"Centering on Marine Animals for Elementary School Children" was a multi-curricular learning center design in four parts. It consisted of an introduction on Bubbles the Whale, including a picture, a puppet, a song, a Sea Script, and task cards. Following the introduction were three units on Sea Monsters of the World, the Migration of the Grey Whale, and the Ecology of the Southern Sea Otter. Each unit contained a picture of the sea animal, a puppet, a song, a Sea Script, a Quiz, map(s), and task cards.

Problem. Catharsis is becoming more widely talked about as a method to get rid of negative emotions, to gain increased achievement, social maturity, and emotional well being. The emphasis on affective education is one example. There have been few controlled studies testing the catharsis hypothesis directly. No formal research is available that uses (randomly chosen) young people as subjects in studying emotional discharge.

This study investigated and compared the non-verbal creative behavior of Spanish-English Proficient (SEP) and Limited-English Proficient (LEP) girls as measured by the figural form of the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT); and examined the relationships of non-verbal creative thinking and selected home environment variables, as measured by the Index of Home Educational Environment (IEE). A sample of 31 LEP and 30 SEP students was selected from a total population of 140 girls. The selection of the sample was done in two stages. A handbook was created for the Thorp School District to provide teachers with science goals and objectives for each grade level. A science philosophy, a sample evaluation sheet, elementary science scope and sequence, a list of current textbooks, and the sequences of science classes were also presented in the handbook. Curriculum guides from several districts were studied before the goals and objectives were written for the handbook. The research on the needs of a curriculum and the past and current trends in science curriculum was reviewed. The literature regarding science curriculum supported the development of the handbook. Recommendations were proposed.

I have read with interest the response by Graham Henderson of the Toronto Humane Society (lnt J Stud Anim Prob 2(6):305-309, 1981). I agree with many of his statements and am pleased that he, in turn, agreed with most of mine, although at first, this was not entirely apparent. In fact, I found Mr. Henderson's letter to be somewhat confusing, and it contained a number of inaccuracies and contradictions. So, please bear with me if I go into some detail to try to unravel the confusion.

Use Of Supplemental Audiovisual Materials With Remedial Science Students, Marjorie Ruth Yergen

This project was undertaken to determine if the use of supplemental audiovisual materials would benefit identified remedial seventh grade science pupils. Two experimental groups of remedial pupils were presented various amounts of supplemental audiovisual materials. Both groups were then compared to a control group of remedial pupils receiving no experimental treatment. The results showed support for the hypothesis that there would be no significant difference in learning when supplemental audiovisual materials were used.

Home Language Acquisition Skills Notebook, Rosanna May Detering

The home language acquisition skills notebook was developed to aid parents in giving appropriate language stimulation and activities for their child's level of development, four to six years of age. In addition, positive home teaching techniques, positive home language hints, and a mini-language library bibliography are also available to guide the parent in appropriate home language intervention. Although the notebook will be used with language delayed children first, it is designed to be used with all children in the Lake Chelan Elementary Kindergarten in an attempt to stimulate better language skills, both receptive and expressive.

Blood Lactate Removal During Varying Intensities Of Active Recovery Following Supramaximal Work., Stephen Lollar Dodd

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of varying intensities of recovery exercise on the level of blood lactate after a short, supramaximal exercise bout. Seven males were advised of the testing protocol and consented to serve as subjects. All subjects performed an oxygen cost of cycling test and maximal oxygen uptake (VO(,2)(' )max) test prior to the commencement of the recovery tests. The subjects then performed one of four treatments on separate days with 1-4 days of rest between tests. Preceding each treatment the subjects cycled at a workload corresponding to 150% of VO(,2)(' )max for …

The Field-Dependence-Independence (FDI) cognitive style refers to the relative ability of an individual to perceive elements as discrete from an overall organization. It is most commonly measured by the Portable-Rod-and-Frame Test (PRFT) and the children's Embedded Figure Test (CEFT). This study was concerned with the relationship of PRFT and CEFT to the reading, language, and math achievement scores of Anglo-American, first-generation Chinese- and Mexican-American elementary school children. This study investigated the effects of videotape modeling of self-disclosing behavior on counselor trainees. More specifically, the study was designed to determine whether an increased willingness to disclose one's attitudes and opinions in appropriate situations could be taught to counselor trainees as part of their training. The subjects were two groups of counselor trainees selected, not on a random basis, but on the basis of their availability from two different sections in the Counseling Practicum at Fresno State University. The intention of this project is to develop a middle school extracurricular program which encourages academic excellence. Providing an enrichment program was the stated goal of a community- staff meeting on district priorities. A questionnaire sent to area schools and a thorough review of available literature revealed no existing program to use as a role model . The Corps of Discovery program attempts to meet the need for encouraging and rewarding academic excellence.
