No Pass, No Play: Perceptions Of Texas High School Administrators, W. Scott Clark Oct 1987

No Pass, No Play: Perceptions Of Texas High School Administrators, W. Scott Clark

Student Work

For decades, there has been a continuous debate regarding the effect that school related activities have on their participants in later life. Some educators believe that school activities are a laboratory of the school curriculum and produce positive traits like leadership, self-esteem, and social and emotional development (Walter and Smith, 1986). However, many educators feel that activities (i.e. athletics) are too predominant in the educational process (Miller, 1985).

Student Feedback On Teacher Effectiveness For The Purpose Of Improving Instruction, Gary R. Noerrlinger

Student Work

Since elementary students have an opportunity to view their teachers in a variety of situations and circumstances throughout the school year, the students have the potential to provide teachers with valuable feedback. This source of information on teacher performance has received very little attention at the elementary school level. The major focus of the study was to examine student feedback on teacher effectiveness and those factors which might influence student feedback.

An Evaluation Of The Pilot Appraisal System Adopted By The Omaha Public Schools, Sharon M. Watts

Student Work

Currently, teacher evaluation is a dominant educational concern. Articles dealing with the problems and solutions to the evaluation of teaching reveal the extensiveness of the problem. There are complaints from teachers regarding the specifics of evaluation such as: too many administrative visits, too few administrative visits, insufficient feedback after the evaluation, lack of administrative understanding of the curriculum, lack of time for the teacher to correct the problems identified and of opportunity for teacher improvement. There are also complaints from administrators. These complaints include the lack of time to make observations, lack of understanding of the teacher's goals and lack …

A questionnaire, developed by the researcher, was field tested through a six-week pilot study with 100 instructional supervisors in Virginia. A Quantitative Analysis Of Poverty, Inequality And Consumer Behaviour: The Case Of The Schedule Casts And Tribes Of Karnataka., Shailaja Raghuprasad Dr.

Doctoral Theses

The concept of growth with social justice is basic to the philosophy of development underlying Indian economic Planning. This philosophy is reflected in our former Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi's foreword to the sixth Plan (1980-85) document where she wrote, Economic Growth must be balanced, it must ensure self - reliance, stability and social justice. All sections should be assured that there will be no discrimination'.It is with those weaker sections - rather a segment of them that this study is concerned, Our study is an attempt to look closely at the levels of living and the consumer behaviour of …

A Survey Of Teachers' Perceptions Concerning The Single Parent Child, Margaret E. Huebner Jul 1987

A Survey Of Teachers' Perceptions Concerning The Single Parent Child, Margaret E. Huebner

Theses

This impact of parental divorce on childrens' adjustment has become the concern of many educators. Family life and childhood socialization has been continually redefined due to this marital disruption phenomenon. Since the structure of the contemporary American· family, composed of mother, father, and children has changed, educators need to be aware of the special needs and adjustments necessary for the children.

The purpose of this study was to determine by a survey if children from single parent homes were perceived in a more negative way, by their teachers, than children from intact homes. If children from single parent homes were …

Social Skills And Problem Solving Techniques Of The Mildly Mentally Handicapped, Elizabeth Smith

Student Work

The major thrust of special education in the last decade has been to assist students in learning skills they will need for a successful living and working experience in our society. How successful has the attempt been? The 50% to 80% unemployment rate for handicapped workers indicates that the strategies used thus far have not been extremely successful.

Parent And Teacher Perceptions Of The Importance And Effectiveness Of An Individual Education Program, Thomas Morinelli

Student Work

In 1975, Congress passed the Education of All Handicapped Children Act (P.L. 94-142) which had profound effects on the provision of special education services to handicapped children. The law mandated that every student identified as handicapped be provided with an individual education program (IEP). The IEP was to be developed in a meeting attended by a representative of the local educational agency, the child's teacher(s), parents of the child, and, when appropriate, the child. The individualized education program plan is to contain statements of the child's current level of performance, annual goals and short-term objectives, the specific special education services …

Create A New Town And A New You To Improve Writing Skills, Barbara Broadfoot Jun 1987

Create A New Town And A New You To Improve Writing Skills, Barbara Broadfoot

Theses

Writing has always been one of the corners tones of American education . Schools are concerned with the development of students, and writing contributes to the development of the whole person. The public is alarmed because many students graduate from high school without being able to write well enough to function in today's complicated society.

There a re many reasons why schools fail to do a good job in the teaching of writing. One of the main reasons is the schools' over-emphasis on the teaching of grammar. Many teachers are not trained as teachers of writing and rely on the …

The program is composed of three major components: orientation (informing), student performance assessments, and execution (exercise prescription and monitoring). Assistance in procedures, execution of activities and evaluation monitoring are built within the …

A Structured Writing Program To Improve Fluency And Attitudes Of Seventh Grade Students In A Basic English Program, Janifer Gorney

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

The intent of this practicum was to increase writing fluency and improve writing attitudes exhibited by a group of seventh grade students with Yaqui and Hispanic backgrounds. During a period of 16 weeks, a writing unit was implemented consisting of twenty structured activities to guide students in presenting their ideas and to increase their chances for success. As students' fluency increased, the patterns and models given became less structured so that students used more of their own ideas.

Evaluation was conducted through the use of Quality Writing Guidelines as well as student and parent follow-up surveys. Results indicated increased levels …

A Projected Enrollment Study Of The Papillion-Lavista Public School District, James Melonis

Student Work

Society will continue to undergo many demographic changes in the years ahead. The United States is facing a new demographic shock wave. For the first time, there are more Americans over 65 than under 18. It is no secret that the demographic portrait of the United States is slowly shifting patterns in the nation's class and family structures, in its immigration flow, in its work force, social support systems, and in its regional concentration of people.
