Yilgarn: Good Country For Hardy People: The Landscape And People Of The Yilgarn Shire, Western Australia, Lyall Hunt (Ed.)
Research outputs pre 2011
This study of the environment and people of the Yilgarn region of Western Australia grew from a decision of the Shire of Yilgarn to commemorate the centenary of the discovery of commercial deposits of gold in the district in 1887-1888. The idea stemmed from the vision of Mr Romolo Patroni who saw the need to record the experiences of Yilgarn pioneers. He convinced the shire council under Cr Kenneth Beaton, president, 1972-1982, to publish a history of the district. The plan was fostered by Cr John Panizza, who became shire president in 1982 and brought to fruition by Cr Patroni …

What About Las Vegas?, Annise Bywaters-Prewitt
Whittier Scholars Program
This project is an informative piece regarding Las Vegas as a hometown rather than spectacle. In doing this project research was gathered from various census books and Las Vegas Perspective. This project is divided into three sections, the first being an evaluation of the Senior Project Documentary in which the scholar reflects on obstacles in the making of her final project and her perspective of video editing, choosing shots, and filming. The second part is another folder which includes notes and thesis for documentary, script notes, drafts and research. The third part is a narration script for the audio portion …

Seventeenth-Century New England And New France In Comparative Perspective: Notre Dame Des Anges---A Case Study, Mary Ann La Fleur
Seventeenth-Century New England And New France In Comparative Perspective: Notre Dame Des Anges---A Case Study, Mary Ann La Fleur
Doctoral Dissertations
This work is a comparison of New England and New France in northeast North America in the seventeenth century. The study of New England relies on secondary works while the study of New France uses primary material. The seigneurie of Notre Dame des Anges, located north of Quebec City, was used as the basis of this study. The questions asked in this study are: Was culture or the environment the most significant factor in the establishing of colonies in the New World? Who were the people who came from England and France? What was the character of those who stayed …

Enok Mortensen As Archivist, Thorvald Hansen
Enok Mortensen As Archivist, Thorvald Hansen
The Bridge
One cannot say with any degree of finality why Enok Mortensen became the historian and archivist of the Danish, later the American Evangelical Lutheran Church. This much, however, is obvious--he was interested in it. Only a genuine interest could have caused him to work diligently at it for a long period of time and to write the history of the church with which he had become intimately familiar. The records do not indicate that he received any monetary reward for his efforts, nor that he sought any. He hoped that others would share his interest and do whatever was in …
Constructing A Constitution: 'Orginal Intention' In The Slave Cases, James Boyd White
Constructing A Constitution: 'Orginal Intention' In The Slave Cases, James Boyd White
Other Publications
The question how our Constitution is to be interpreted is a living one for us today, both in the scholarly and in the political domains. Professors argue about "interpretivism" and "originalism" in law journals, they study hermeneutics and deconstruction to determine whether or not interpretation is possible at all, and if so on what premises, and they struggle to create theories that will tell us both what we do in fact and what we ought to do. Politicians and public figures (including Attorney General Edwin Meese) talk in the newspapers and elsewhere about the authority of the "original intention of …
