Social Networking Addiction Among Health Sciences Students In Oman, Ken Masters
Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal
Objectives: Addiction to social networking sites (SNSs) is an international issue with numerous methods of measurement. The impact of such addictions among health science students is of particular concern. This study aimed to measure SNS addiction rates among health sciences students at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Muscat, Oman. Methods: In April 2014, an anonymous English-language six-item electronic self-reporting survey based on the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale was administered to a non-random cohort of 141 medical and laboratory science students at SQU. The survey was used to measure usage of three SNSs: Facebook (Facebook Inc., Menlo Park, California, USA), YouTube …

School Psychologists’ Training And Knowledge Of Tourette Syndrome, Leticia Cornejo
Educational Studies Dissertations
A web-based survey was conducted that included 97 practicing school psychologists in California. The results from the survey indicated that the majority (88%) of respondents were knowledgeable about Tourette Syndrome. Many respondents (28%) had never worked with a student with Tourette’s, 20% had at least one case, and 52% indicated that they had worked with more than two cases in their careers as school psychologists. The majority of respondents indicated that their school psychology program did not adequately train them to assess or counsel students with Tourette’s. The majority of participants also did not feel confident to work with students …

Conference papers
The link between spatial visualisation skills and academic and professional achievement in STEM fields is well established. It is also widely documented that men outperform women on tests of spatial ability. This disparity puts women at a relative disadvantage for academic success in STEM disciplines. Our research explores the influence of secondary academic experience on spatial visualisation ability among first year students entering an engineering or science programme. Spatial ability was measured using two standard psychometric instruments for measurement of spatial visualization. Out of eight secondary courses considered, a single course in design and computer graphics emerged as a predictor …

The Social Profiles Of Occupational Therapy Students’ Educational Groups, Tore Bonsaksen, Mari N. Eirum, Mary V. Donohue
The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy
Background: Today’s occupational therapy models emphasize that a person’s choice of, satisfaction with, and performance in occupations are markedly influenced by the context. For students undergoing a group-based study module, the group is an important context factor. Until recently, there has been a lack of instruments available for the assessment of functioning and participation at the group level. This mixed methods pilot study aimed to examine occupational therapy students’ perceptions of their group’s level of functioning and course of development during one study module.
Methods: The students’ perceptions of their group’s functioning were assessed in two ways: by examining their …

An Examination Of Factors That Influence Teacher Adoption Of Bring Your Own Device In The Classroom, Shawn Patrick Lloyd Hirano
An Examination Of Factors That Influence Teacher Adoption Of Bring Your Own Device In The Classroom, Shawn Patrick Lloyd Hirano
School of Public Service Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this research is to examine if and how Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is implemented in secondary public schools by focusing on teacher adoption of BYOD in the classroom. Given the newness of BYOD, there is little research on how school districts have implemented this policy or why and how teachers have adopted the practice in their classroom. Using both Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research investigated several key elements that could influence teacher adoption of BYOD: teacher characteristics, school culture, and professional development. The population for this mixed method study …

Physical Fitness And Its Relationship To The Performance Of Students Of The Department Of Theater And Performing Arts In The Faculty Of Fine Arts, Ali Talal Abdullah
Modern Sport
Physical fitness is considered one of the essential pillars for theatrical performance and acting, as it involves a variety of movements and postures that are not natural or familiar in a person's daily life. These movements are used to express specific states or emotions that the actor wants to convey clearly and understandably. This requires performing a range of movements, which can be difficult, simple, or complex. Additionally, acting and theater rely on dialogue and speech, which may last for extended periods. This demands good respiratory capacity so that the actor can speak clearly and express their intended message effortlessly, …

An Online Survey Of The Healthcare Needs Of Undergraduate Students At An Urban University, Linda Graf
College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations
There is a growing body of evidence that reveals mounting need for radical modification of college health services for young adults in the United States. The health issues for this population, which are exacerbated by inadequate access to healthcare include alcoholism, depression, unintended pregnancy, disordered eating, sexual assault and sexually transmitted infections. Utilizing the College Student Health Survey developed by University of Minnesota’s Boynton Health Service, this study specifically focused on analyzing the health care needs of undergraduate students at a large, urban, university. Access and utilization of healthcare services for this population were also examined. An online survey was …
