This thesis qualifies and documents a new genre of interdisciplinary, interactive theatre called Dodgeballs and Dragons. It covers a brief history of Dungeons and Dragons and Theatre of the Oppressed (the two foundational works for the new genre) as well as previous uses of D&D as a form of theatrical entertainment. After establishing the precedence used to create this product, the rest of the thesis breaks down how to write, lead, and play these shows on a regular basis. The document culminates in collected data providing concrete evidence for the future of the form and its many applications.

The diagnostic classification of gender dysphoria in the DSM-5-TR elicits a number of clinical, political, and philosophical concerns, ranging from those that are diagnostic and taxonomical in nature to those that fall within the domains of ontology, phenomenology, and hermeneutics. Part of the reason for the complexity of studying the diagnostic and nosological validity of gender dysphoria as an extant diagnostic classification is that, unlike many disorders, gender dysphoria is inextricably tethered to identity. This qualitative study examines how highly skilled foreign-national parents navigate parenting and educational decision-making within the context of cultural transition in the United States. While existing research on foreign-national parenting has largely focused on socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, less is known about families who possess substantial educational and professional capital. Despite these advantages, these parents encounter unique challenges related to institutional navigation, identity negotiation, and social constraints. This study uses atmospheric reanalysis, precipitation and snow water equivalent (SWE) analyses, mesonet observations, and streamflow records to examine the impact of an atmospheric river storm that produced heavy rainfall and snowpack ablation across the Catskill Mountains of New York on 24–25 December 2020. Earlier in December, an antecedent storm produced SWE values in the Catskills above the 90^th percentile for that point in the season. The atmospheric river event followed with strong southerly warm-air advection ahead of an anomalously deep trough, temperatures and dewpoints that exceeded 10°C, and heavy orographically enhanced rainfall and rapid snowmelt. Precipitation from landfalling tropical cyclones (TCs) poses a significant risk to life and property in both coastal and inland communities. Early warning systems can help mitigate the impacts of TC-induced flooding; however, this requires accurate quantitative precipitation forecasts (QPFs). Forecasting precipitation from landfalling TCs is a challenge, as the intensity, duration, and location of precipitation can be dependent on numerous storm-related and environmental factors. Hydroclimate variability over tropical South America is strongly influenced by meridional shifts in the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), yet the spatial expression and dynamical controls of these changes during the last millennium remain poorly understood. This work investigates hydroclimate variability and ITCZ migration over the last millennium (850-1850 CE) using a new isotope-enabled data assimilation (DA) reconstruction made from a suite of speleothem δ¹⁸O records from the neotropics on both sides of the ITCZ. Dr. Martin C. Mihm, Jr.'s innovative work on the dysplastic nevus achieved a milestone in his chapter in the World Health Organisation Classification of Skin Tumours (WHO-C). WHO-C presents a dichotomous classification (high-grade versus low-grade dysplastic nevi) and a quantitative metric to assess melanocytic nuclear enlargement. The Duke classification is a related approach that provides mostly quantitative histopathologic criteria for dysplastic nevi and gives due weight to architectural features as well as cytology. This mixed methods comparative case study examined how educational stakeholders make sense of one another’s perspectives during district-level collaborative work and the conditions that may foster conscientization, the critical reflection on one’s positionality. This dissertation studies the eighteenth-century English novel and expands the understanding of realism by rereading realist novels through Gothic representations of the masses. The conventional understanding of realism is shaped by Ian Watt’s canonical concept of “formal realism” in The Rise of the Novel and Jürgen Habermas’s conception of the bourgeois public sphere. It identifies realism with a vision of civility grounded in the modern individual and bourgeois social reality. Background and purpose: Proton therapy has become widely used for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) due to its ability to spare normal tissue. However, the commonly assumed relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of 1.1 may underestimate the therapy's true biological effects on lung, potentially leading to a higher than expected incidence of radiation-induced pneumonitis (RP). In this retrospective study, we evaluated the variability of organ-specific RBE of proton therapy using RP grade 2 or higher (RP2+) as an endpoint.

Background: Glycogen storage disease type Ia (GSDIa) is a rare, inherited, autosomal recessive deficiency of glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase), an enzyme necessary in glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. To maintain normal blood glucose levels and ensure survival, individuals living with GSDIa must frequently consume complex carbohydrates (eg, uncooked cornstarch). Dietary management can result in chronic complications and significant patient burden. DTX401 (pariglasgene brecaparvovec) is an investigational adeno-associated virus serotype 8 vector (AAV8)-based gene therapy designed to restore endogenous glucose production.

Background/objectives: Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism. If untreated, elevated blood phenylalanine (Phe) levels lead to neurological and behavioral impairments. Phe levels can be managed through a lifelong Phe-restricted diet; however, this can be challenging to maintain. Sepiapterin is an adjunct therapy for PKU that has shown efficacy in reducing blood Phe levels in both tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4)-responsive and BH4-non-responsive people with PKU in clinical trials. Practical guidance is needed for dietitians and other healthcare professionals supporting the dietary management of people with PKU who are initiating or receiving sepiapterin.

Introduction: Acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) is a common presentation of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) toxicity. Increased tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α expression has been observed in ICI-induced AIN (ICI-AIN). In this study, we compared treatment with glucocorticoids plus infliximab to glucocorticoids only in stage III or IV ICI-AIN. We conducted retrospective NanoString analysis of ICI-exposed kidney samples to identify associated gene signatures and possible association with TNF-α expression.

The role of T cells in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is complex and shaped by biological and experimental factors, including sex, hormonal status, genetic background, and cancer model. This complexity has contributed to inconsistent findings among studies, limiting therapeutic progress. In this study, we investigate how T cells contribute to painful paclitaxel (PTX)-induced peripheral neuropathy (PIPN). Adult male T cell-competent (RNU+/−) and T cell-deficient (RNU−/−) rats were subcutaneously inoculated with tumor cells and subsequently treated with intraperitoneal PTX (8 mg/kg total dose). Humans interact with our environment in many ways. One of the most outward-facing aspects of this is limb dominance. The neural underpinnings of limb dominance remain in question today. The objective of this research was to use different methods to analyze neural activation while subjects performed upper extremity motor tasks while recording electroencephalography (EEG). The first experiment used decoding methods to examine whether neural signals collected from the contralateral limb could be used to train a classifier to test on the ipsilateral limb during a reach-to-grasp or reach-to-touch task. While Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) based redistricting algorithms have become a standard computational tool for detecting partisan gerrymandering, their effectiveness in addressing racial gerrymandering and their scalability on modern computing systems remain limited. As an obligate intracellular bacteria, invasion of the host cell is a crucial step in Chlamydia’s developmental cycle. To drive invasion, Ct injects prepackaged effectors into the host cell using a T3SS. The well-known Heath–Jarrow–Morton (HJM) framework provides a universal and efficacious instrument for modeling the stochastic evolution of an entire yield curve by explaining the interest rate dynamics in continuous time under no-arbitrage conditions. Existing implementations involve exponentially weighted function spaces as theoretical settings for the former stochastic evolution. While the choice of weight can have a drastic effect on model calibration and subsequent forecasting, it cannot be estimated from market data and does not allow for any objective interpretation.
