Implementing A Risk-Stratified Fall Prevention Bundle To Reduce Inpatient Falls,, Nana A. Tabiri Oct 2026

Implementing A Risk-Stratified Fall Prevention Bundle To Reduce Inpatient Falls,, Nana A. Tabiri

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: The Step-Down Unit (SDU) had a high fall rate of 4.8 falls/ 1,000 patient days, falling short of the 3.0 falls/1,000 patient days organizational target. Despite the high fall rate, the unit used a one-size-fits-all approach, which was ineffective. Also, nursing practices in the unit were unevenly adopted.

Project Objective: The project aimed to lower the fall rate in SDU by 10% and increase compliance with risk-stratified documentation to at least 90%.

Evidence Review: A huge pool of evidence supported the adoption of a multifactorial, person-centered fall prevention approach as opposed to universal precautions. The AHRQ …

Enhancing Suicide Risk Assessment Using The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale, Elizabeth Gyang Oct 2026

Enhancing Suicide Risk Assessment Using The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale, Elizabeth Gyang

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: Suicide risk assessment is a critical component of mental health care; however, inconsistent use of standardized assessment methods can lead to variability in risk identification and clinical decision-making. At the outpatient mental health project site, standardized use of the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) had not been established, indicating a practice gap.

Aim of the Project: The goal of the 12-week Quality Improvement (QI) project was to improve nursing staff knowledge, skills, competence and organizational readiness for standardized suicide risk assessment through structured C-SSRS education and implementation support.

Review of the Evidence: The C-SSRS is a standardized tool with …

Improving Screening And Referral Of Adolescent Depression In Pediatric Primary Care, Eleanor Shaw Oct 2026

Improving Screening And Referral Of Adolescent Depression In Pediatric Primary Care, Eleanor Shaw

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: A practice gap existed in a rural primary care clinic where adolescents aged 12–18 years were not routinely screened for depression during annual well-child visits. A retrospective review of 22 adolescent charts identified no routine PHQ-9 screenings during well-child visits, establishing a baseline routine screening rate of 0%.

Aim of the Project: The aim was to implement a standardized Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) screening process and increase routine depression screening to at least 90% of eligible adolescents while achieving documented follow-up within 14 days for at least 85% of adolescents with positive screens.

Review of the Evidence: Evidence supports …

Enhancing Collaboration Through Post-Round Huddles, Kristen Ramirez Oct 2026

Enhancing Collaboration Through Post-Round Huddles, Kristen Ramirez

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: On a 16-bed medically supervised detoxification unit at a northeast Ohio community hospital, the interprofessional team had no consistent, structured way to communicate after physician rounds, fragmenting coordination and threatening patient safety for a complex, co-occurring population. Organizational HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) communication scores fell below the 80% national benchmark, confirming a modifiable, systems-level concern.

Aim of the Project: The quality improvement (QI) project aimed to enhance care quality and coordination by standardizing a shared plan of care across the interprofessional team.

Review of the Evidence: A systematic search retained 12 …

Professional Development For Out-Of-School-Time Educators: A Design Case, Marc T. Sager, Karen Pierce Oct 2026

Professional Development For Out-Of-School-Time Educators: A Design Case, Marc T. Sager, Karen Pierce

Publications

This design case describes our team’s development of Learning, Educating, and Developing Out-of-School Teaching (LEAD OST), an online professional development program addressing the training gap experienced by out-of-school-time (OST) educators. Drawing on sociocultural learning, informal learning, and experiential learning theories, we designed a fully asynchronous, modular program intended to provide practice-integrated professional development suited to the scheduling constraints, geographic dispersion, and resource limitations common in OST settings. In this case, we describe how we integrated these three theoretical frameworks into specific design decisions, module structures, and assessment strategies, and how the constraints we worked within- a limited-hours format, a fixed …

Dei Impact: A Radically Simplified Approach For Organizations, Tessa L. Dover, Claudia Toma, Fransika Krings Oct 2026

Dei Impact: A Radically Simplified Approach For Organizations, Tessa L. Dover, Claudia Toma, Fransika Krings

Psychology Faculty Publications and Presentations

This chapter introduces a radically simplified approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practice in organizations. DEI Impact is defined as an equitable reduction in disparities between employees from advantaged and disadvantaged groups. We argue that organizations should pursue DEI Impact as the primary—or even sole—goal of their DEI practice. We outline four steps to achieving DEI Impact: (1) Identifying the disparity, (2) Operationalizing DEI Impact, (3) Implementing policies/practices aimed at the disparity, and (4) Measuring impact and adjusting. This iterative design process is flexible to the specific needs of a given organization in a given cultural/political context. Importantly, it …

Empire By Gaslight, Christina D. Ponsa-Kraus Oct 2026

Empire By Gaslight, Christina D. Ponsa-Kraus

Cardozo Law Review

This Article argues that the constitutional law of U.S. colonialism as it applies to Puerto Rico should be understood as a form of collective gaslighting. The United States has been gaslighting Puerto Ricans for a century-and-a-quarter. By defining their constitutional status as a series of contradictions—starting with defining Puerto Rico as “foreign,” but only in a “domestic sense”—the federal government has caused Puerto Ricans to question their capacity to judge their own reality, thereby solidifying U.S. power over the island and undermining Puerto Rican resistance. Not only has the United States been gaslighting Puerto Ricans since annexation, but it has …

The Role Of Reliance In Stare Decisis Doctrine, Rochelle Hestnas Oct 2026

The Role Of Reliance In Stare Decisis Doctrine, Rochelle Hestnas

Fordham Law Review

The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent treatment of reliance interests in stare decisis doctrine is in flux. The Court has overruled long-standing precedent such as Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey with scant analysis as to how reliance interests factor into stare decisis doctrine, despite continuing to name reliance as a factor that should be considered. Arguments for whether and how reliance interests deserve protection are inherently challenging because it cannot be the case that every precedent should stand. Using Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization as a case study, this Note analyzes the Court’s claim …

The Alien Enemies Act Of 1798, Andrew Kent Oct 2026

The Alien Enemies Act Of 1798, Andrew Kent

Fordham Law Review

For the first time since World War II—and for the first time ever outside a formally declared war—an American president has invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to detain and deport noncitizens. Enacted during the Quasi-War with France, the Act’s operative language remains largely unchanged today. In March 2025, President Donald J. Trump proclaimed that members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua present in the United States are “alien enemies,” asserting that their activities, allegedly coordinated with President Nicolás Maduro’s government, constitute an “invasion” or “predatory incursion” within the meaning of the statute. Litigation challenging the invocation of …

The Mirage Of Meta Pixel Code: Redefining Pii In The Era Of Generative Ai, Sophie Venter Oct 2026

The Mirage Of Meta Pixel Code: Redefining Pii In The Era Of Generative Ai, Sophie Venter

Fordham Law Review

Data privacy laws are intended to put consumers in control of whether their identifying data can be sold and used for targeted advertising. However, these laws do not provide adequate protections in the era of generative artificial intelligence (AI). This Note examines one way that existing privacy law permits companies to profit from selling data for targeted advertising without obtaining user consent: transferring video watching data in a pixel code. Some U.S. Courts of Appeals have determined that these data transfers do not sufficiently identify users and the videos they watched to constitute violations of user privacy. This has led …

On Stage: Startling Visibility, Operatic Drama, And George Tooker’S Un Ballo In Maschera, Alex Del Dago Oct 2026

On Stage: Startling Visibility, Operatic Drama, And George Tooker’S Un Ballo In Maschera, Alex Del Dago

Art Inquiries

As a part of its centennial advertising campaign, the Metropolitan Opera in New York commissioned the American figurative painter George Tooker (1920-2011) to create a fine art image inspired after Giuseppe Verdi’s 1859 opera, Un Ballo in Maschera. Within the artist's composition, themes around masquerading, skepticism, and surveillance arise, all of which are common threads within both Tooker’s and Verdi’s work. Primary questions that can be asked from looking at this type of subject matter include: who is truthfully themselves, who may be someone other than they initially say they are, and most importantly, how does the ambiguity of gendered …

Arabic Clinical Mental Health Named Entity Recognition Via Distant Supervision: Recurrent Vs. Transformer-Based Architectures, Ali A. Jalil, Rabih Sbera Oct 2026

Arabic Clinical Mental Health Named Entity Recognition Via Distant Supervision: Recurrent Vs. Transformer-Based Architectures, Ali A. Jalil, Rabih Sbera

Polytechnic Journal

Arabic Natural Language Processing (NLP) has made great strides, but the accurate extraction of mental state and physiological symptoms from patient-generated clinical consultations in dialectal Arabic, which is plagued with significant morphological complexity, colloquial noise and an extremely limited number of manually annotated clinical benchmarks, remains a significant challenge. In this work, we propose an end-to-end token-level symptom extraction system that is systematic and grounded in distant supervision paradigm and a strict gold standard evaluation with human verification to ensure real-world clinical generalization. A large weakly labelled corpus of 46,873 Arabic patient questions was created based on a clinical lexicon …

Training Apart, Together: Team Dynamics In Individual Sports And Surgical Residency, W. Jack Palmer, Dylan Bertoni, Elizabeth E. Cottrill, Colin T. Huntley

Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Faculty Papers

Surgeons in training share notable parallels with competitive athletes, including rigorous training, skill specialization, and functioning under pressure. Surgical educators have leveraged this comparison, incorporating techniques from sports psychology, such as mental imagery and mindfulness, to improve trainees' individual performance and well-being. Surgical trainees and athletes both rely on effective teamwork for optimal outcomes, suggesting that residency leaders can glean valuable team-level insights from sports psychology. This article examines how the structure of surgical residency influences team dynamics, using concepts from sports psychology to identify evidence-based strategies for improving program cohesion and resident well-being. The surgical literature typically conceptualizes surgery …

Intersections Of Religion, Race, And Feminism With A Progressive Politic, Amanda D. Hernandez, Tess Starman Phd Oct 2026

Intersections Of Religion, Race, And Feminism With A Progressive Politic, Amanda D. Hernandez, Tess Starman Phd

Sociology: Faculty Publications

Public perceptions of feminism often posit religion as antithetical to the movement, despite many Christian women who identify as feminist. Previous scholarship has studied the ways that race and ethnicity have shaped how individuals conceptualize feminism. This study brings religious affiliation into the equation, specifically among Christian women in the United States. Do women who identify as Christian feminists have more “progressive” stances on social issues than Christian women who do not identify as feminist? Through a quantitative analysis of the 2021 Values and Beliefs of the American Public Survey, this study shows the differential moderating effect of two variables: …

The Aesthetics Of Violation: Visual Rhetoric And The Ethics Of Spectatorship In Venetian Ovidian Painting, Khira Rudolph Oct 2026

The Aesthetics Of Violation: Visual Rhetoric And The Ethics Of Spectatorship In Venetian Ovidian Painting, Khira Rudolph

Theses

In this thesis, we will consider how 16th-century Venetian painters used sophisticated visual methods, colorito, glowing atmospheric glazes, serpentine lines and spatial buffering to camouflage the physical violence of Ovidian abduction stories. Most historical art literature in the past has hailed high Renaissance masters Titian and Paolo Veronese as technical bravura, lyrical colorism and visual appeal in the face of social and emotional tragedy in their work on canvas. In comparing Titian’s The Rape of Europa, Paolo Veronese’s The Rape of Europa, Paolo Veronese’s circle Scene from the Metamorphoses of Ovid: The Rape of Proserpine and Rembrandt …

Sanctified Rhythms Of Rest: Reclaiming Sabbath And Spiritual Retreat For Pastoral Renewal And Burnout Mitigation In The Georgia Assemblies Of God, Philip Sosebee Oct 2026

Sanctified Rhythms Of Rest: Reclaiming Sabbath And Spiritual Retreat For Pastoral Renewal And Burnout Mitigation In The Georgia Assemblies Of God, Philip Sosebee

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)

“Sanctified Rhythms of Rest: Reclaiming Sabbath and Spiritual Retreat for Pastoral Renewal and Burnout Mitigation in the Georgia Assemblies of God” explored how intentional rhythms of Sabbath observance, solitude and silence, and spiritual retreat shaped the lived experiences of credentialed ministers within the Georgia District of the Assemblies of God. Pastoral burnout, emotional exhaustion, and unsustainable ministry expectations continue to affect ministers across denominational contexts, raising questions regarding the role of biblically grounded rhythms of rest in fostering pastoral renewal and sustainability. Using a six-month longitudinal hermeneutic phenomenological design, twenty-nine credentialed ministers participated in the intentional practice of weekly Sabbath …

The Quest For Sacred Truth In A Secular Society What Is Fueling Gen Z’S Return To Faith And Church Attendance In America?, William W. Dornbush

Doctor of Ministry (DMin)

This dissertation investigated the Critical Research Question: What are the key external factors influencing Generation Z’s internal quest for spiritual renewal? The study examined biblical, historical, and contemporary revival movements, including the Exodus, Pentecost, the Great Awakenings, the Jesus Movement, Charismatic Renewal, Brownsville, Toronto, and Asbury, to identify recurring patterns linking external pressures to spiritual awakening. Using a qualitative design, the study conducted semi-structured interviews with twelve Generation Z participants who experienced spiritual searching, renewal, or a deepened faith between 2020 and 2025, exploring how contemporary external pressures influence spiritual openness and transformation. The findings revealed six major themes: (1) …

Women's Empowerment And Transformations In Marriage Formation And Dissolution: From Social Anxiety To Evidence-Based And More Responsive Policies, Hoda Rashad, Mohamed Hassan

Faculty Journal Articles

The central premise of this policy brief is that effective family policy in Egypt cannot be built on public perceptions, ideological assumptions or isolated demographic indicators. It must instead be grounded in robust evidence and a comprehensive understanding of the changing mechanisms through which women form, sustain and dissolve marital unions.

The study provides evidence-based findings that are inconsistent with the crisis and anxiety mode dominating the public discourse. The findings neither dismiss the public concerns nor support their dominant framing. Delays in marriage, the growing visibility of never married and divorced women, and the increasing occurrence of divorce represent …

Lung Cancer Mortality In Malaysia Through Mortality Dynamics Models, Suraya Fadilah Ramli, Norkhairunnisa Redzwan, Azizi Yahaya, Juliana Martika Mansor

Malaysian Journal of Computing (MJoC)

Over the last several decades, lung cancer remains one of the most frequent causes of cancer mortality across the world with significant implications for public health planning. Accurate forecast of the mortality rate and life expectancy is necessary for guiding health care resources. This research aims to analyze the historical trend in lung cancer mortality rates, evaluate and compare the accuracy of the three mortality forecasting models; Lee Carter, Age Period Cohort (APC) and Cairns-Blake-Dowd (CBD), forecast lung cancer mortality rate from 2021 to 2031 and compute life expectancy at birth. The lung cancer mortality data for Malaysia covering from …
