The Education Of The Son In Paradise Regained: Milton’S Of Education As A Guide, Alice Matthews

Quidditas

“The Education of the Son in Paradise Regained: Milton’s Of Education as a Guide” argues that the character of Christ provides a model for effective learning, which is outlined in Milton’s treatise On Education. In the treatise, first published in 1644, some twenty- seven years before his brief epic, Milton explains the purpose for education as strengthening one’s relationship with God, and the best method for acquiring it— gradually, progressing from the easy to the more difficult. In my essay, I will analyze each step in Christ’s education, beginning with his boyhood and culminating in his temptation on …

The preparation of secondary teacher candidates through traditional (n = 13) or alternative (n = 15) options did not statistically significantly impact knowledge, skills or dispositions. Results for content knowledge, as measured at entrance to the program based on the Pre-Professional Skills Test, indicate that candidates who entered the traditional secondary teacher preparation program begin their studies with measured content knowledge in reading, writing, and mathematics that was congruent with the content knowledge of post-baccalaureate candidates who entered the alternative secondary teacher preparation program. Furthermore, content knowledge, based on cumulative grade point averages calculated upon completion of all …

Masculine Gender Roles And Therapy: A Conceptual Workshop, Sara Lindsey Gray Jan 2009

Masculine Gender Roles And Therapy: A Conceptual Workshop, Sara Lindsey Gray

Master's Theses and Capstones

Traditional gender stereotypes, no matter how inaccurate they may be, still greatly affect how we view ourselves as men and women in our society. While all these stereotypes are constricting male stereotypes present some of the most limiting expectations for individuals. Within the realm of counseling and psychotherapy, these stereotypes conflict with such ideals as self exploration and emotional awareness and expression.

This paper reviews past and recent research and theories on the development and reiteration of male stereotypes as well as how these expectations play a role in therapeutic techniques. A conceptual workshop model is also presented as an …

Empirical Development Of An Instructional Product And Its Impact On Mastery Of Geometry Concepts, Donaldson Williams Jan 2009

Empirical Development Of An Instructional Product And Its Impact On Mastery Of Geometry Concepts, Donaldson Williams

Dissertations

Problem

Relatively poor levels of mathematical thinking among American school children have been identified as a major issue over the past half century. Many efforts have been made to increase the mathematics performance of children in schools. Additionally, out-of-school-time programs have attempted to address this issue as well. Holistic development is one of the distinguishing features of Seventh-day Adventist instructional programs. Yet, as of 2007, the Pathfinder program, an informal educational program operated by the world-wide Seventh-day Adventist church, had no instructional product designed to foster participants’ cognitive development in mathematics. This study focused on the empirical development of an …

The Impact Of High-Fidelity Human Patient Simulation On Clinical Judgment Of Nursing Students: A Pilot Study, Timothy L. Boyd Jr. Jan 2009

The Impact Of High-Fidelity Human Patient Simulation On Clinical Judgment Of Nursing Students: A Pilot Study, Timothy L. Boyd Jr.

Master's Theses and Capstones

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is encouraging their constituents to increase clinical judgment of nursing students to meet increased workplace demands and higher patient acuity. The literature suggests that human patient simulation (HPS) may be a teaching pedagogy to promote clinical judgment. However, few quantitative studies exist that measure clinical judgment as an outcome of HPS. A pilot study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design that randomly assigned subjects (n = 11) into one of three groups: control, traditional and experimental. Subjects completed pretests for three dimensions of clinical judgment: knowledge, confidence and skill. Following the intervention which …

The Effect Of Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (Sbar) Education On The Quality Of Student Nurses Handoff Report, Kerri Goupil

Master's Theses and Capstones

Leaders in patient safety initiatives have promoted the use of standardized communication at the time of handoff as a means to decrease the margin for errors during the transmission of critical information. One means of standardizing handoff is by using the framework provided by the Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (SBAR) communication technique. This framework provides specific guidelines for organizing and communicating relevant patient information at the time of handoff. To date there is a gap in training and education of handoff practices at the academic level of healthcare students. Potential interventions to address this gap include the positive benefits of …

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to closely examine the school climate of a K-12 school that operated as a single entity for 20 years. The intent was …

Education For All Children, Sharon Harrall Jan 2009

Education For All Children, Sharon Harrall

Human Rights & Human Welfare

The UN Declaration of Human Rights, ratified in 1948, declared for the first time the right to education as a human right. Article 26 (1) states that “everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory.” Since then, the right to education has been reaffirmed in subsequent treaties and global conferences. These treaties have also highlighted the need to provide education to all children without discrimination, and particularly to ensure equal access for girls. Historically, we have seen great gender disparities in the enrollment rates of …
