It was the purpose of this study to develop a proposed policy for in-service education of teachers in larger unified school districts in California.

The specific purposes of this study were (1) to report the nature and scope of written, in-service education policies of California school districts, (2) to report the nature and scope of employee training policies of the State of California and of the United States government, (3) to summarize in-service education policy changes recommended in the literature, and (4) to develop a proposed policy for in-service education of teachers in larger unified school districts in California.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to survey ·learning disability students and students in special day classes and to compare them on select characteristics to each other and to children attending regular day classes.

VARIABLES: The selected variables. for this study were creativity, locus of control, and academic achievement. Each of these variables was divided into sub-parts permitting a more inclusive consideration. Creativity was measured for the factors of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the effects of two different group counseling techniques on the academic achievement and self-concept of elementary school Mexican-American pupils. Also included in the study were the results of a pilot study conducted with Mexican-American pupils to compare the Semantic Differential Technique and the Self-Esteem Inventory in the measurement of self-concept.

Substantial numbers of children from low-income areas do not learn to read sufficiently well to enjoy success in school. There is no published empirical evidence regarding the use of programed tutoring in reading at the second grade level. The impact of programed tutoring on the reading achievement of second grade children must be demonstrated and not inferred from research at the first grade level. This is true, not only in terms of criterion referenced instruments related to the tutoring materials, but in terms of normative referenced instruments designed to sample reading skills. It was the purpose of this research project to develop a method which could be used by college and university personnel to obtain students' perceptions of and convictions concerning advising programs on their campuses. Included in the procedure was a demonstration of how it can be determined where the greatest needs are and whether or not there are any significant differences in the perceptions of, or expressed needs for, counseling and advising by different categories of students within the school. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of membership in a large or small family to the patterns of achievement as revealed by the results of the subtests of the Iowa Test of Preschool Development (ITPD). Of interest also was the study of the relationship of membership in subgroups based on both race and family size to patterns of achievement.

The problem of the investigation concerned itself with the effect of preschool experiences on the achievement of the kindergarten children enrolled in the 1971-1972 Follow Through Program in Waterloo, Iowa, which used the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, model of individually prescribed instruction. The study explored the effects of preschool experience upon kindergarten males and females as contrasted to the male and female kindergarten children without preschool experience.

Two conceptual constructs gave direction and provided the rationale for this study. The first conceptual construct provided research related to early childhood education presented according to the Geneticist, Environmentalist, and the Interactionalist's positions. The second …

This paper presents a classification schedule which may be utilized to organize the printed materials found in a curriculum laboratory. The schedule is designed to provide the user with maximum ease of access to the materials contained in the collection and relieves the curriculum librarian of many of the clerical routines common to the processing of new materials. The present study involved two separate experiments. Experiment I involved a group of Psychology 101 students who had not purchased a local publication named Lecture Notes for the Psychology 101 lectures. These students were then classified as high and low achievers by utilizing the n Ach scale of the EPPS, and high and low in ability by their respective SCAT score. One of half the subjects in each of the four groups were given a free set of Lecture Notes to the Psychology 101 lectures. Performance on Psychology 101 exams became the dependent variable.
