The Effect Of Multicultural Counseling Training On Multicultural Sensitivity Of Graduate Students, Lucy Fukasawa Field

This study was designed to investigate the effect of five weeks (45 hours) of multicultural counseling training on the multicultural sensitivity of graduate level students. The treatment group (12 students) received five weeks of intensive training designed to increase their awareness of multicultural issues and personal biases and limitations. The control group (13 students) did not receive multicultural training, but did receive experiential training, related to leadership roles, in small groups. The problem of this study was to identify and describe the individual learning activities of caregivers of people with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and to develop an analytical description of the patterns of learning of these adults. An instrument was not available for use; therefore, a focused interview guide was developed. The interview guide was developed through consultation with several spouses or adult children caring for Alzheimer's patients, professionals in the health care field, and a review of the literature. Social Judgment Research Applied Toward Estimating Factors Relevant To Dui Offenders' Intentions To Drink And Drive: A Factorial Survey Approach, Daniel Elvin Dunlap

The aim of this study was fourfold: (1) to measure the extent to which select circumstances weighed in driving-under-the-influence (DUI) offenders' intentions to drive after drinking; (2) to assess the impact of formal sanction, informal sanction, and moral inhibition with respect to intentions to drive after drinking; (3) to investigate the likelihood of each of fourteen rationalizations to represent a justification to drive after drinking; and (4) to examine possible associations between DUI offender characteristics and the factors indicated above. The offender characteristics of age, prior DUI offenses, and motor vehicle accidents involving alcohol were statistically significant, yet showed negligible …

Higher Education And Life Chances: A Study Of Occupational Attainments And Attitudes Among Some Public University Graduates, Richard Peter Talbot

This study investigates the post-graduate educational and occupational experiences of the 1968 and 1978 graduates of a state flagship university. First, it explores the influence of parental variables upon respondents' choice of curriculum and of post-graduate study. Second, it examines the occupational placement of the respondents by cohort and by gender. Third, it explores the present attitudes of the respondents by cohort and gender.

A stratified random sampling of the graduates (N = 433) via a mailed survey questionnaire shows that more men than women in the 1968 cohort return their forms. There is the suspicion that only those who …

This study examines the socio-economic status of Indian women in the plantation. Utilizing a sociological approach, the research was conducted among 45 Indian women respondents in Ladang Cha'ah, an oil palm plantation in the state of Johore in Peninsular Malaysia. A survey of Alaska corrections personnel reveals that employees in all clasiffications tend to have more than the minimum education or experience required for their positions. More than 74 percent of college-educated corrections personnel earned degrees and more than 40 percent acquired their experience outside Alaska. The advantages and disadvantages of hiring large numbers of employees whose education and experience were gained elsewhere are discussed in the context of the unique problems of correctional service delivery in so large and diverse a state.

The Effect Of Parental Aggression On Children's Cognitive Development, Susan Elizabeth Craig

The study investigated the relationship between parental aggression and children's cognitive development. Parental aggression was studied in terms of both verbal aggression and use of physical force. Indexes developed from form N of the Conflict Tactics Scales (Straus, 1979) were used to measure both variables at three levels: low, middle and high. The dependent variables were measures of the child's (A) cognitive style, (B) cognitive functioning and (C) self-esteem.

Previous research indicates a relationship between abuse and cognitive development: Ackly (1977), Elmer (1967), Martin (1979). A methodological limitation of these studies is that they used samples of children previously identified …

The purpose of the study was to examine relationships between indices of teacher alienation behavior (TAB) and (a) teacher perceptions of multiple dimensions of the work environment, (b) environmental robustness, and (c) teacher personal life characteristics. Teacher perceptions of the work environment and the robustness of key roles in the school organization were explored as factors contributing to the holding power of school. Twenty teachers at each of 97 schools in a large urban school district in Louisiana were randomly selected. This descriptive research investigated the relationship between the presence or absence of certain supervisory behaviors with supervisee perception of supervisor expertness, attractiveness, and trustworthiness. This research also investigated the relationship between supervisee perception of supervisory behavior. This research was a replication of Heppner and Handley (1982). Participants in this study were students and their supervisors for beginning practicum classes at the cooperating midwestern universities. The forty supervisory dyads met for a minimum of one hour of supervision per week for the duration of the semester. Education, experience, and training of personnel are frequently used as measures of quality in correctional agencies. This survey of Alaska Department of Corrections (DOC) personnel, conducted in 1984, revealed that employees in all classifications tended to have more than the minimum education or experience required for their positions. Approximately 66 percent of all DOC personnel (N=636) participated in the survey. Of this number, 47.8 percent reported having at least a two-year college degree and 35.1 percent had a four-year degree. Purpose. The purposes of this study were to determine: (a) to what extent does faculty burnout exist within the California State University (CSU) system; (b) the correlation between faculty burnout and various demographic factors; (c) the correlation of the measured variables of burnout as related to self-perceptions; and (d) the dimensions of burnout within the CSU system. Procedures. Full-time faculty from each of the 19 CSU campuses were surveyed.
