03. First Edition Of Harry Stottlemeier's Discovery (1974) By Matthew Lipman, Matthew Lipman
Middle School Curriculum
Harry Stottlemeier's Discovery is the student book for a project in philosophical thinking. It offers a model of dialogue—both of children with one another and of children with adults. The story is set among a classroom of children who begin to understand the basics of logical reasoning when Harry, who isn't paying attention in class, says that a comet is a planet because he remembers hearing that comets revolve around the sun just as planets do. The events that follow in the classroom and outside of school are a recreation of the ways that children night might find themselves thinking …

The Effects Of A Structured And Unstructured Kindergarten Program On The Readiness Scores Of Children In Selected Public Schools In Lafayette Parish, Louisiana., Mary Coletta Mcdonough Newkome
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The major purpose of this study was to determine if there was a significant difference in readiness test scores between students who participated in a structured kindergarten program and those who participated in an unstructured program. This investigation also sought to examine the achievement of students relative to certain variables, such as morning and afternoon session, race, sex, preschool attendance, French spoken in the home, place of residence, birth order, and father's years of education. The relationship of variables to test scores was studied in terms of the total population of kindergarten children, as well as in terms of the …

The population for this study was comprised of teachers in public schools which serve pupils in kindergarten through grade eight or any portion thereof. Interview With Lillian Calcia, Donald Raichle, Lillian Calcia
Interviews
This interview was conducted by Prof. Donald Raichle in preparation for his book From a Normal Beginning: the Origins of Kean College of New Jersey, printed in 1980. It’s a transcript between Lillian Calcia and Raichle. Lillian Calcia was the former chair of the Art Department at Newark State Teachers College. She recounts her career in art education and the development of the college’s fine arts program. Calcia describes how she and her colleagues built a comprehensive curriculum integrating traditional fine arts with crafts, industrial design, and community-focused art education. Despite limited facilities, the college fostered close faculty-student relationships and …
The Future Of Christian Education In The Missouri Synod: A Matter Of Self-Understanding, Stephen A. Schmidt
The Future Of Christian Education In The Missouri Synod: A Matter Of Self-Understanding, Stephen A. Schmidt
Concordia Theological Monthly
Permit me to outline the remarks. I will trace briefly the historical benchmarks of our cultural and ecclesiastical past. Secondly, I will develop candid suggestions about the revitalization of that heritage for our present and future. Naturally in the second enterprise one ceases to be historian, risking rather the role of prophet, a dubious undertaking for any person doing history. But there is some comfort in the words of the British philosopher of history, W. H. Walsh, who writes: "Historians may not be prophets but they are often in a position to prophesy."

Personalized Reading Program For Intermediate Grades, Pamela Kay Kelly
Personalized Reading Program For Intermediate Grades, Pamela Kay Kelly
All Graduate Projects
As the reading specialist in an elementary school, it was my responsibility to assist the classroom teachers with their reading program; specifically, with those students who were having difficulty. It was not feasible for me to meet with all who needed help; at the most, I could help forty-three students per week. The pace at which I had to function to assess and meet their individual needs became too great. In view of this situation, the following program was designed to stimulate every intermediate student's desire to read and to do so at his own pace.

A Submission For The Award Of A Diploma Of Teaching, Churchlands Teachers College
Research outputs pre 2011
The Churchlands Teachers College was established in 1972 and at September, 1973, had a total enrolment of 422, including 253 first-year students and 169 students in their second year of primary training. The programme is being developed in accommodation designed on similar principles to the open-area primary schools which are being established in Western Australia. Teaching blocks are modular cluster units, each of which typically comprises a large open area surrounded by teaching areas of adjustable size, a tutorial room and staff studies. The teaching blocks are positioned in close relationship to the centrally-placed buildings of the Educational Resources Service …

A Comparative Study Of Twelfth-Grade Social Studies Using A Student-Activity Method, A Traditional Method, And A Combination Traditional-Activity Method Of Instruction., James Edward Darcy
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The problem statement. The twelfth grade social studies in the Merced Union High School District had been traditional in its organization and structure until the mid 1960's. 10 At that time the district-began to encourage teachers of government to draft new goals and innovate new methods of instruction in the government curriculum. Three separate methods of teaching twelfth grade social studies emerged as a result of that encouragement. In the Atwater High School, an activity-centered approach uses team teaching in which the emphasis is on having students involved in "doing" rather than listening and reading about government. This method includes …
A Study Of Selected Walt Disney Screenplays And Films And The Stereotyping Of The Role Of The Female, Jerry P. Houseman
A Study Of Selected Walt Disney Screenplays And Films And The Stereotyping Of The Role Of The Female, Jerry P. Houseman
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Given this large involvement that children have with motion pictures, an educator is moved to inquire into the possible effects that movies might have upon them. It, therefore, seems appropriate that an educational dissertation be undertaken concentrating on Disney Production films, since as indicated by the foregoing, they are so universally viewed by American children.
Statement of the problem:
This study attempted to (1) analyze the five screenplays listed on page 6, (2) show two Disney films based on the screenplays analyzed to groups of children and administer a questionnaire to them. The investigator used the obtained data to determine …
A Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Of Individual Learning Units In A Junior High School Basic Mathematics Program., Nicholas Anthony Laplaca
A Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Of Individual Learning Units In A Junior High School Basic Mathematics Program., Nicholas Anthony Laplaca
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The study was designed to: (1) determine the expenditures for an individual basic mathematics program in the junior high schools using individual Learning Units, (2) determine the expenditures for a traditional, textbook-oriented approach to basic mathematics instruction, and (3) compare the achievement gains of the two programs. Null hypotheses related to cost-effectiveness stated that the operational cost per unit gain, and the sum of the developmental and operational cost per unit gain of the ILU program would be greater than the cost per unit gain of the traditional approach. Null hypotheses related to effectiveness stated that the ILU treatment would …

Changes In Scholastic Achievement And Intelligence Of Indian Children Enrolled In A Foster Placement Program, Linda Ouida Willson
Theses and Dissertations
This study examines the long-term effects of the Indian Placement Program on the enrolled students' scholastic achievement as measured by standardized tests given in the schools. It also examines intelligence test scores and changes in them during years in the Program. The following effects on achievement were also examined: sex, age and grade at initial placement, and the child's adjustment as measured by number of foster homes in which he had been placed.
