This unit, “La ropa y Los colores” is designed for a Spanish 1 class of non-native speakers. This is the 4th unit in our school year. Students have previously learned how to describe themselves and others, school-related vocabulary, family members, and hobbies vocabulary. This unit will introduce clothing vocabulary and color vocabulary for the first time. This unit will have a lot of repetition to help students internalize the vocabulary and be able to produce sentences both in writing and speaking with confidence. From Bison To Cattle: The Ecology Of The Southern Plains 1500-1750, Jenni Tifft-Ochoa

Bison made their home on the Southern Plains for millennia. However, their migratory patterns began to shift in the 17th and 18th centuries. My research investigated what caused this drastic shift and how it had far reaching effects on the ecology of the Southern Plains. Using archives from two prominent Catholic priests, I began to piece together why the bison left the Southern Plains. Rather than focus on the Europeans as the main players, I instead focused on the Indigenous peoples, the animals, and the land as the centralized actors in this project. A Sociophonetic Study Of /S/ Weakening In Andalusian Spanish, Elisa Taylor

The phenomenon of /s/ weakening is common among many varieties of Spanish, from Latin America to southern Spain (Lipski (2011), Samper Padilla (2011)). This project will focus specifically on coda /s/ weakening in Andalusian Spanish, the social factors that influence it, and the language ideologies surrounding the dialect. Previous research has found that social factors influencing /s/ weakening include social class, gender, and education level (Lipski (2011), Samper Padilla (2011), Holmquist (2008), Terrell (1981), Fontanella de Weinberg (1973)). Studies on /s/ weakening in Andalusian Spanish have mainly focused on the functional compensation for the loss of /s/, but little research …
