The Modern Mathematics Classroom: A Collection Of Virtual Manipulatives For Teachers And Students, David Stowell
The Modern Mathematics Classroom: A Collection Of Virtual Manipulatives For Teachers And Students, David Stowell
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
An important assumption in the implementation of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards 2000 is that the mathematics classroom is a place where students are actively involved in the learning process. One way to foster such a learning environment is by using manipulatives. By their nature, manipulatives make the learning of mathematics a discovery-based activity. As computer use increases in the classroom, virtual manipulatives will become more important as instructional tools. Virtual manipulatives offer advantages over their traditional versions. Most important is their dynamic nature. Their dynamic capabilities provide two main benefits. First, the number of potential …
Exploring The Effectiveness Of Self-Management Programs For Students With Disruptive Behaviors: A Comprehensive Literature Review, Heidi Kupiec
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Disruptive behaviors exhibited by children and youth pose a major problem for students exhibiting the behaviors, their peers, parents, and teachers. Disruptive behaviors including shouting, aggression, off-task behaviors, and noncompliance, correlate with poor social skills, low peer acceptance, higher rates of academic deficiencies, and in adulthood instability in relationships and employment. Self-management programs employ traditional behavior management methods and with self-management components to teach students to self-monitor or evaluate their behavior. By teaching students to be aware of and to manage their own behavior students may be better able to generalize appropriate behaviors to other less supervised settings, complete more …

Teacher And Student Economic Understanding In Transition Economics, William Walstad, Ken Rebeck
Teacher And Student Economic Understanding In Transition Economics, William Walstad, Ken Rebeck
Department of Economics: Faculty Publications
This study describes a new data set and uses it for an exploratory investigation of whether seminars for teachers conducted by the National Council on Economic Education through its International Education Exchange Program (IEEP) had a beneficial effect on the economic understanding of the high school students of these teachers. The data were collected using a non- equivalent control group design that sorted teachers into two groups based on whether or not they participated in an IEEP seminar. Pre- and post-tests of economics were administered to the students of these teachers in Lithuania, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, and Poland. The exploratory results …

Physical Education In The Curriculum : Students' Attitudes And Perceptions Of Physical Education, Marlene Theresa ChaìVez Villegas
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
This case study examines the importance of physical education in the school curriculum. Physical education programs are being eliminated from the core curriculum in school all across the United States. PE classes are now being reduced for academic classes and our students are often not receiving enough physical activity outside of school. As a result of eliminating school PE programs and physical inactivity, our students are missing the qualities brought forth by a quality program. Many children have become overweight and are at risk for obesity. The study reports students' attitudes and perceptions of physical education in one high school …
