 blockade. We sought to investigate across the Hepa1-6, HCA-1 and diethylnitrosamine (DEN) models of HCC whether the combination of more specific type I versus more pleiotropic type II MET inhibitors would confer superior outcomes in combination with …

Background: Aside from the canonical role of PDL1 as a tumour surface-expressed immune checkpoint molecule, tumour-intrinsic PDL1 signals regulate non-canonical immunopathological pathways mediating treatment resistance whose significance, mechanisms, and therapeutic targeting remain incompletely understood. Recent reports implicate tumour-intrinsic PDL1 signals in the DNA damage response (DDR), including promoting homologous recombination DNA damage repair and mRNA stability of DDR proteins, but many mechanistic details remain undefined.
Methods: We genetically depleted PDL1 from transplantable mouse and human cancer cell lines to understand consequences of tumour-intrinsic PDL1 signals in the DNA damage response. We complemented this work with studies of primary human tumours …

The Heroine Archetype, Annabelle L. Nelson
The Heroine Archetype, Annabelle L. Nelson
Heroism Science
Theorists and researchers have documented some of the characteristics of heroes which include humility, endurance, courage, vulnerability, perseverance, and the choice to solve societal problems with moral action. These characteristics help a hero complete a journey derived from Campbell’s The Hero with A Thousand Faces. The journey’s cycle begins with a normal state when a call to adventure moves a person to face tests, rely on helpers and transform the self to solve dilemmas. Identifying with a hero as an archetype can activate a psychodynamic and open awareness for insight and emotional strength. Usually, a hero is seen as non-gender …

Slow Sabbath: An Exploration Of Postures, Places, And Spaces For Being With God, Hearing His Voice, And Receiving His Care, Cathy E. Freytag
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
While the notion of Sabbath will not be unfamiliar to most readers of this journal, the importance of embracing – and perhaps reconceptualizing – Sabbath as an essential element of responsive soul care might not emerge at the top of one’s list of self-care priorities. Yet, in order to serve those entrusted to our care with the very best we can offer, we must care responsively for ourselves (see Luke 10:27). Previously, I have made the case that embracing Sabbath is a critical component in a healthy, sustainable approach to nourishing self care for the Christian educator (Freytag, 2016). In …
