History, Egyptology, And The Bible: An Interdisciplinary Case Study From A Biblical Foundation, Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D.
History, Egyptology, And The Bible: An Interdisciplinary Case Study From A Biblical Foundation, Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D.
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
This is a case study that follows the principles developed in the first conference paper presented in the Biblical Foundations for Faith and Learning Conference (Cancun, 2011) and specifically applies these principles to a problem in the narrow field of History, Egyptology, and the Bible. Due to political and ideological reasons the field of Egyptology has been largely isolated from biblical studies and the history of Canaan and Israel. In recent years, minimalist biblical scholars have challenged the long-held consensus that the peoples, places, and polities of Canaan and Israel existed in the second millennium. The biblical references to these …

A Bid For Brotherhood: The Civil War And The Emergence Of The Lexington Triad, Jonathan G. Danchik
The Gettysburg Compiler: On the Front Lines of History
There is little controversy in claiming that the Civil War casts a long shadow. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a reenactor, or even someone who doesn’t study history, it’s hard to completely get away from it. Shifts in political discourse and race relations are the most commonly discussed results of the conflict, but the war also brought about a considerable change in dominant moral philosophies that led to the establishment of several organizations, which continue to enjoy prominence to this day at different institutions of higher learning across the United States.

The Secrets Of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel #3: The Sorceress, Lisa Packard
Children's Book and Media Review
osh and Sophie are distraught. They don't know what has happened to their friend Scatty, but Nicholas assures them she is fine. They travel to England in search of the ancient (and insane) Gilgamesh the King to teach them Water Magic. Despite the king’s mental instability, the twins and Flamel have no other choice than to seek help from the king. Saint-Germain finds them help in England from Palamedes, a knight from the round table, and none other than William Shakespeare. However, Dr. Dee finds them with an Elder and an Archnon, a powerful being before the time of the …

Children's Book and Media Review
Josh and Sophie Newman are now in Paris with Scatty and Nicholas. The more Nicholas uses his magic, the faster he ages. If they don't get the Book back, Nicholas will die in a few weeks. Not only are they being chased by Dr. John Dee, but also the immortal Niccolo Machiavelli—both very dangerous men with Dark Elders on their side. This unique bunch of people find shelter and food from a former student of Nicholas. The Comte de Saint-Germain and his wife Joan of Arc. Josh still doesn't trust Nicholas, but he and Sophie have nowhere to go. Sophie …

The Secrets Of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel #1: The Alchemyst, Lisa Packard
Children's Book and Media Review

One day at the bookstore Josh smells rotten eggs and mint, only to find out that it's the smell of distinct magic. Dr. John Dee, smelling of rotten eggs, has come looking for a book written by Abraham the Mage. And it turns out that Nick Flemming, Josh’s boss, smells like mint. The two battle and Dee steals the book, but Nick saves two very important pages …

Psychology, Counseling Psychology, And Professional Counseling: Shared Roots, Challenges, And Opportunities, Peggy Brady‐Amoon, Kathleen Keefe-Cooperman
Faculty of Counseling & Development Publications
Psychology, counseling psychology, and professional counseling are at a crossroad. The growing movement to establish professional counseling as a distinct profession, based on an increasingly narrow definition of professional identity, is particularly relevant to counseling psychologists and professional counselors and has implications for the broader field of psychology. A brief systematic historical analysis of these professional specialties in the U.S. provides the context to examine current challenges, including proposed restriction of master’s level training, licensure or other authorization to practice, and employment to graduates of programs accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). …

The Technocratic Politics Of The Common Core State Standards In History, Kate Duguid
The Technocratic Politics Of The Common Core State Standards In History, Kate Duguid
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
This paper shows that the explicit aims of the American educational standards for public schools, the Common Core State Standards to teach history to create “college and career ready” students, marks a shift from preparing students for political participation to preparing them for market participation. I trace the intellectual and pedagogical origins of the Common Core’s pretense of technocratic apolitical values back through the previous two major American curricular reform efforts. In the first section I discuss the origins and development of the National History Standards and show how Cold War anxiety prompted a shift in evaluating students as potential …
