BACKGROUND: Culinary medicine, which has recently increased in popularity in medical education, incorporates food and nutritional interventions with principles of disease prevention and treatment. The ultimate goal is to improve overall health outcomes. The growing prevalence of diet-related chronic diseases indicates the need for physicians to have a deeper understanding of the interplay between nutrition and disease. Incorporating culinary medicine into medical education can equip medical students with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote better patient outcomes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate students' perceptions of their foundational knowledge of a culinary medicine course after completion of …

Highlights: 1. An evaluation is necessary to verify that the knowledge of healthcare providers is sufficient for the early detection of biliary atresia. 2. It is crucial to promote education on prolonged jaundice to ensure early detection of biliary atresia in primary health facilities, as some primary healthcare providers have insufficient knowledge on the subject. Abstract Primary healthcare providers frequently fail to recognize biliary atresia because it closely mimics physiological jaundice. Early detection plays an important role in ensuring the optimal treatment of biliary atresia. Delays in referring to biliary atresia cases remain a problem around the world. The objective …

Lyndon Baines Johnson: A Case Study Of His Servant-Leadership And Its Historical And Modern Effects On Society Today, Jeffrey Coats
Lyndon Baines Johnson: A Case Study Of His Servant-Leadership And Its Historical And Modern Effects On Society Today, Jeffrey Coats
Servant Leadership: Theory & Practice
Lyndon Baines Johnson, LBJ, was one of the most influential servant-leaders of the 20th Century
and is considered controversial due to his involvement in Vietnam War, a war he inherited. Johnson was
the living embodiment of a servant-leader who wanted to help the poor, the disenfranchised and
lift them up, making them freer, healthier, wiser, and more autonomous. This is seen throughout
his presidency by pushing for the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act
of 1965 making African-Americans and other minorities equal citizens of society. His
commitment to serve others can also be seen …

Western Science And Eastern Zen To Seek The Origin Of Truth: Philosophical Background Of Scale Modeling, Kozo Saito
Western Science And Eastern Zen To Seek The Origin Of Truth: Philosophical Background Of Scale Modeling, Kozo Saito
Progress in Scale Modeling, an International Journal
This article was written to introduce philosophical background of scale modeling, where Zen philosophy was applied to overcome the limitation of logical thinking and hypotheses-driven deductive science. Three specific reasons are as follows. The first is related to the law approach in scale modeling; it uses the kufu principle, originated in Zen Buddhism, together with the other three scientific methods: experimental, theoretical, and computational. The second reason is because scale modeling seeks relativistic understanding by attempting to realize similarity; the concept is closer to Eastern philosophy rather than absolute understanding cultivated by deductive science. The third is in the educational …

Childhood Discipline Disparities For African American And Latinx Students, Cierra Townsend
Childhood Discipline Disparities For African American And Latinx Students, Cierra Townsend
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
African American and Latinx students are disproportionality impacted by punitive discipline models including suspensions, detention, and expulsions. This disproportionality removes students from the education setting creating adverse social emotional, academic, and economic outcomes. Students who are suspended and expelled are more likely to have contact with the juvenile justice system and or to be pushed out of school into alternative settings. Therefore, punitive discipline leads to increased school-based pathways to the juvenile justice system (SPJJ), also known as the school the prison pipeline (STPP). Despite knowledge of these adverse outcomes, schools continue to utilize punitive discipline practices. School psychologists are …

Phenomenological Inquiry Into Middle School Teachers’ Perception Of Creativity, Katalin Grajzel
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Researchers do agree that creativity is an ability that can be developed and should be fostered (Guilford, 1958; Parnes, 1961). Teachers play an important role in creativity development and often serve as gatekeepers to identify gifted and talented students (Bianco et al., 2011; Novak & Jones, 2021; Schack & Starko, 1990). However, teachers’ judgment of their students’ creativity often only correlates weakly with the results of creativity measures (Kettler et al., 2018; Torrance, 1963). Therefore, in this study I explored teachers’ perception of creativity and creative students as well as factors that support or hinder creativity. The findings revealed that …

Early Childhood Education Leadership In Tanzania: A Missing Link For Quality Good Start In Basic Education, Fortidas Bakuza
Institute for Educational Development, East Africa
Early Childhood is a foundational period in the life of every child that is very important in the growth and development of each human being. In most literature, policy documents and program interventions, Early Childhood covers the period between conceptions to eight years. It is during this period in the human life cycle that young children acquire knowledge of themselves, people around them and the environments in which they live. Early Childhood as a foundation period for future development is demanding specialized leadership training opportunities, so that those in decision making positions do not only view Early Childhood Education as …

Faculty Journal Articles
Climate change education is crucial for fostering informed and engaged future generations. However, traditional pedagogies often fail to engage learners fully and provide real-world, experiential learning. This paper presents a novel approach to climate change education through a three-day virtual reality (VR) hackathon. The hackathon focused on four United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—Quality Education, Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Climate Action. Using VR technology and game design software, engineering students worked in teams. They competed against each other in designing immersive environments that demonstrated their understanding of these SDGs and climate change. Our goal …

While there is evidence that organizational supports may lead to better employee health, research on implementing such organizational supports is lacking. This research sought to understand organizational supports and implementation of those supports using an Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods design approach. Employee survey responses (n = 202) were used to classify organizations into “high” and “low” categories for employee-reported health behavior improvement, agreement, and readiness for implementing change. For the qualitative phase of research (organization-level), semi-structured interviews were conducted with organization leads, and data were analyzed through constant comparative analysis procedure. Analyses sought to identify differences between “high” versus “low” …

Addressing Educational Inequality In The United States: A Comparative Approach To The European System, Yi-Sheng Liu
Marquette Benefits and Social Welfare Law Review
This study compares educational inequality in the U.S. and Europe. Utilizing a comparative approach based on the Positive Obligations of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, we expand on social contexts and objective facts to address how the U.S responds to educational inequality issues in contemporary constitutional interpretation (digital transformation and disparity, for example). We examine emerging issues in social change and expectations and discuss the rationale for constitutional legal norms to explain how these contribute to constitutional change. We suggest that the nation’s confrontation with educational inequality should be guided by …

Inclusive Postsecondary Education's Effect On Individuals With Idd: A Systematic Literature Review, Hunter Wolff
University Honors Theses
With the purpose of evaluating the impact of Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) effects on those experiencing intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD), a systematic literature review was conducted. Proponents of the expansion of these programs often cite participant growth in academic-related skills, socialization, and competitive integrated employment. While several studies document these benefits, few studies present and discuss all the data collectively. This review aims to both locate the data that shows how IPSE programs affect the students within them as well as to provide a location in which all the data can be accessed. A thorough conducting of the research …

BACKGROUND: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is independently associated with increased morbidity and mortality across the life course, yet care for AKI remains mostly supportive. Raising awareness of this life-threatening clinical syndrome through education and advocacy efforts is the key to improving patient outcomes. Here, we describe the unique roles education and advocacy play in the care of children with AKI, discuss the importance of customizing educational outreach efforts to individual groups and contexts, and highlight the opportunities created through innovations and partnerships to optimize lifelong health outcomes.
METHODS: During the 26th Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) consensus conference, a multidisciplinary …
