Are The Leadership Behaviors Of K–12 Leaders In Mid-Western Urban School Districts Influenced By Their Beliefs And Attitudes Regarding Spirituality?, Ericka M. Taylor

Dissertations

Working in a stressful and chaotic environment can be difficult for building principals in urban school districts (DeNisco, 2013; Stokley, 2002; Thompson, 2004). Presumably, the job is only expected to get more arduous with the increasing demands to improve student achievement (Allison, 2012; Kimball & Sirotnik, 2000; Queen & Schumacher, 2006). What is quite apparent today is that the role and responsibilities of the principal have changed dramatically over the past twenty years (Carlson, 2012; Hill-Yeverton, 2003) shifting from a factory model of management of learning to one in which teachers and principals have to create more student-centered and project-based …

A Proposal For Leadership Transition In Ministry: A Proactive Approach, Fred Hill Apr 2017

A Proposal For Leadership Transition In Ministry: A Proactive Approach, Fred Hill

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The development of leaders for future ministry and equipping them to lead and mentor the next generation of leaders effectively must be an absolute necessity for continued church success. Leaders should endeavor to actively discern gifts and talents early in potential leaders. Once recognized, it is the leader’s responsibility to develop and prepare others for leadership transitions. Previous research has shown that churches have a leadership vacuum because of the lack of leadership development and transition utilizing a proactive approach. There is a trust factor created between the present and future leadership secondary to proper training and unwillingness to relinquish …

Supervisor And Subordinate Perceptions Of Leader-Member Exchange: Examining Idiosyncratic Deals And Work-Family Experiences In A Moderated Mediation Model, Michael L. Litano Apr 2017

Supervisor And Subordinate Perceptions Of Leader-Member Exchange: Examining Idiosyncratic Deals And Work-Family Experiences In A Moderated Mediation Model, Michael L. Litano

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

The extant literature recognizes that subordinates in high-quality leader-member exchange (LMX) relationships experience the most favorable outcomes (Dulebohn, Bommer, Liden, Brouer, & Ferris, 2012). In exchange for their unwavering commitment and superior job performance, high LMX subordinates benefit from greater access to valuable resources (e.g., communication, support, and negotiating latitude; Gerstner & Day, 1997), which can then be used to combat job demands and facilitate accomplishment of the subordinates’ salient goals (Agarwal, Datta, Blake-Beard, & Bhargava, 2012; Hobfoll, 2001). Meta-analytic evidence suggests that LMX also has critical implications for work-family outcomes (Litano, Major, Streets, Landers, & Bass, 2016), however, the …

This is the next installment in a series of articles started in the first issues of the JMI exploring these very challenging issues (Coughlan & Bernstein, 2015). In this installment the authors will specifically address issues surrounding leadership, integrated governance model, standardization, continuous improvement, business continuity, and managing through hard target metrics. This article assumes that the …

Aurora UW Family Medicine Faculty – Milwaukee

Introduction/Background

Success in today’s complex and evolving health care settings requires that leaders be able to guide problem finding and solving teams. Lack of leadership skills – particularly in the areas of systems-based practice, professionalism, and communication – has been linked to patient harm. The need for leadership training is recognized across health care as programs are offered through graduate medical education (GME) offices and residency programs, hospitals, and health care systems. GME sponsored leadership programs may cross medical specialties but typically they do not professions. In contrast, leadership programs at the hospital/system level are often interprofessional in nature (e.g., …

Transformative Leadership For True Workplace Collaboration: Strengthening Workplace Culture Through Attention To Workplace Bullying Affronts, Laura Cox Dzurec, Monica Kennison

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Session presented on Saturday, March 18, 2017:

Transformative leadership is governance devoted to change in individuals and in social systems. It emphasizes actions aimed simultaneously toward organizational effectiveness and moral commitment to organizational stakeholders. Because transformational leadership is intended to incorporate concurrent consideration of both ethics and effectiveness, its influence in governance can be considered robust and appropriate, both ethically and technically - at least in theory. The effectiveness of transformative leadership is significantly hindered, however, by acts of workplace bullying. Even in settings in which leadership is transformative, workplace bullying is common and disruptive. Seldom are bullying's constitutive acts …

Creating Healthy Work Environments In Critical Care Nursing, Esteen Ladson Barnes, Anthony Basile, Camille Scarciotta, Dorothy Jean Graham Hannah

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Session presented on Saturday, March 18, 2017:

Having unhealthy working conditions in healthcare results inthe erosion of the quality, efficiency and safety of patient care delivery and attrition from the profession of nursing. As payors of care for healthcare systems move towards reimbursement models where the value of care is more significant than the quantity of care delivered, evidence based interventions that address unhealthy work environments will become less uncertain and more of an inevitability to meet the care delivery demands in today's society. Current trends in healthcare and the expectation of the public has made the expectations of healthcare …

Responsible Leadership: A Behavioural Perspective, Joseph Flocy Mar 2017

Responsible Leadership: A Behavioural Perspective, Joseph Flocy

Dissertations and Theses Collection

A review of the existing theories on various leadership styles clearly point to the lack of two critical aspects - 'responsibility' and 'accountability' in their characterisation. It is imperative in this era to focus on those breed of leaders who can respond collectively with credible actions for their businesses while accepting the full responsibility of their actions. This has given rise to `Responsible Leadership (RL)' as a new leadership construct for leaders in the twenty first century. Still in its infant stages of discussion, literature on RL lack a clear definition and the kind of behaviours that are manifested in …
