Publications and Research
For many, the era of the Civil Rights Movement belongs to the past, a time vaguely associated with hippies and protesters. However, in the last few months, we have seen both new and old grievances surfacing, whether regarding immigrants, women, ethnic minorities, or members of the LGBTQ group.
As the Spanish philosopher and Harvard professor Jorge Santayana once said, “Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.” Therefore, it’s important to look at past struggles and ask ourselves whether there’s anything we can learn from them.

When discussing the pathophysiology of ulnar neuropathy, Geoffrey Vaughan Osborne described a fibrous band that can be responsible for the symptoms seen in this disorder. In this paper, we take a glimpse at the life of Osborne and review the anatomy and surgical significance of Osborne's ligament. This band of tissue connects the two heads of the flexor carpi ulnaris and thus forms the roof of the cubital tunnel. To our knowledge, no prior publication has reviewed the history of this ligament, and very few authors have studied its anatomy in any detail. Therefore, the aim of the present paper …

Lights On The Nile, Abigail Packard
Children's Book and Media Review
Kepi had no intention of journeying up the Nile to the capital city to speak directly with Pharaoh Khufu. She was content to stay at home and help her crippled father begin his baking business. But when some boys steal Babu, the baby baboon that Kepi saved, Kepi has to journey up the Nile to save him once more. Along the way Kepi herself is kidnapped, faces many dangers, meets new friends in the capital city, and eventually finds herself face to face with Pharaoh Khufu—the pharaoh who commissioned the pyramid that Kepi’s father was injured while building. Kepi fails …

"Yo Creo Que Terminé Todas Mis Guerras": Friendship And Politics Between Jews And Non-Jews In Jeanine Meerapfel's El Amigo Alemán, Stephanie Pridgeon
All Faculty Scholarship
This article analyzes Jeanine Meerapfel's 2012 film El amigo alemán (coproduced in Germany and Argentina) and focuses on the tensions between friendship, religion, and politics in the protagonists' forty-year friendship. Using Carl Schmitt's categories of friendship and enmity vis-à-vis politics, we see that friendship facilitates political identities yet, paradoxically, political identities can ultimately impede friendship. This study focuses on Meerapfel's film's representation of post-World War II Argentina, the 1968 student movements in Europe, and (post-)dictatorial Argentina as key moments in twentieth-century politics in which the film's characters must grapple with their own identities and political participation. These processes are encumbered …
