The Influence Of Leadership Development On Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Moderated By Leader-Member Exchange, Christopher Houston

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This research study addressed the problem of lacking leadership development in the higher education industry and the reduction of organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Increasing demands on higher education resulted in a need for improved leadership acumen across the industry, but inefficient and lacking development persists. This study evaluated a regional higher education institution of higher education in the Southwest to better understand how specific leadership development opportunities relate to organizational behavior. The research utilized the 24-item OCB survey and the LMX-7 survey to capture participant responses in combination with different leadership development participation responses. The findings indicated that while leadership …

We Are Not There Yet! Why The Journey For Experience Excellence Must Persist, Jason A. Wolf Nov 2025

We Are Not There Yet! Why The Journey For Experience Excellence Must Persist, Jason A. Wolf

Patient Experience Journal

I am concerned, that many in healthcare think they have gotten to a “THERE” in experience excellence. That the survey scores they received are good enough, that the outcomes they are achieving reflect what they sought to accomplish. And with this in the face of today’s tumultuous healthcare landscape, decisions are being made to sustain efforts at best and in more cases now to reduce investment with the belief that things are ok. Now is NOT the time to cut short our efforts for experience excellence, or to believe there is a “there” to which we have arrived. It must …

Leadership Approaches And Behaviors That Positively Impact Collective Teacher Efficacy In Refugee Education, Anne Marie Chow

Education Dissertations

Collective teacher efficacy (CTE) has been shown to positively influence student learning, yet research on the role of leadership in cultivating CTE is still developing, even in mainstream schools. Even less is known about how leadership supports CTE in refugee-serving schools, where the challenges of displacement and interrupted education create additional complexity. This qualitative case study explored how leadership behaviors supported the development of CTE in Blue School, an international educational organization serving refugee youth. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers and leaders and through organizational documents. Inductive analysis revealed seven themes: shared purpose, trust and well-being, collaboration, …

The Relationship Between Perceived And Actual Knowledge Of Multi-Tiered Systems Of Support/Response To Intervention (Mtss/Rti) In Middle School Principals In Florida, Susan L. Sanger-Miller

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Principals play a crucial role in implementing MTSS/RtI (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support/Response to Intervention), yet little is known about their understanding of the RtI component. This quantitative survey examined Florida middle school principals’ actual and perceived knowledge of MTSS/RtI, as well as how training and demographic factors—such as special education certification, education level, Title I status, administrative experience during rollout years (2006–2010), district training hours, and college coursework—relate to that knowledge. Data from 54 principals were collected through perception scales, training background, and knowledge-based questions. Results showed principals rated their perceived knowledge higher than their actual knowledge, with a moderate …

Do Sports Develop Leadership? The Impact Of College Varsity Sports On Leadership Capacity And Self-Efficacy, Benjamin Correia-Harker, Lindsey M. Clark, Jacob J. Capin

College of Education Faculty Research and Publications

Introduction: Effective leadership in sports is associated with better team functioning, physical and psychosocial wellbeing, and reduced incidence of severe injuries. In spite of widespread anecdotal support, few studies have empirically evaluated leadership development in athletes. The purpose of this study was to investigate socially responsible leadership capacity and self-efficacy in college varsity athletes and determine the impact of competitive sports participation on leadership capacity and self-efficacy. We hypothesized that college varsity athletes would (1) exhibit greater leadership capacity and self-efficacy than nonathletes and (2) demonstrate greater growth in leadership capacity and self-efficacy than nonathletes.

Methods: The Multi-Institutional Study of …

Sharing Leadership In The Context Of Socioeconomic Diversity: Combining Shared Leadership And Socioeconomic Diversity For The Greater Good, Rebekah Dibble, Carlos S. Baradello Nov 2025

Sharing Leadership In The Context Of Socioeconomic Diversity: Combining Shared Leadership And Socioeconomic Diversity For The Greater Good, Rebekah Dibble, Carlos S. Baradello

American Business Review

Shared leadership involves a collective effort where multiple identities, perspectives, skills, and experiences are incorporated into relational and decision-making processes. As such, we argue that diversity is a critical consideration in the presence of shared leadership. Specifically, we argue that socioeconomic diversity is an important consideration when engaging in collective forms of leadership; nevertheless, organizational research has yet to adequately understand shared leadership in this context. We identify this as a critical gap and draw upon qualitative data in our study of a large non-profit organization in Latin America to extend and develop theory on shared leadership in the context …

The Heart Of Policing: Exploring The Essence Of The Phenomenon Between Organizational Culture And Police Officer Job Satisfaction, Charles C. Palmer

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological qualitative study was to explore the essence of the phenomenon between organizational culture and police officer job satisfaction among rural law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma. Retaining police officers has become an increasingly challenging task for law enforcement organizations across the United States, as high turnover, costly recruitment, and voluntary resignations continue to strain departments. While previous research has primarily examined demographic and occupational variables influencing satisfaction, limited attention has been given to how organizational culture affects the lived experiences of U.S. police officers. Guided by Edgar Schein’s organizational culture theory, this study examined how …

Developing A Ministry Model That Reengages The Members Of Mount Zion Into Fulfilling God’S Purpose, Desmond Wayde Wallace

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Making a meaningful difference within a ministry that requires intervention demands not only strategic planning and teamwork but also leadership that is unwavering in its commitment to fulfilling God’s purpose through service. The church under review has faced significant shifts within its community beginning in the late 1990s and extending into the early 2000s. Unfortunately, these changes did not lead to the anticipated growth and development; instead, they triggered a noticeable decline within both the ministry and the surrounding area. This decline has had a cascading effect, negatively impacting the community and further eroding the church’s vitality, resulting in decreased …

What’S In It For Us? Tell A Colleague, Christopher J. Smiley Oct 2025

What’S In It For Us? Tell A Colleague, Christopher J. Smiley

AADEJ - The Communicator

AADEJ President Dr. Chris Smiley advocates for a reframing of volunteer organizations' focus from "What’s in it for me?" to "What’s in it for us?" to ensure viability. This change is necessary given the declining membership trends in organized dentistry, with the ADA’s market share approaching 50%. The AADEJ, operating with limited resources, concentrates on fundamental, mission-based services that benefit the collective community of dental editors and journalists. These core services include focused continuing education necessary to earn the Certified Dental Editor credential and guidance on ethical issues, such as editor autonomy and the emerging presence of AI. By focusing …

Tangology Simulation: An Experiential Simulation To Understand Leadership And Followership, Martina Gallagher, Linda Sheen, Darlene Acorda, Kelli Galle

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Leadership is emphasized in many healthcare disciplines, especially nursing1. However, learning about leadership typically occurs in the context of readings and discussions, which do not provide students with the visceral experiences needed to critically reflect on what is required of them to lead effectively2. Furthermore, there is limited discussion about followership, or what is required of a good follower to collaborate effectively within a healthcare team3.

Purpose: The purpose of the Tangology Simulation is to provide students with an experiential activity that emulates the roles of leadership and followership in a non-threatening environment. …

Identification Of Leadership And Managerial Roles Used By School Superintendents To Manage Rural School Districts, Bruce Allen Gillham Sep 2025

Identification Of Leadership And Managerial Roles Used By School Superintendents To Manage Rural School Districts, Bruce Allen Gillham

Student Theses and Dissertations

The role of rural superintendents is multifaceted, often requiring a balance of strategic leadership, operational management, and community involvement within school systems that face resource limitations and geographic challenges. However, existing job descriptions for rural superintendents frequently do not reflect the realities of their daily tasks, resulting in misunderstandings and misalignments between governing bodies and the superintendents. This study aims to enhance the understanding of rural superintendents' roles by examining the experiences of four superintendents from southeastern Oklahoma. Drawing on Mintzberg's managerial role framework and an interpretive phenomenological approach, this research highlights the importance of the researcher's self-reflection and the …

Student Leadership Roles In A Large-Scale Interprofessional Mock Paging Simulation, Rebeka B. Watson Campbell, Sidra Qureshi, Amy Gonzalez, Shatoi T. King

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

A large-scale Mock Paging Activity was developed to address the interprofessional education collaboration (IPEC) core competencies (IEC, 2016; IEC, 2023) within the senior classes of a large academic health science center’s School of Medicine (SOM) and School of Nursing (SON) and implemented in the final semester of each school’s curriculum. This low-risk simulation demonstrated a statistically significant (two sample t-test, p value < 0.001) increase in interprofessional communication, collaboration, roles and responsibilities, patient centered management, and conflict management for students in both schools as measured by the Interprofessional Collaborative Competency Attainment Scale (ICCAS) (Kruger et al., 2023; Schmitz et al., 2017).

An unanticipated, yet important aspect of this large-scale activity was the inclusion of student “Champions” to represent the approximately 350 students who participate yearly. Select students from each school (~10-20) volunteered to serve as leaders and representatives of …
