Attitudes Of College Students Toward The World Food Crisis, Susan Ann Nartker
Attitudes Of College Students Toward The World Food Crisis, Susan Ann Nartker
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
In the fall of 1990, a survey was conducted to examine the attitudes of 79 college students toward the world food crisis. The findings from this study were then compared with the results from a study conducted in 1975 which examined the attitudes of 72 college students toward the world food crisis. The survey questionnaire constructed for the 1975 study was used in the 1990 study. In the 1990 study, only two categories showed significant change: (1) subjects felt less personally threatened by the food crisis than in 1975, and (2) respondents felt less sure that population control offered any …

Life History Characteristics Of Brachionus Plicatilis (Rotifera) Fed Different Algae, J. Korstad, Y. Olsen, O. Vadstein
College of Science and Engineering Faculty Research and Scholarship
A detailed study of the life history of the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis was done at 20 °C, 20 ppt salinity, and 90 mg C 1−1 food concentration. Rotifers were grown individually in culture plate wells (150 µl culture volume) and fed Isochrysis galbana Tahiti, Tetraselmis sp., Nannochloris atomus, or a l : 1 mixture (weight) of two of the algae. Observations were made every 2–8 hr and rotifers were sized and transferred to new food daily. A total of 19 different parameters were compared. Rotifers fed Isochrysis averaged 21 offspring per female, a 6.7 day reproductive period, a …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this study was to define the messages related to food preparation that are conveyed by women's magazines to homemakers as consumers during the post-World War II period, and to analyze any changes of those messages over time. A content analysis of food related articles and advertisements in representative issues of Ladies' Home Journal and Good Housekeeping magazines from 1947 to 1986 was conducted. Both manifest and latent content were coded and agreement between the two measures was analyzed.
Of eighteen messages defined, five were found to account for 78.9 percent of the messages conveyed,. The five messages, …

Determination Of Internal Color Of Beef Ribeye Steaks Using Digital Image Analysis, K. Unklesbay, N. Unklesbay, J. Keller
Determination Of Internal Color Of Beef Ribeye Steaks Using Digital Image Analysis, K. Unklesbay, N. Unklesbay, J. Keller
Food Structure
Objective measurements of beef ribeye steaks were made to determine the color distribution throughout their interior after heat processing. Steaks from eight animals were grilled to five degrees of doneness according to traditional internal temperature specifications. Images of the interior of these steaks, as seen by a digital image processing system through red, green, and blue filters were analyzed. The mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis of the histograms of light intensity at all points throughout the surface were determined. The steaks were also analyzed raw and it was determined that little variation in the color of muscle tissue occurred …

An Economic Analysis Of Food Policy In The Ivory Coast, Yao Prao Felix
An Economic Analysis Of Food Policy In The Ivory Coast, Yao Prao Felix
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Ivory Coast covers an area of 124,000 square miles with reasonable rainfall for food crops production. But besides what has been called the economic "miracle," the country relies on increasing food imports (rice, wheat, meat, and milk products). At the same time, the country's earnings from the major export commodities are shrinking. So the primary objective was to identify the main causes and circumstances that have resulted in reductions in food production. The major hypothesis was that the present situation is simply the result of policies that have favored cash crops relative to good products. A formal treatment and an …
