Dealing With Human Issues Throughout Systems Implementation: Guidelines From A Psychodynamic Perspective, A.M. Razavi, R. Ahamad

Research Publications (2011 to 2015)

This study is devoted to study the nature and the effects of human issues throughout information systems (IS) implementation projects. These issues normally transcribed as resistance, i.e. negative reactions that impact the project success. Moreover the lack of acceptance can interpret as another type of negative reactions as well. Both have been considered here as reactions to the imposing changes, that attempt to revert to the previous stable state. This paper provides an adaptation of individuals and groups' identification processes from a psychodynamic view. The result is used to describe underlying dynamics of organizations (whether in individual or groups level) …

Building Organizational Capacity For Enrollment Performance Measurement: A Mixed Methods Investigation, Lynda Ruth Wallace-Hulecki

Management Of Change To Ensure Is Success: A Longitudinal Study, Pauline Ash Ray, Wenli Wang, Jerry Cha-Jan Chang, Geoffrey Hubona

Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology Faculty Research

This paper aims to understand the effect of management of change on the success of information system (IS) implementation. Drawing on change management research and self-determination theory, a research model is developed. Data collected from a longitudinal field survey before, during, and after an enterprise-wide IS implementation are analyzed to test the proposed hypotheses. The results indicate that management of change can be used to increase readiness for change and end-user computing satisfaction during and after the implementation. Readiness for change positively impacts satisfaction during an implementation but not after. Contrary to the literature, No significant relationship exists between resistance …

The researcher interviewed principals, teachers, and support staff regarding leadership attributes, skills and behaviors perceived as critical, professional development opportunities needed for, and the new roles for teachers and support staff in the implementation of the RtI² model at their particular site. The interviews revealed that the most critical behavior was a leader's knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Five additional leadership behaviors were identified to a lesser degree. Four of these behaviors were identified as "second-order" …

Identity As The Foundation For Change In School Systems, Amy E. Scalia

Theses and Dissertations

Citizens, politicians, scholars, and educators agree that the nation's educational system is failing to serve our youth. Despite energy, resources, research, and readiness, schools remain unchanged and ineffective. This study builds on existing research in the corporate landscape about the role identity plays in an organization's capability to change. The school system has not made a distinct statement about what it stands for. The researcher hypothesized that a clear identity will better prepare the educational system and schools within it to implement change effectively. The study explored the question, "Does a clear identity better equip a school to implement change?" …

Organizational Change Effectiveness A Case Study In Customer-Alignment Structures For Employee Engagement And Service Delivery, Emily C. Logan Jan 2011

Organizational Change Effectiveness A Case Study In Customer-Alignment Structures For Employee Engagement And Service Delivery, Emily C. Logan

Theses and Dissertations

Although organizational changes are common in business, few of these changes are decided based upon clearly defined organizational goals (Hilmer & Donaldson, 1996). Making structural changes may not be the best approach to improve performance, given that organizational changes are disruptive to the organization (Day, Lawson, & Leslie, 2003). Instead of following prevalent management fads, organizational leaders need to evaluate carefully any potential changes for their situation and objectives before embarking on a disruptive change. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of an organizational change in which the defined goals were to create more empowered employees …

A Case Study Of User Adoption Of Enterprise Technology At Xyz Media Company, Holli A. Hudson

Theses and Dissertations

As globalization rises, so does the need for organizations to connect disparate processes and integrate information technology systems together. These activities are needed to unite all areas of a business and speak the same organizational language across geographic locations. As a result, the need for enterprise technology is on the rise. However, enterprise technology implementations are usually massive, complex, and expensive (up to $500 million for large multinational companies). Further, only 10% to 33% of these projects succeed. While 35% are cancelled, the remaining exceed their budgets by 178% and schedules by 230%, on average (Martin & Huq, 2007). Just …

Simple Rules Leaders Use To Guide Their Organizations During Times Of Rapid Change, Kristine Quade Jan 2011

Simple Rules Leaders Use To Guide Their Organizations During Times Of Rapid Change, Kristine Quade

Few leaders would refer to their organization as a complex adaptive system (CAS)--one that is irreversible and unpredictable. They might say their organization contains diverse elements and is constantly learning--the other two aspects of a CAS. Few top leaders rarely are able to identify the self-organizing patterns as they emerge. This study involved 58 senior leaders in five 5 market sectors who were guiding their organizations during times of rapid change. Using a Delphi method, the intent was to identify what simple rules the leaders used to shape the speed, direction and outcomes of self-organizing patterns. A simple rule expands …

Of three main orientations to pricing in industrial markets cost-based, competition-based and customer value-based most marketing and pricing scholars consider the latter superior but few firms use it. The literature is silent about how organizational and behavioral characteristics of industrial firms may affect pricing orientation and, more specifically, value-based pricing. We identified five organizational characteristics common to firms implementing value-based pricing: ability to effect deep transformational change, presence of a champion, skill in diffusing organizational capabilities, …

Strategic Recovery Requires Leadership, Christine G. Springer

Public Policy and Leadership Faculty Research

As public managers work toward a successful recovery post-midyear elections, we all must deal with system-wide problems arising from the recession. This requires first recognizing that the crisis continues and must be addressed not just by increasing revenue but by fixing system-wide structural and operational issues.

To do so involves developing the skills required in a recovery, identifying the causes of the crisis so that future crises can be better managed and concentrating on the key areas of leadership expertise needed to effectively communicate and deliver better outcomes.

Criss Library Faculty Proceedings & Presentations

Criss Library conducted the ClimateQUAL survey during the 2009 fall semester. The library had been experiencing numerous changes due to a three year library renovation, several personnel resignations and library reorganizations. There was an over-riding perception of mistrust, fear and uncertainty that needed to be addressed. Our first step in addressing the negative perceptions was to run the ClimateQUAL survey to gather statistics for a better understanding of staff perceptions. Our next step was to report on the ClimateQUAL data to the library staff and start discussions on goals and solutions for addressing the organization climate. The third step was …

To find ways, personnel's participation in planning was encouraged to increase openness to change as OSU Extension created and implemented its new Strategic Plan. Findings indicate that personnel from all levels of the organization who participated in the planning process were more receptive and less pessimistic about the plan and more motivated to make the plan a success. These findings suggest participation may help personnel cope with current changes as well as build capacity …

Looking At Extension As A Learning Organization, Ellen Rowe

Journal of Extension

This article shares an understanding of how Extension at a major university serves as a Learning Organization and its capacity to address change. The study examined how to assess the capacity of staff members to promote organizational learning. The researcher administered a 43-item survey instrument, the Dimension of the Learning Organization Questionnaire (DLOQ), designed by Watkins and Marsick (1997) to Extension employees. As a strategic planning tool, the survey identifies organizational learning strengths and challenges at the individual, team, and organizational levels.
