Dapivirine Vaginal Ring (PrEP Ring)
The Population Council is leveraging its innovative ring technology to develop a range of next-generation prevention products that advance the science of HIV prevention. These include a three-month dapivirine-only vaginal ring as well as combination rings that leverage the potency of different ARVs.
There will be no single solution to ending the epidemic—stopping HIV will require a variety of options. Research from the family planning field has shown that when more options are available, women are able to choose what best fits their circumstance and life stage. This means that there is an urgent need to expand the number of …

Reshaping The Narrative Around Sexual And Reproductive Health And Rights Research In Refugee Settings: Case Studies From Baobab, Baobab Research Programme Consortium
Humanitarian Task Force
The Baobab Research Programme Consortium (Baobab) is an Africa-based, African-led consortium, spearheaded by the Population Council, Inc., in partnership with the Population Council–Kenya and the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC). The consortium is reshaping the narrative around sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) research in refugee settings. For the first time, Baobab is bringing rigorous, large-scale, globally-recognized SRHR surveys into these contexts, addressing longstanding barriers for refugee populations. These case studies highlight the successful impact that the programme has had on those living in humanitarian settings as well as the research field.

Enhancing Educational Outcomes For English Learners: The Role Of Culturally Responsive Teaching And Professional Development In Texas, Elisa Garcia, Kristi L. Santi
Journal of English Learner Education
The increasing population of English learners (ELs) in Texas public schools requires a focused approach to their education. This article explores the challenges faced by ELs, including the risk of misplacement in educational programs and the need for culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices. Drawing on recent research, the article highlights the importance of professional development (PD) tailored to the unique needs of ELs. Effective PD programs should prioritize cultural and linguistic awareness, collaborative learning opportunities, and strategies for differentiated instruction. The article also discusses the significance of engaging parents and the community in supporting ELs. By implementing these recommendations, …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The present study investigates a central problem in the field of virtual education: how it influences the use of Google Meet in the Oral Production Competition of University Students at a public university in Lima. The research issue focuses on determining whether this platform, widely integrated into current educational environments, effectively contributes to the development of oral communicative skills in a foreign language. In a context where digital technologies are essential for teaching, understanding their real impact is essential to optimize learning processes in non-face-to-face modalities. Therefore, this investigation adopts an innovative approach based on neutral Z numbers, which allows …

In France, primary school teachers are considered "generalist teachers" capable of expertly teaching all subjects. This ambitious vision of the "ideal teacher," defined by the 2013 French professional competency framework, can lead to professional distress, particularly in foreign language teaching where many primary school teachers feel inadequate.
To improve the well-being of future primary school teachers during language lessons, an innovative teacher training based on children's literature was tested with first-year Master's students in education. The study began with a questionnaire assessing their self-perceived English level and emotions towards teaching it, revealing linguistic insecurity and negative feelings such as anxiety …

Capacity Of The Health System To Provide Safe Abortion And Post-Abortion Care In Refugee Settings In Ethiopia: Evidence Brief, Baobab Research Programme Consortium, Guttmacher Institute
Capacity Of The Health System To Provide Safe Abortion And Post-Abortion Care In Refugee Settings In Ethiopia: Evidence Brief, Baobab Research Programme Consortium, Guttmacher Institute
Humanitarian Task Force
The Baobab Research Programme Consortium (RPC), in collaboration with the Guttmacher Institute, implemented the application of the Abortion Incidence Complications Method (AICM) in refugee settings in Ethiopia. Little is known about the health system’s capacity to provide post-abortion care (PAC) or safe abortion care (SAC) services as these have been less studied, especially in the context of refugee settings. This brief assesses the availability of SAC and PAC for women living in humanitarian settings in Ethiopia.

Unintended Pregnancy, Induced Abortion, And Abortion-Related Complications Among Women In Humanitarian Settings In Uganda: Evidence Brief, Baobab Research Programme Consortium, Guttmacher Institute
Humanitarian Task Force
The Baobab Research Programme Consortium (RPC), in collaboration with the Guttmacher Institute, implemented the first-ever application of the Abortion Incidence Complications Method (AICM) in refugee settings in Uganda. Complementing this effort, the Baobab RPC also conducted a household survey on unintended pregnancy among women residing in these humanitarian contexts. The data presented herein are derived from these two rigorous studies and offer critical insights into the prevalence, drivers, and consequences of unsafe abortion and unintended pregnancy in displacement settings. These findings contribute to a growing body of evidence aimed at informing policy, programming, and resource allocation for sexual and reproductive …

Contraceptive Use, Intention To Use, And Method Preferences Among Women In Refugee Settings In Ethiopia: Evidence Brief, Baobab Research Programme Consortium
Humanitarian Task Force
The Baobab Research Programme Consortium's unintended pregnancy survey generated evidence of the prevalence of unintended pregnancy and contraceptive use and aims to identify innovative solutions in refugee settings in Ethiopia. This evidence brief presents findings on the current use of contraception, intention to use, and method preferences among women aged 15–45 years who participated in the unintended pregnancy baseline unintended pregnancy survey conducted in four refugee camps in Ethiopia in 2024 to 2025.

Incidence Of Induced Abortion And Severity Of Abortion-Related Complications Among Women In Refugee Settings In Ethiopia: Evidence Brief, Baobab Research Programme Consortium, Guttmacher Institute
Humanitarian Task Force
Humanitarian crises disrupt essential services, making it difficult for people to access basic care, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. While data on SRH services in humanitarian settings is lacking, even less is known about how common abortion is or the severity of abortion-related complications in these settings. This evidence brief provides estimates of the incidence of induced abortion among refugee women in Ethiopia and the proportion of these abortions that occurred within the formal health care system. This brief also presents information on the management and severity of abortion-related complications among women living in refugee settings in Ethiopia. …

Exposing Lived Experiences: Eudora Welty's Intersectional Approach To Writing And Photography, Caroline Mccutchen
Honors Theses
This thesis examines how Eudora Welty employs an intersectional approach in her writing and photography to represent the complex identities of elderly Black women in the American South during the Great Depression. Using intersectionality as a framework, this project analyzes how Welty’s work acknowledges the overlapping forces of race, gender, age, and class that shape her subjects’ lived experiences. While documenting adversity, Welty also highlights resilience, agency, and communal empowerment. The study focuses on Welty’s literary works “A Worn Path,” “Ida M’Toy,” “A Pageant of Birds,” and “Cindy and the Joyful Noise,” alongside her Depression-era photographs from One Time, One …

Humanitarian crises disrupt essential services, making it difficult for people to access basic care, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. While data on SRH services in humanitarian settings is lacking, even less is known about how common abortion is or the severity of abortion-related complications in these settings. Using a modified application of the Abortion Incidence and Complications Methodology (AICM), this study aimed to estimate the incidence of induced abortion, determine the severity of abortion related complications, and assess the capacity of the health system to offer safe abortion and quality postabortion care among refugee women in 23 of …
