Should Antitrust Education Be Mandatory (For Law School Administrators)?, Royce De R. Barondes, Thomas A. Lambert
Faculty Publications
The Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools has adopted a Statement of Good Practices that purports to limit the times when law schools may make offers to hire faculty members at other schools. Schools are generally not to make offers for indefinite appointments to professors on other faculties after March 1, subject to extension for two months with the consent of the incumbent's dean. They also are not to make offers contemplating resignation from a current faculty position more than two weeks following those deadlines. Proceeding on the assumption that the AALS policy, whose express terms are …

In 2003, The John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing, New York University Division of Nursing, convened an expert panel to explore the potential for developing recommendations for the caseloads of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in nursing homes and to provide substantive and detailed strategies to strengthen the use of APNs in nursing homes. The panel, consisting of nationally recognized experts in geriatric practice, education, research, public policy, and long-term care, developed six recommendations related to caseloads for APNs in nursing homes. The recommendations address educational preparation of APNs; average reimbursable APN visits per day; factors affecting APNs caseload …

We Want The Best, J. Patrick Murphy C.M., Ph.D.
Vincentian Studies
J. Patrick Murphy argues that for Vincentian educational institutions to fulfill their mission, their leadership must model Vincentian values. It is also essential to hire faculty who will put those values and mission into practice. It is better to employ people whose personal principles match those of the Vincentians than it is to hire candidates who look the best qualified on paper, but who do not connect with the mission. The greatest results come from asking people to do their best and providing a work environment in which they can do that. Once hiring is done, leaders must continually educate …

Education Problems With Urban Migratory Children In China, Fei Yan
Education Problems With Urban Migratory Children In China, Fei Yan
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
In China, due to the Residence Registration System and Segmented Governmental Management of Education, the educatioal problems with urban migratory children have been overlooked for a long time. The results are, on one hand, these children have no access to Public-Funded School because they are not categorized as local residents; on the other hand the illegal Schools for Migrant Workers' Children exist in many cities. The satisfactory solution to the problem will be a win-win process: the promotion of migratory children's education will not only benefit this minority group and the communities in which they live, but also contribute to …

Department of Jefferson Headache Center Papers and Presentations
The social perception of headache, everywhere at low levels in industrialised countries, becomes totally absent in developing ones. Headache disorders came into the World Health Organization's strategic priorities after publication of the 2001 World Health Report. Among the leading causes of disability, migraine was ranked 19th for adults of both sexes together and 12th for females. The Global Campaign (GC) to Reduce the Burden of Headache Worldwide was planned by the major international headache organizations together with WHO in order to identify and remove those cultural, social and educational barriers recognised as responsible factors for the inadequate treatment of headache …

Texas Needs More Drug Courts., Bryan S. Oathout
Texas Needs More Drug Courts., Bryan S. Oathout
The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice
Drug courts are the nation’s newest legal development in the war on drugs. These courts attempt to stop drug abuse through a treatment-based alternative court which focuses on an offender’s addiction and decluttering the courts. The main goal of drug courts is rehabilitation, not punishment. Drug courts help diminish the cost of putting drug-abusing offenders into our criminal justice system which causes prison and jail overcrowding. Fighting drug abuse also drains our economic resources. Since the implementation of drug courts in 1989, over seventy percent of drug-abusing offenders have either successfully completed the drug court program or are still participating …
