Educator Experiences In Conflict Management With Parents Of Students With Disabilities: A Phenomenological Study, Laura Lewis Mosby
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study is to explore and describe the lived experiences of K-12 public school educators regarding their training for and use of conflict management strategies with parents of students with disabilities at the school-building level. The theory guiding this study is Lazarus and Folkman’s theory on cognitive appraisal, as it can be applied to the field of education regarding the emotionality and difficulty experienced by educators and parents of students with disabilities when engaged in conflict. Collaborative leadership provides educators with a framework to engage in conflict management strategies. Moustakas’s transcendental phenomenology research method will …

Chasing The Albino Pygmy Giraffe, Charles H. Haddad
Chasing The Albino Pygmy Giraffe, Charles H. Haddad
School of Communication and Journalism Faculty Publications
It's never a good sign when someone is knocking on the door of your hotel room at seven in the morning. That's especially true if you have been schlepping eight college students across Western China, as I had been for the past week. I now heard in this soft rapping the death knell of my fledgling professorial career. Wrapping a ratty, threadbare pillow around my head, I tried to shut out the insistent rapping. Of course, that didn't work. Bad news has a way of butting in.
So begins my novel “Chasing the Albino Pygmy Giraffe.” It is a laugh-aloud …

Implementing Open Educational Resources In Colleges And Universities: A Literature Review, D. Laverne Hill, Taralynn Hartsell, Jamie L. Workman, Amy Smith
Georgia Library Quarterly
The use of Open Educational Resources (OER) is becoming increasingly widespread in higher education institutions as the ease of use, equitable access, and the cost-free availability makes OER a viable option for classroom materials. Incorporating OER into the curriculum can be both beneficial and challenging for faculty. Because librarians are skilled and efficient in finding adequate resources to supplement learning, they prove to be an asset when striving to implement an OER initiative in the institution. While faculty would be the primary group to introduce many of the OER to students, it takes a collaborative effort between faculty and librarians …

Addressing health disparities through community engagement and interprofessional partnerships is increasingly critical. However, learner-led approaches that integrate medical students, resident physicians, and social work students are not well-studied. We designed a learner-led, interprofessional, public health campaign for a majority Hispanic community, with the goals of building interprofessional leadership skills, engaging learners to address COVID-19 inequities, and disseminating lessons learned. Faculty and students from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Schools of Medicine and Social Work partnered with community leaders to pilot an interprofessional project supported by the American Association of Medical Colleges’ Nurturing Experiences for Tomorrow’s Community Leaders (AAMC …

Improving Safe Skin Behaviors In High School Freshman, Kelsie Sue Scheer
Group: Nebraska Methodist College
OBJECTIVE: Sun exposure is common among teenagers but teenagers also have poor sun protection strategies. Sun exposure during adolescence or teenage years is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Research suggests that adolescence and childhood are optimal periods to provide information regarding skin cancer and implement a primary prevention program. This project investigates whether or not providing education on skin cancer and safe sun behaviors increases knowledge among high school freshman at a rural Midwestern High School.
METHODS: Pretests/posttests were administered to students before education was provided and after education was provided. The pretest/posttest …

Challenges In Implementing Music Education In Primary And Lower Secondary Schools Of General Education In Kosovo, Violeta R. Krasniqi
UBT International Conference
“Certain spiritual aspects can only be illuminated by music" is a well-liked and appropriate quote by Kodály, which always finds its place in every society at any time. The closeness of music to human beings/children should be utilized from the earliest stages of a child's development. Thus, schools have the most suitable opportunity to influence the overall education of a child's personality through music education. However, like other educational subjects, music education has its requirements, strategies, methodologies, formats, materials, etc., which modern teaching must adhere to achieve planned goals and outcomes. As a young state, Kosovo is making significant efforts …

UBT International Conference
Teaching and learning a second language follows a general process for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. Due to students' different learning styles, it is necessary to apply various teaching methods. There is no single teaching method that universally works for everyone; there is no magic wand that guarantees miracles in teaching and learning. Consequently, researchers in education explore diverse pathways to find successful teaching methods. This paper focuses on creative teaching and learning, as well as verbal creativity in teaching English as a second language in Kosovo. The case study centers on peer interviews with students, where students create or …

Pakistan has a high rate of genetic disorders and neonatal mortality concurrent with noted lack of genetic counselors and geneticists. To meet the needs of the patient population, the responsibility of providing clinical genetic services falls on general and specialty physicians. However, their education regarding these essential services is not standardized in medical school curricula nor has it ever been evaluated. The purpose of this work is to describe the self-perceived knowledge, clinical comfort, and perspectives of Pakistani medical students toward their medical genetics' education. A web-based survey was distributed electronically to medical schools around the country. The survey comprised …

The skills to counsel advanced topics in the local church arena should be an essential element of instruction that takes place in colleges that train ministry leaders. In order to effectively transfer these truths to students, a qualitative research project was implemented which utilized thirty-six interviews of alumni in order to assess areas …
