Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Theses & Dissertations
Classroom disruption, more recently referred to as civility, changes the in-person classroom experience. This study investigated the impact of gender, race, age, and teaching experience on faculty perceptions of classroom incivility.
Faculty at a large, public institution in the Southeastern United States participated in the research for this study. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to understand the relationship between the demographic variables of the participants and their perception of classroom incivility.
Study findings yielded significant results, with positive relationships between the demographic variables and perception of classroom incivility. Limitations and implications for future research are discussed.

Riding The Wave: Getting Faculty On Board With The Ir During The Pandemic, Jennifer M. Langford, Randall Watts
Medical Institutional Repositories in Libraries (MIRL)
The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic initially caused widespread academic conference cancellations, leaving many University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) faculty members without a means to present scholarship required for the annual review process. Faculty members concerned about meeting their scholarship requirements appealed to campus administration for assistance. UTHSC’s Health Sciences Library (HSL) was able to step in and offer the library-managed UTHSC Digital Commons repository as a solution to this dilemma. The urgency of faculty concerns, combined with positive messaging about Digital Commons coming from campus administration, increased campus interest in the repository. Ultimately, as conferences transitioned to …

You’Ve Got Mail: A Sequential Mixed Methods Linguistic Investigation Of Faculty And Advisor Email, Kevin A. Manley
Dissertations
Email is one of the most prolific forms of communication in the world. As colleges and universities move more student experiences online, faculty members and advisors need to understand how to best communicate with students. In an attempt to understand how faculty and advisors write, and, more importantly, how students read, I developed this two-phase mixed methods investigation. In Phase I, I collected nine writing samples from 19 faculty and advisor participants and dissected the samples with Pennebaker Conglomerate’s 2015 Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) program. In a transition phase, I leveraged Phase I data to create an instrument …

Users Satisfaction With Academic Library Services By Faculty And Students At The University Of Health And Allied Sciences, Ho., Elias Kormla Komla Tseh Mr.
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Academic libraries today are facing their greatest challenge since the explosion in tertiary education and academic publishing all over the world. In every institution, there is an existence of academic libraries to support teaching, learning and research work. Academic libraries were mostly established to support higher learning institutions in order to promote research teaching and learning in the universities. Faculty and students mostly make use of the library for information they may need to satisfy their needs in their academic discourse. This paper examines the relationship between service quality and users satisfaction at UHAS and also examines how user surveys …

Journey To The Professoriate: Exploring The Career Development Of African American Male Faculty In Counselor Education, Lacretisha Danielle Mcdole
Journey To The Professoriate: Exploring The Career Development Of African American Male Faculty In Counselor Education, Lacretisha Danielle Mcdole
Dissertations
Much of the existing literature on African American faculty in counselor education and supervision programs focuses on the challenges that confront them as racial minorities (Bradley & Holcomb-McCoy, 2004; Holcomb-McCoy & Addison-Bradley, 2005; Thompson, 2008; Turner & Myers, 2000). Findings from recent research studies have offered ways to support and guide African American faculty in combating racial discrimination and oppression within the academy (Jones-Boyd, 2016; Robinson, 2018). However, there are gaps in the literature about the personal and environmental factors that shape African Americans’ decisions to pursue the professoriate in counselor education and supervision, and factors that contribute to their …

A Thematic Analysis Of The Attitudes And Perceptions Of Faculty Towards Inclusion Of Interprofessional Education In Healthcare Curriculum, Jitendra Singh, Tracy Eisenschenk
International Journal of Health Sciences Education
This qualitative study aimed to explore attitudes and perceptions of faculty towards inclusion of interprofessional education (IPE) in healthcare curriculum. Efforts were made to explore faculty members’ definition of IPE, significance of including IPE in content and curriculum and resources available to implement such initiatives in healthcare education programs. Further, challenges faced while including IPE in curriculum were also explored. Face to face semi structured interviews were conducted, and a six-step thematic analysis framework was utilized to analyze the collected data. Further, four dimension criteria was utilized to establish the rigor of the study. Eleven participants across undergraduate and graduate …

We Are Partners! - Connecting Through Collaboration And Engagement With Communities At Smu Libraries, Wei Xia
Proceedings of the IATUL Conferences
Increasingly today, libraries are competing for attention in the digital world and need to demonstrate their value to their communities. Singapore Management University Libraries (SMU Libraries) proactively initiate, engage, and collaborate with its internal and external communities and expand easy access to relevant, responsive resources that furthers the needs of the SMU community. These initiatives are aligned with the university’s strategies of integration, industry, innovation, and internationalization. Research librarians at SMU Libraries too, are re-inventing themselves by working closely with their faculty, students, and the external community to make significant impact on the quality of research, teaching, and learning. Covid-19 Pandemic: A Mixed-Methods Study Investigation Of A Health Science System Faculty's Adaptations To An Online (Non-Traditional) Teaching Environment For Health Professional Students, Daryl Philip Lofaso
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this mixed method study was to explore the transition to an online educational platform for future health professional students at a southern health sciences system due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV-2) virus. The majority of health professional students received their education via face-to-face prior to the pandemic. The pandemic altered their traditional pedagogical method of face-to-face to online instruction. The health professional school faculty offer the best instruction in a lecture hall not on a computer screen using Zoom. This study was designed to analyze how the faculty adapted in moving to an online instructional method, …

“I’M Better Off On My Own”: Understanding How A Tutorial’S Medium Affects Physical Skill Development, Shreyosi Endow, Cesar Torres
Association of Computing Machinery Open Access Agreement Publications-Archive
The shift towards distance learning brought forth by the pandemic has highlighted the shortcomings of teaching physical skills at a distance. With the emergence of new augmented and connected mediums, new opportunities arise for transferring physical skills that have resisted traditional documentation methods. However, there lacks a framework that allows tutorial authors to capitalize on a new medium’s unique affordances rather than remediating existing tutorial conventions. Our work analyzes a body of tutorials rendered in various mediums for centering clay on a pottery wheel — a foundational skill that exemplifies the difficulties of physical skill transfer. Through the lens of …
