The purpose of this study was to develop sequential lessons to help teachers work with students who have delayed communication abilities. A syllabus of forty lessons was developed to provide additional instruction and practice in the areas of expressive and receptive language skills.

Divergent thinking exists among educators regarding the need for teaching experience or the amount of administrative training necessary at the elementary school level as a prerequisite for the elementary school principalship. Even among elementary school principals there is disagreement as to the importance placed on teaching experience or administrative training, as many principals feel on-the-job experience is the most significant factor in developing qualities of a successful administrator. This study examines the value of elementary principals place on teaching experience, on-the-job experience, and educational training.

This project report presents the development of an alternative education program for Tumwater School District, Tumwater, Washington. The program was examined in four parts: the existent conditions as the program began, the initial organization of the program, development and implementation, and the reorganization and closure of the program. The recommendations included additional research on the effect of alternative education program's on student achievement.

Current in-school suspension programs and their effectiveness were studied. Selected junior high schools and middle schools in the state of Washington were surveyed, and twenty-one responded with information concerning their in-school suspension programs. The results showed that in-school suspension programs in Washington state, if established with certain fundamental criteria, are an effective alternative to out of school suspension. They also provide a learning process for discipline cases at the junior high school and middle school levels.

A preschool model for 3-5 year old rural handicapped children is based on developmental skills in the areas of receptive and expressive language acquisition, fine and gross motor movement and beginning cognitive skills. Also included, to facilitate the establishment of a new rural preschool is a list of materials needed to begin the program and a list of free and low cost legal, medical, and assessment services. The need for rural preschool programs is discussed as well as reasons for growth of preschool in Washington state.

How to organize for instruction is a decision that must be made when planning for the school year. When looking at organizational patterns, the building principal must be concerned not only with ability grouping but other ways a school may be organized. In some school districts the organizational pattern of the school is established by board policy, while in others the organizational pattern is established by individual teachers. In the Millard, Nebraska Public Schools the building principal is responsible for the final decision-making concerning organizational patterns in the building.

The purpose of this study was that of determining if intelligence quotient mean test scores of middle school students of different races, sexes, and socioeconomic classes could be significantly increased through the use of tangible and intangible rewards of money and praise. One hundred and thirty-five students from lower and middle socioeconomic classes were randomly assigned to three groups. The stratified groups, two experimental and one control, contained approximately the same numbers of male and female students. The students were identified as lower and middle socioeconomic class whites and lower socioeconomic blacks. A counterbalanced design was employed for the study. …

The purpose of this study was to investigate school building utilization in Kentucky and make appropriate recommendations for efficient procedural guidelines in the decision-making process for future utilization. The study was presented in five parts. First, related literature was searched for criteria for guidelines for building utilization. Second, a survey instrument was mailed to the 181 school superintendents of Kentucky to determine building utilization. One hundred percent were returned. Third, one school district with abandoned buildings was examined to determine utilization and to project relative costs of retaining the buildings compared to replacing them when needed. The problem of this study was to determine the prevalence and certain sources of stress among elementary school teachers (grades kindergarten through six), and the relationship of stress to certain selected teacher factors. This study followed the ex post facto design which attempted to determine if certain teacher factors affected the way in which teachers responded to the questionnaire regarding the prevalence and sources of stress perceived.
