Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive
Gardner-Webb University and Cleveland Community College announced a partnership this week that will further ease the transfer process for students who complete certain degrees with coursework at both institutions. Officials for both schools signed agreements to create a seamless degree track for accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, industrial management, and nursing students who begin their studies at Cleveland Community College and finish them in the University’s Degree Completion Program. The agreements, called Pathways to reference the structured paths of study between the two schools, formalize a degree partnership that already exists between GWU and CCC, according to officials.

Modern Sport
The study aimed to investigate the impact of meaningful learning on acquiring certain swimming styles (backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle) among students of the College of Basic Education. The researcher employed the experimental method using the design of two equivalent groups with pre- and post-tests on a sample of students from the Physical Education Department at the College of Basic Education / Al-Mustansiriyah University for the academic year 2012–2013. The sample consisted of 64 students who were homogenized based on certain anthropometric variables relevant to the tests under study. They were then divided into a control group and an experimental group. …

Gender Differences In Student Attitude Toward Privacy In Facebook, Sathasivam Mathiyalakan, George Heilman, Sharon White
Communications of the IIMA
Facebook is the leading social media. However, a user’s failure to configure Facebook’s privacy settings properly may lead to unwanted or harmful information disclosure. In effect, a user could be sharing private information, such as name, address, contact information, gender, birthdate, views and affiliations with everyone. In this study, we present the results of an examination of students’ use of privacy settings in Facebook as well as their attitudes toward the risks associated with usage of both Facebook and the Internet in general. We also look for the existence of gender differences. Potential weaknesses of this study and suggestions for …

The Use Of Case Based Multiple Choice Questions For Assessing Large Group Teaching: Implications On Student's Learning, Christina Donnelly
The Use Of Case Based Multiple Choice Questions For Assessing Large Group Teaching: Implications On Student's Learning, Christina Donnelly
Irish Journal of Academic Practice
The practice of assessments in third level education is extremely important and a rarely disputed part of the university curriculum as a method to demonstrate a student’s learning. However, assessments to test a student’s knowledge and level of understanding are challenging to apply given recent trends which are showing that student numbers are increasing, student demographics are wide ranging and resources are being stretched. As a result of these emerging challenges, lecturers are required to develop a comprehensive assessment to effectively demonstrate student learning, whilst efficiently managing large class sizes. One form of assessment which has been used for efficient …
Does The Pedagogy For The Teaching Of First Year Undergraduate Laboratory Practicals Still Meet The Needs Of The Curriculum?, Ann Hopper
Irish Journal of Academic Practice
This work examines the teaching approach for chemistry laboratory practicals for first year undergraduate students to determine if the underpinning pedagogical strategy meets the requirements for these students for the remainder of their undergraduate programme. This is based on the knowledge, skills, content and learning outcomes for undergraduate chemistry courses. This work aims to enhance the first year experience of chemistry education by facilitating greater student engagement and “deeper” learning of relevant content during practical laboratory experiences by focusing on the learners’ needs. During this research, a survey of undergraduate science students from 2nd, 3rd and 4th years was carried …

Beliefs About Substance Abusing Clients Among Social Work Students, Seidy Jhosselyn Soto, Marry Jean Stuart
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
This study was a quantitative survey and explored beliefs about substance abusing clients among sixty-three social work students. The study focused on the extent to which social work students display bias toward clients with a substance abuse disorder. The study also explored the attitudinal domains of permissiveness, treatment intervention, non-stereotypes, treatment optimism, and non-moralism. The study found that social work students who have taken a substance abuse education class are less like to attribute substance abuse addiction to a weak will in the client. The study recommends that future studies on beliefs about substance abusing clients among social work students …

Services For Parentally Placed Catholic School Students Under The Individuals With Disabilities Education Improvement Act, Julie Cantillon Phd
Dissertations
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which Congress enacted in 1975 with subsequent revisions, states that school districts are to provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to all students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. Public local education agencies (LEAs) including school districts have an obligation to identify, locate, and evaluate private school students suspected of having a disability—the "child find" process. Students enrolled by their parents in private schools are not entitled to a FAPE if they choose for their children to remain in private school after the children have been identified as having a …
