The Ideology Of Growth And The Utopia Of Equilibrium, John C. Cunningham
Student Work
This study focuses on the ongoing social processes of theory formation. It is a description of how individuals as members of a concrete social group think about social systems, share their world views within their group, explain their ideas to others, and attempt to produce realities corresponding to these ideas. The study depicts the procress of social change as a sonstruction arising out of interaction between social groups with conflicting visions of past, …

Violence As A Product Of Imposed Order, Butler D. Shaffer
Violence As A Product Of Imposed Order, Butler D. Shaffer
University of Miami Law Review
Many hypotheses concerning the causes of the violence which exists in our society have been presented for discussion by scholars and researchers. In this Article, Professor Shaffer explores another possible explanation for the violence. He suggests that the imposition of structured forms of order by a political-legal system (the "structuring" function) in conflict with the system's role of preventing acts of victimization (the "hygienic" function) produces a frustration of citizens' personal, economic, and social expectations. This frustration as a result may lead to aggression and violence.

A Sociological Study Of Native American Indians In Higher Education, Robert George Lake Jr.
A Sociological Study Of Native American Indians In Higher Education, Robert George Lake Jr.
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
The decision to undertake research on the topic under consideration came from a number of reasons. To begin with, the author is of Native American (Seneca-Cherokee) descent; secondly, he is the Ethnic Affairs Administrator at Humboldt State University responsible for initiating and developing Indian and other ethnic minority programs; and thirdly, he is the Region I Chairman of the California Indian Education Association. This unique cultural-educational background has placed him in a position to recognize that educational leaders in American Indian communities are handicapped by lack of information about higher education practices while colleges and universities know very little about …
