How Graduate Schools Percieve A Leadership Major, Rachael Enoch Jan 1994

How Graduate Schools Percieve A Leadership Major, Rachael Enoch

Honors Theses

We wanted our project to make a difference in two areas. First we hoped that our project would help the Jepson School and its students understand more about leadership in the "real world", about how leadership and leadership studies are perceived, and about potential educational and career options for leadership studies majors. We wanted to help answer the question that everyone wants to know: What a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership Studies means to graduate schools and employers? Second, we wanted our project to advance the field of leadership education and leadership studies. We thought that the data we collected …

Teaching Leadership For A Diverse Society, Brooke Douglas Taylor Jan 1994

Teaching Leadership For A Diverse Society, Brooke Douglas Taylor

Honors Theses

According to Workforce 2000, a survey report on corporate responses to demographic and labor force trends, traditional minorities (defined as people of color, immigrants, and women) will compose up to 80 percent of the United States corporate workforce by the year 2000. This displays a significant change from earlier years, where the workforce was dominated by white American males. Because of this changing ethnic and racial mix of employees, companies are becoming more concerned with ethnic diversity and the changing needs of both individuals and companies. Though these companies are concerned, not much has been done to address the growing …

Flying Tigers' 22nd Bomb Squadron, 1942-1945: An Analysis Of Management And Leadership Practices, Jack Lund Schofield

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Many argue that the American educational system is under siege. Students bring with them to school an array of social problems never before seen in this country. Illegal drugs, raging violence, brutal crime, abject poverty, and hopeless desolation pervade our children's lives. Loaded firearms, deadly weapons, and lethal substances are confiscated daily in urban, suburban, and rural schools. Administrators are shot, teachers are mugged, students are stabbed. Schools are in crisis; the war rages. How do school administrators cope?;This investigation concerns the interrelationships, definitions, and applications of several phenomena: war, education, administration, leadership, and power. Through the experiences of the …

We tested if the subjects responded differently to the attribution of charisma based on gender or whether or not they had someone in mind as they completed the instrument. Cronbach's Alpha was used to measure the validity of the 14 factors land to compare them to previous findings. All 14 factors were validated, some …

A Test Of Bass's Model Of Transformational Leadership Among Managers In The Dominican Republic, Nancy Urbaez Echavarria

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

This study tested the generalizability of Bass's theory of transformational leadership to employees of a company in the Dominican Republic. A Spanish translation of Bass's Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) was used to assess the leadership styles. The factor structure for Dominican workers was not identical to the structure observed in United States samples. Nevertheless, the pattern of results followed rather closely the pattern observed in United States samples. Consistent with research conducted in the U.S., subordinates who had transformational leaders reported more satisfaction and effectiveness and greater effort and organizational innovativeness than subordinates who had transactional or laissez faire leaders. …

Correlation and regression analyses indicated that transformational leadership often is associated with improved levels of important work outcomes. Women In Leadership National Conference 1992: Women, Communication And Power, Margaret Butterworth (Ed.)

Research outputs pre 2011

Victorian feminist lawyer and social activist, Dr. Jocelynne Scutt, confronted the issue of women and power by drawing upon a powerful reading of stories from women. These stories, drawn from ordinary and not so ordinary women, showed the barriers that face women as they attempt to deal with a daily reality infused with masculine power, violence, fright, shame, and self-realization. She spoke poignantly of a world that is all to familiar to women; women whose capacities have been curbed sharply by a common theme in their lives: domination and coercion...
