University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Man is reciprocal:

The function of man's education is concerned with the dynamics of the reciprocity between man as the in- individual and man as a social group. It becomes the specific responsibility of the school to provide valid experiences through which each student as an individual master the means, the methods, the understandings, the strategies, the philosophy requisite to successful operation of such harmonics as exist or possibly may exist between himself and the group of which he is or may be an integral part.

History And Educational Philosophy Of Seventh-Day Adventist Secondary Schools, Carl William Shafer

Master's Theses

In introducing this subject, History and Educational Philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist Secondary Schools, it is important first that the need and purpose of Christian education be stated. If there is no real need or no real purpose, then Seventh-day Adventists have no right to sacrifice their means and energies in the establishing and maintaining of these secondary schools the world over.

Seventh-day Adventists have believed, from the beginning of their movement, that Christian education is the only answer to the education of the full man. All great educators agree that if education does what it should do, it develops the …

A Review Of Moehlman's "School And Church: The American Way.", O. C. Rupprecht

Concordia Theological Monthly

Which is ''the American way" for the religious training of American children? According to Dr. C.H. Moehlman, Professor of the History of Christianity at the Colgate-Rochester Divinity School, the American way is a different one from that pursued in Christian parochial schools. The American way is to let public schools (in preference to parochial schools) and churches exist side by side, and to encourage them in at least …

Some Phases Of Pioneer Education On The Kentucky Frontier With Emphasis On Nelson County, 1785-1860., Wenonah Maraman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

"Kentucky owed most of her remarkable intellectual development at an early age in her history, to the fact that at the close of the Revolutionary War in 1781 many of the most intellectual and cultivated of officers and soldiers in that war from the states of Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland - being unsettled in their homes and business by its great duration privations and calamities - sought new homes in the then richest land in the known world. Thus, the times and the country itself, the very life of hardship, self-denial, and self-dependence, combined to make a race …
