Using the crisis in context theory (CCT) as an ecological framework to understanding human behaviors, the study examined organizational responses and individual employee coping behaviors to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing from the perspectives of psychology, organization development, and management, the research examined dependent and independent organization and self-initiated actions that employees deemed helpful in coping with the effects of the crisis. Qualitative data were gathered through online survey from 216 employees in the Philippines, a developing country whose major cities were on community quarantine to minimize the spread of the pandemic. Covid-19 And Social Isolation Endangering Psychological Health Of Older Adults: Implications For Telepsychiatry, Kavita Batra, Amanda Elizabeth Morgan, Manoj Sharma

Environmental & Global Health Faculty Research

Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) has created a public health emergency and had claimed 911,877 lives at the time of writing this manuscript (September 12, 2020). While everybody is at the risk of acquiring infection following the exposure to SARS-CoV-2, older adults are significantly more likely to experience severe illness, life-threatening complications, hospitalizations, and deaths. As the pandemic evolved, social distancing or shielding efforts as primary prevention were instituted to protect the physical health status of the vulnerable population, with no or limited consideration to the psychological health of the older population. Social isolation and loneliness are the long-standing public health concerns …

Covid-19 Exposures And Health Alerts (9/21/2020- 9/27/2020), Georgia Southern University

Covid-19 Pandemic: News & Publications (Archived)

The report below shows an anticipated rise in confirmed and self-reported cases after completion of the second full week of classes on our campuses. As an institution of nearly 27,000 students and 3,350 employees, positive reports represent a very small proportion of our overall university population. These cases are primarily concentrated within the student population on the Statesboro campus. While we have been pleased with how the university community is complying with public health guidelines on our campuses, we must remain vigilant in our efforts if we want to continue the semester as we have started.

A Syndemic Perspective On The Management Of Non-Communicable Diseases Amid The Covid-19 Pandemic In Low- And Middle-Income Countries, Uday Narayan Yadav, Binod Rayamajhee, Sabuj Kanti Mistry, Shradha S. Parsekar

Open Access archive

The global coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has greatly affected the lives of people living with non-communicable diseases (PLWNCDs). The health of PLWNCDs worsens when synergistic epidemics or “syndemics” occur due to the interaction between socioecological and biological factors, resulting in adverse outcomes. These interactions can affect the physical, emotional, and social well-being of PLWNCDs. In this paper, we discuss the effects of the COVID-19 syndemic on PLWNCDs, particularly how it has exposed them to NCD risk factors and disrupted essential public health services. We conclude by reflecting on strategies and policies that deal with the COVID-19 syndemic among PLWNCDs in …

Perinatal Anxiety And Depression During The Covid 19 Pandemic, Helen Xumin Chen, Nancy Selix, Marcianna Nosek

DNP Qualifying Manuscripts

Abstract

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak places perinatal women at higher risk of developing anxiety and depression. Uncertainty, fear, and confusion in medical, social, economic, occupational and political aspects of life in the US add to existing stressors that perinatal women experience. To optimize the quality of perinatal care during the pandemic, appropriate mental health interventions must be implemented to prevent and alleviate perinatal anxiety and depression and improve maternal and infant outcomes. Measures include increased screening, non-pharmacologic and/or pharmacologic interventions and the use of telehealth for care delivery.

Keywords: perinatal anxiety, perinatal depression, COVID-19, SARS CoV-2, maternal …

Strategic Thinking On Strengthening Construction Of National Emergency Prevention And Control System Of Tcm For Major Infectious Diseases, Tong Xiaolin, Zhu Xiangdong, Zhao Linhua, Li Qingwei, Lei Ye, Song Bin, Shao Jianzhu, Wang Qiang, Li Xiuyang, Zheng Yujiao, Fan Aihan

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

COVID-19 epidemic is still raging globally, while China has not only controlled the spread of the epidemic in time, but domestic production and life have gradually recovered. China's epidemic prevention and control work achieved strategic results, and the full participation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has become the highlight of the works. However, confronting of sudden major infectious diseases, the emergency reserves and emergency capabilities of TCM are insufficient, especially in the rapid emergency response mechanism, emergency treatment system, professional personnel training, emergency scientific research system and platform construction, and emergency strategic resource reserve. Strengthening the construction of the TCM …

Summary And Recommendations Of Development Of Public Health And Disease Prevention And Control, Sun Dianjianyi, Li Liming

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

The COVID-19 epidemic in 2020 is an emergency public health event rapidly spreading and hard to prevent and control, causing catastrophic loss of life and almost paralyzing the society. In the absence of specific antiviral drugs and vaccines, China has effectively curbed the spread of COVID-19 by taking non-medical intervention actions decisively and precisely, with the multidepartmental collaborations and involvement of all communities and individuals. However, in the process of combating the epidemic, problems and shortcomings have also been clearly shown in the disease control system and the emergency response system. This review tried to address the weaknesses and issues …
