Neurophysiology And Endocrine Responses To Hunger And Satiety Mechanisms: The Brain-Gut Crosstalk, Nour Shakir Rezaieg, Muthanna M. Awad
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Background: Obesity is a main public health problem which substantially increases the risk of many diseases. The complex neural circuitry controls energy homeostasis and food consumption by the incorporation of hormonal and neural signals. Circulating hormones, in specific the gut hormones, have been found to be very important in appetite regulation. These hormones transfer energy situation signs to the brain throughout three principle paths: the circulation system, activation of the vagus nerve, and direct modification of main brain regions such as the hypothalamus and brainstem. The control of food eating is not exclusively dependent on the homeostatic processes, rather it …

A Novel Chaotic Dna-Based Image Cryptosystem Leveraging Euclidean Division, Dynamic Josephus Traversal, And Reservoir Computing, Ahmed Kareem Shibeeb, Salah Albermany, Sadiq A. Mehdi
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
This study presents a new chaotic DNA-based image cryptosystem that combines Euclidean division, dynamic Josephus traversal (DJT), and reservoir computing to address the weaknesses of current methods. Old chaotic DNA cryptosystems usually have problems such as using the same keys for different messages, simple DNA processes, and being vulnerable to attacks where the attacker can choose the input or try many options. The cryptosystem in this study uses a 7D hyperchaotic system that starts with keys created from SHA-512 hashes to produce changing keystreams based on the plaintext, making it very strong against such attacks. The proposed cryptosystem uses a …

Understanding Humorous Contradictions In Comics: A Multi-Agent Debate Approach, Suparna Das
Master’s Dissertations
Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive reasoning capabilities, yet their ability to understand and generate nuanced humor—particularly in contexts involving juxtaposition and contradictory narratives—remains a significant challenge. This thesis explores the application of advanced reasoning techniques, specifically multi-agent debate, to enhance LLMs’ performance in understanding and interpreting humor derived from juxtaposed comic panels. . Leveraging the YesBut benchmark—a dataset designed to evaluate AI models on tasks ranging from literal description generation to deep narrative reasoning, we explore how multi-agent debate can address key limitations in current models, such as visual misinterpretation, reasoning gaps, and hallucination. Location Selection Of Migrating Beetles Under Neutrosophic Model With Sensitivity And Comparative Analysis, Rabih Sbera, Ahmed A El-Douh, Darin Shafek, Tareef S. Alkellezli
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Location Selection of Migrating Beetles has different criteria to select the best location. So, multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) is used to deal with different and numerous criteria in this study. This study proposes an MCDM methodology to rank the locations and select the best criterion. The average method is used to compute the criteria weights. The locations are ranked using the root assessment method (RAM). This study uses eight criteria and 20 locations. We use the single valued neutrosophic numbers (SVNNs) to overcome uncertainty and vague information. The RAM methodology is used under the SVNNs. The results show that Availability …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Dual supply chains with green and non-green products are an important aspect of supply chain management, which enable companies to balance traditional operations with ethical and eco-friendly practices to reduce carbon emissions. This study proposed a novel approach that combines the Probabilistic Simplified Neutrosophic Set (PSNS) with the Ranking of Alternatives Method (RAM) for the selection of best strategy selection for dual supply chains with green and non-green products. The novel approach uses PSNS as a representation of uncertainty, by incorporating probabilistic degrees of truth, indeterminacy, and falsity, which occurred in real life situations. Furthermore, RAM illustrates efficient ranking and …

Water From Stone: Extracting Leadership Wisdom From Moses' Mistake In Striking The Rock, Hershey H. Friedman, Joshua Krausz
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
This paper explores the leadership lessons embedded in the story of Moses striking the rock rather than speaking to it. While seemingly a simple act of disobedience, it highlights the crucial need for leaders to adapt their approach based on the situation. Just as Moses faced a new generation with different needs, leaders today must understand the complex interplay of social and psychological factors within their teams. Proactive problem-solving, rather than reactive responses, is critical. Furthermore, fostering a collaborative environment where individuals work towards a shared purpose, independent of a single leader, is essential to avoid dependency and encourage healthy …
Emerging Paths Of Presencing Leadership: A Nature-Inspired Framework For Cultivating Presencing As A Way Of Being, Olen Gunnlaugson
Emerging Paths Of Presencing Leadership: A Nature-Inspired Framework For Cultivating Presencing As A Way Of Being, Olen Gunnlaugson
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
This article reimagines leadership as an ecologically attuned practice of presencing, grounded in ethical responsiveness to nature’s underlying generative intelligence. It invites leaders to cultivate a nature-informed sensibility and imaginal attunement to emergence. Rooted in three naturesourced, orienting principles — the Rhizomic, Telluric, and Heliotropic — this framework integrates Dynamic Presencing’s (DP) foundational gestures of letting go, letting be, and letting come. These principles guide leaders through three interwoven narrative phases of leadership apprenticeship: Coming Home, Being Home, and Venturing Forth from Within. The Rhizomic principle invites a grounded, non-linear mode of leadership rooted in humility and openness, supporting leaders …

Taking Kinship Into The Classroom By Indigenous Knowing: We Are All Related Somehow, Charlton Long
Journal of Indigenous Research
This article explores the integration of Indigenous knowledge into the classroom. It has been claimed that studies which do not promote revitalization of Indigenous communities should not be conducted. However, this article's intent is to support Indigenous communities and our way of knowing. The purpose of this paper is to stimulate thinking within Indigenous educational communities about the possibilities of incorporating kinship within students’ and teachers’ interactions for successful educational purposes. An alternative approach to how teachers and students interact in the classroom. This topic will also demonstrate the importance of Indigenous epistemologies with a theory that permits Indigenous scholars …
Censorship In The Media
Communication Research Trends
The principle of freedom of expression in the press, book publishing and broadcasting has been one of the hard-won battles in human history. Without this freedom, a democratic society,, could not exist. Yet every community and nation has to make painful decisions about what will, or will not be communicated. Libel and privacy are obvious examples. Otherwise our societies would virtually disintegrate. Does freedom of speech have limits? If so, how do we decide on these limits?
New forms of censorship are always creeping in. Currently it is insinuated that consumer protection groups such as Action for Children's Television in …
The Language Of Film And Television
The Language Of Film And Television
Communication Research Trends
An increasing number of people receive most of their news, entertainment and even religious inspiration through the visual media of film, television or illustrated magazines. We all "watch" television.James Monaco notes that some cats watch television attentively! But how well do we grasp the specific language of the visual media?
In countries such as the U.S., there is evidence that the post-1950 generation that has grown up with television has a pattern of thinking more attuned to the visual than to print media. Yet, some cross-cultural studies suggest that many American children, for all of the long hours of TV …

Earthjustice: The Role Of The African Regional Human Rights System In Containing Climate Change, Bright Nkrumah, Ebenezer Durojaye, Maria Usang Assim
Journal of African Policy Studies
At the turn of the millennium, the landscape of Africa has been punctuated by intense weather conditions. With a disproportionate percentage of the continent’s population bearing the brunt of climate-induced heatwaves, deluges, and drought, it is expected that this phenomenon will spur regional climate litigation. The essay argues that although there is an evolution of climate cases submitted at the national level, this development has not evolved to the African regional human rights system. The lack of cases at the regional level beckons one to explore why (potential)victims are unable or unwilling to explore these mechanisms given their role in …

The Spectrum Of Childhood-Onset Lower Motor Neuron Disease Of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Phenotype Associated With Survival Motor Neuron-2 Gene Deletion, Somenath Ganguly, Durga Prasad Chakraborty, Satyabrata Roychoudhury, Madhumita Nandi, Suman Das
Journal of Pediatric Neurology
Pediatric lower motor neuron disease is clinically and genetically heterogeneous. We characterized disease progression among children with the spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) phenotype having 2:0 (group A) and 2:1 (group B) of the survival motor neuron 1/2 (SMN1:SMN2) genotype over 1 year. We included children aged 0 to 12 with the SMA phenotype between January 2018 and December 2021. Their demographic, clinical (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test of Neuromuscular Disorders [CHOP-INTEND] scores), electrophysiological, radiological, and genetic data were collected from past medical records. The sequential CHOP-INTEND scores and the compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitudes were compared using an …

Journal of Pediatric Neurology
Despite being classically reported as caused by mutations in solute carriers genes (SLC2A1), it has been recently shown that also mutations in ALDH7A1 can cause pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy (PDE). ALDH7A1 is a gene encoding for the antiquitin, an enzyme that catalyzes the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent dehydrogenation of L-α-aminoadipic semialdehyde/L-Δ1-piperideine 6-carboxylate. It is a highly treatable disorder, but nevertheless it is still not certain when to consider this diagnosis and how to test for it. It is possible to identify a classical form and an atypical one of PDE associated with more than 70 mutations of ALDH7A1 gene. The typical form is …

Beyond The Lawn: Bylaws For Biodiversity - Evidence-Based Recommendations For Future Practice And Policy Development, Nina-Marie Lister, Sabrina Careri
Cities and the Environment (CATE)
Across Canada and globally, there is growing momentum to mitigate the impacts of climate change and habitat loss on biodiversity. These challenges transcend the jurisdiction of any single government or agency. In response, people across urban areas are increasingly taking action, particularly through landscaping strategies that foster and support biodiversity at home in their gardens. In North American cities, private lands make up a significant and often majority of the urban matrix. As such, private lands offer opportunities to address anthropogenic socio-environmental impacts in cities in ways that complement municipal initiatives on public lands. Specifically, rewilding initiatives on private lands, …

The Criminal Record As A Death Sentence: Unmasking The Ignored Realities Of Formerly Incarcerated University Graduates On Professional Licencing Challenges, Mbongiseni Mdakane, Bongani Innocent Nkambule, Sindile Amina Ngubane
Journal of Prison Education Research
Recently it is increasingly common practice for universities and professional registration councils to probe into applicants’ criminal records as a precondition for admission. Using social constructionism, this qualitative study explored the experiences of six formerly incarcerated individuals previously sentenced to life imprisonment, who hold professional university degrees in Law, Education, Psychology and Social Work and investigated whether having a criminal record had any bearing when applying for professional registration. The results indicate that due to the perceived stigma of, and discrimination against a criminal record, there exist varying degrees of criminal record disclosure ranging from partial, to full and non-disclosure. …

The report analyses the adoption of FOSS in India, primarily through case studies across four sectors (healthcare, education, finance, and software and IT services) and different types of organisations (start-ups, non-profits, medium, large, and public sector organisations). The study highlights both the benefits and challenges experienced by organisations using FOSS. The study illustrates that while organisations benefit from increased innovations, cost/ time savings, flexibility, and enhanced security, they also face challenges such as lack of enough skilled personnel and limited community support. Organisations are also seen taking a cautious approach to licensing, favouring permissive licenses over restrictive ones. Based on …

In this study, we conducted high-throughput spatiotemporal analysis of primary cilia length and orientation across 22 mouse brain regions. We developed automated image analysis algorithms, which enabled us to examine over 10 million individual cilia, generating the largest spatiotemporal atlas of cilia. We found that cilia length and orientation display substantial variations across different brain regions and exhibit fluctuations over a 24-h period, with region-specific peaks during light-dark phases. Our analysis revealed unique orientation patterns of cilia, suggesting that cilia orientation within the brain is not random but follows specific patterns. Using BioCycle, we identified rhythmic fluctuations in cilia length …

Host Plant Resistance To Stink Bugs In Commercial Soybean Varieties, Cristofer Martinez
Host Plant Resistance To Stink Bugs In Commercial Soybean Varieties, Cristofer Martinez
LSU Master's Theses
Soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merr. (Fabales: Fabaceae), is a major crop in Louisiana, where stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) are economically important pests that reduce seed quality and yield. Among them, the redbanded stink bug, Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood), is considered the most damaging species in the southern U.S. soybean system. Recently, Euschistus quadrator (Rolston), historically a minor pest, has increased in abundance and now dominates the brown stink bug complex in Louisiana soybean fields. While P. guildinii has been widely studied, little is known about E. quadrator.
Given the increasing pest complexity, sustainable management strategies are needed to target …

Investigation Of Subcellular Damage And Long-Term Non-Cancerous Cardiovascular Effects Following Whole-Body Photon Irradiation, Nousha Afshari
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Current radiobiological models focus primarily on nuclear DNA damage and fail to fully explain radiation-induced noncancerous health effects. This dissertation investigates whether non-nuclear subcellular structures contribute to radiation-induced biological damage through experimental biomarker analysis and computational microdosimetry. The central hypothesis posits that whole-body photon irradiation results in subcellular non-nuclear damage, specifically increased circulating mitochondrial DNA concentrations, that correlates with radiation dose and long-term noncancerous effects such as cardiovascular disease.
Specific Aim 1 measured mitochondrial and nuclear DNA concentrations in banked blood samples from 72 Chinese rhesus macaques that previously received whole-body photon irradiation ($0-10$ Gy) from Cobalt-60 or LINAC sources. …

Establishment Of A Reverse Genetics System For Studying Human Immune Functions In Mice, Priya Pal, Shuai Gao, Hongbo Gao, Xiwen Qin, Marina Cella, Qiankun Wang, Liang Shan
2020-Current year OA Pubs
Reverse genetics approaches in mice are widely used to understand gene functions and their aberrations in diseases. However, limitations exist in translating findings from animal models to human physiology. Humanized mice provide a powerful bridge to understanding human physiology and mechanisms of disease pathogenesis while maintaining the feasibility of working with small animals. Methods for generating humanized mouse models that allow scientists to probe contributions of particular genes have been rudimentary. Here, we established an efficient method for generating genetically modified human cord blood-derived CD34
