Language Problems And Aboriginal Education, Ed Brumby (Ed.)
Language Problems And Aboriginal Education, Ed Brumby (Ed.)
Research outputs pre 2011
Effective communication must be an essential feature of any teaching/ .learning situation and it follows that considerable difficulties arise when teacher and learner speak different and mutually unintelligible languages or dialects. This, unfortunately, is the situation in which many, if not most, Aboriginal children and their teachers throughout Australia find themselves. This classroom situation reflects, of course, the difficulties and frustrations experienced on a wider scale by many Aboriginal parents and Aboriginal communities, and those outsiders who work with them. The problem is compounded further by the fact that few teachers or others who work in Aboriginal areas are given …

Sex Roles, Career Aspirations, Child Care Expectations, And Birth Intentions Of Selected College Freshmen, Pamila Joan Fisher
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Decisions regarding careers, marriage, children and the care of children are sufficiently complex to warrant a genuine dilemma for some college students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the birth intentions of male and female college freshmen and the relationships of those intentions to sex roles, career aspirations and preferences for various child care options.
Relevant demographic and personal data were obtained from a questionnaire which also included the set of items from Dr. John Scanzoni's sex role scale. The questionnaire was administered to a total of 715 randomly selected college freshmen from three California institutions: a community …

The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not school districts WITH music leaders, as compared to those districts WITHOUT music leaders, have more (1) music students, (2) music classes and performance group opportunities, (3) music staff and development opportunities, (4) adequate financial support and adequate inventories for music, and (5) goal orientation in music. The Effects Of Counseling Involvement On Elementary School Student Behavior., Rosanne Marie Perry
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of varying degrees of involvement in the therapeutic process. The sample of this field study was comprised of those clients involved in a county mental health linked program administered by a private agency. The target population was kindergarten, first and second grade students in selected county schools. Having been referred by their teachers, each child was then treated by a counselor who provided individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and/or consultation. If it seemed appropriate, in-class tutoring or compensatory classes were offered for the child. The two experimental groups were …
Our Multicultural Future And The School, John Sherwood (Ed.)
Our Multicultural Future And The School, John Sherwood (Ed.)
Research outputs pre 2011
It is only in the last four or five years that an observable effort has been made to extend the growing awareness within the community that Australia's population is clearly multicultural in composition. Despite this, most of the political, economic and social structures and organisations in the community do not adequately reflect or cater for the variety of people of different ethnic origins and identities.
While this increasing awareness in individuals is encouraging, it has been evident that the focus of discussions, conferences and gatherings to date, in Western Australia at least, has been rather narrow. Some have concentrated on …

The Development Of A Comprehensive Long Range Plan To Determine The Financial Facility And Program Needs For The Iowa School For The Deaf Council Bluffs, Iowa, Norman Keith Devine
Student Work
Everyone concerned, including parents of deaf children, educators of the deaf, board members, legislators, and eventually the deaf person himself wants the same thing. That is the best possible education for each deaf child. In order to provide programs that will insure this end, there is a need for a well thought out long-range plan of action. Traditionally, long-range planning by schools has been concerned with certain quantitative aspects of operation: enrollment projections, facility needs, current income, current expenditures, and variations of these quantities. The emphasis in this study was that resource planning dominated attention.

The Present Status And Future Trends Of Business Education Programs In Nebraska Public High Schools, Pamela A. Troutman
The Present Status And Future Trends Of Business Education Programs In Nebraska Public High Schools, Pamela A. Troutman
Student Work
Curriculum and instruction decision making is a complex problem. Many attempts have been made in the past two decades to develop new curriculum and instructional techniques which the proponents of such programs and procedures hoped would be adopted by schools throughout the nation. In many cases, however, such hopes were never realized since the classroom teacherp were unwilling or unable to use the new approaches. Thus a more realistic picture of what is currently happening or what will happen in any curriculum area can be better determined by finding out what classroom teachers anticipate than by relying on the prediction …
