The Role And The Experiences Of The Sports Team Captain, Michelle Nelson

The purpose of this study is to outline the role and the experiences of the sports team captain, with particular emphasis on the responsibilities, the influencing factors and the power of the captain. The Development Of An Instrument To Measure The Theoretical Parameters Of Charisma Within Organizations, Daniel K. Hicks
The Development Of An Instrument To Measure The Theoretical Parameters Of Charisma Within Organizations, Daniel K. Hicks
Theses and Dissertations
This study set out to identify the parameters in the existing leadership theories that lead to the attribution of charisma in organizational leaders. Once these parameters were identified, the goal was to develop and validate the means to measure the parameters. Organizational scientists began to wrestle with the operation of charismatic authority within organizations in 1961. A review of the literature uncovered eight theories that describe the operation of charisma with organizations. From these eight theories, 37 distinct behaviors or qualities were extracted. Each of these was theorized to lead to the attribution of charisma either singly or in combination …
Leadership Self-Efficacy: Measuring The Effects Of Leadership Training At Squadron Officer School, Gilbert W. Jennings
Leadership Self-Efficacy: Measuring The Effects Of Leadership Training At Squadron Officer School, Gilbert W. Jennings
Theses and Dissertations
This study used a measure of change in perceived self-efficacy as a method for evaluating the effectiveness of the leadership training conducted at the Air Force's Squadron Officer School (SOS), Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. A self-assessment survey was developed to measure the change in perceived self- efficacy related to leadership behaviors of the students when they compare themselves to their idea of an ideal leader/manager. Dr. Gary A Yukl's (1989) taxonomy of leadership skills was used as the leadership model in the development of the survey instrument. A statistical analysis was done to determine which of Yukl's skills showed …

A Critical Analysis Of Mandated Assessment And Program Review As Applied To The Retail Business Management Curriculum At Westchester Community College., Letitia C. Fisher
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Excellence and quality are subjects of much debate in higher education. Over eighty percent of all colleges and universities conduct regular evaluations of their programs to assess their quality, relevance and cost effectiveness. The visibility of program review and educational assessment is manifested in the intensity of state policy activity with some 700 state statutes affecting some aspect of the teaching progression being enacted between 1984 and 1986. Since 1985 calls for explicit assessment of the results of higher education have become increasing; insistent from state authorities.

Saint Vincent De Paul: A Creative Reconciler, Margaret John Kelly D.C.
Saint Vincent De Paul: A Creative Reconciler, Margaret John Kelly D.C.
Vincentian Studies
Vatican II emphasized the need for Catholics and Catholic religious communities to focus on their beginnings (their primitive spirit). Margaret John Kelly uses this imperative to show how the roots of “the modern charities movement” are found in the work and leadership of Vincent de Paul. She explains why it is important to remember Vincent. The many parallels between his time and Church and our own are discussed, as is his relevance. Kelly calls him “a creative reconciler” because he was able to harness competing interests and make them work together in concrete ways for the service of the poor. …
Principal Vision, Environmental Robustness, And Teacher Sense Of Autonomy In High Schools, Daniel Nordwall Johnson
Principal Vision, Environmental Robustness, And Teacher Sense Of Autonomy In High Schools, Daniel Nordwall Johnson
Dissertations and Theses
This study focused on leadership and its correlates. Theory and research both point to the centrality of the principal's leadership role in school effectiveness. Yet, few studies of school leadership actually examine relationships among leadership variables. This study examined, from the perspective of high school teachers, three leadership correlates: principal vision, environmental robustness and teacher autonomy. Principal vision was conceptualized as the capacity of the principal to see the difference between what is and what might be, thus enabling others to accept and act on the possibilities of what might be. Environmental robustness was defined as the perceived dramatic content …

G90-988 A Process For Building Coalitions, Georgia L. Stevens
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
What should you consider in building coalitions? This NebGuide offers guidelines.
What is a Coalition?
1. A coalition is a group of organizations and individuals working together for a common purpose. There are two types of coalitions:
2. "One issue" or event coalitions only have to agree on one particular issue. The coalition is dissolved when the issue has been solved or the event has been coordinated.
"Multi issues" coalitions have related issues, such as nutrition and health, child care needs, elderly health care, or the environment. This more permanent type of coalition recognizes the value of mobilizing together for …

Cc90-352 Team Building: Developing A Productive Team, Arnold J. Bateman
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Team building is an effort in which a team studies its own process of working together and acts to create a climate that encourages and values the contributions of team members. Their energies are directed toward problem solving, task effectiveness, and maximizing the use of all members' resources to achieve the team's purpose. Sound team building recognizes that it is not possible to fully separate one's performance from those of others.

The Effect Of Initial Leader-Group Interaction And The Moderating Influence Of Leadership Style On Group Decision-Making, Brian J. Ruggeberg
Psychology Theses & Dissertations
A total of 120 female undergraduates from Old Dominion University participated in an experiment designed to determine the effect of initial leader-group interaction on group decision-making. This leader-group interaction was manipulated by means of a structured group briefing presented by the leader. Leadership style was also manipulated to determine if it has a moderating influence on initial leader-group interaction. The "Change of Work Procedure" role-playing exercise (Maier, 1952) was used as the decision-making task. A female confederate served as the group leader, and the participants were divided into 40, three member groups. Measures of decision quality, decision acceptance, and decision-making …
