Leadership Decisions: Situational Dimensions And Leaders' Responses In Labor Intensive Industries, Alan R. Mcmurray
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between situational leadership effectiveness of administrators in hospitals and principals in high schools in a selected geographical area. The data-gathering instruments were the Leader Effectiveness & Adaptability Description (LEAD-Self) and a one-page demographic sheet. The LEAD-Self provides a measurement of situational leadership style and leadership effectiveness based upon responses to 12 administrative decisions. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data gathered, with the Eta and Pearson's product-moment being the correlation studies used. Six research questions were explored, dealing with the relationship between the effectiveness score and the …

Effective Schools: A Review, Rebecca Corrine Reyes
Effective Schools: A Review, Rebecca Corrine Reyes
Whittier Scholars Program
Effective schools literature seeks to prove that the students can achieve academic mastery independent of discrimination. The program utilized to educate the student is what makes the difference in education, All of the programs on effective schools have a great many similarities. Each program appears to emphasize different factors that each school believes are the influencing factors in achieving effectiveness. It is necessary to develop a program for each school separately because the faculty and students may require special programs. Based on the research covered in this review, I found the following variables to be the most important: management leadership, …
The Evaluation Of A Mid-Western Suburban School District's Teacher Selection Model, Steven Charles Moore
The Evaluation Of A Mid-Western Suburban School District's Teacher Selection Model, Steven Charles Moore
Student Work
The success of any organization is closely related to the quality of personnel employed to achieve the purposes of the organization. This is certainly true in a labor intensive organization such as the public schools. While available financial support, adequate facilities, community support, and a well defined organizational purpose are important to achieve quality education, the most crucial single element in the education process is the people engaged to help students learn (Castetter, 1986).

A Comparison Of The Verbalization Attempts And Word Approximations Produced By Mentally Retarded Students Who Receive Training On Selected Words Using Simultaneous Sign And Speech And Training On Selected Words Using Speech Only, Susanna E. Moser Johnston
Student Work
Developing communication and speech skills in nonverbal and speech limited moderately and severely mentally retarded children and adults has been a concern of speech pathologists and special educators for many years. When traditional methods of verbal language training have met with limited or no success, teachers and speech pathologists have had to seek alternative methods of communication for their nonverbal and speech limited mentally retarded students.
A Comparative Study Of The Verbal Achievement Of Students Who Study Foreign Language And Those Who Do Not Study Foreign Language, Rosemary Simpson
A Comparative Study Of The Verbal Achievement Of Students Who Study Foreign Language And Those Who Do Not Study Foreign Language, Rosemary Simpson
Student Work
The history of foreign language training has emphasized a positive connection between learning another language and learning one's own (Schilling, 1985; Coleman, 1929). Educators believe that through concentration on individual words, grammar, and structure, foreign language heightens the student's awareness of verbal expression in general. Although children begin to speak English at an early age, progress is a result of informal repetition and mimicry. Many junior high students can speak reasonably well but are hard-pressed to distinguish nouns from verbs because they have not examined their own language closely. On the other hand, foreign language students frequently acknowledge greater understanding …
The Perceived Importance Of Selected Teaching Competencies By Student Teachers And Practitioners In Regular And Special Education, Ann M. Potter
The Perceived Importance Of Selected Teaching Competencies By Student Teachers And Practitioners In Regular And Special Education, Ann M. Potter
Student Work
The process of becoming an educator involves acquiring a combination of skills and knowledge to help students learn. In today's social climate of "back to the basics" and increased calls for teacher accountability, it is inevitable that there would be an emphasis on improved teacher preparation. Teacher educators have responded, in part, with an increasing focus on specifying the competencies a student in teacher education is expected to possess by the completion of the training sequence (Engstrom & Schwaab, 1984).

Creative Learning: A Curriculum For Preprimary Children: Unit 6: The Five Senses, Marjorie L. Oelerich, Jean Peterson, Meredith S. Ring
Elementary and Literacy Education Department Publications
THE FIVE SENSES is one resource unit. It is hoped to serve as a resource to others as they guide the learning of young children. It is not a cut-and-dried,how-to-do-it book. But it is a collection of numerous learning experiences within the context of a unit setting. The various disciplines are not, and cannot, be separated; learning overlaps. With a central theme, young children will have many opportunities to examine, investigate, explore, experience and discover concepts of meaning. As the children approach the same concept from a number of experiences, they will have opportunities to formulate ideas, to test these …
