Dipl 6000 Na/Wb Introduction To International Relations Theory And Diplomacy, Brian Muzas Ph.D. Oct 2026

Dipl 6000 Na/Wb Introduction To International Relations Theory And Diplomacy, Brian Muzas Ph.D.

Diplomacy Syllabi

This course introduces students to the major theoretical traditions of international relations and diplomacy, with particular attention to how these theories help us understand contemporary challenges including cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, technological disruption, and ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Asia. We will begin with a critical investigation of the competing assumptions and concepts that form the heart of various theoretical approaches to the study of world politics. As a class we will grapple with the key actors, processes, and variables highlighted by each theory, and assess their relative strengths and weaknesses in explaining both traditional interstate relations …

Dipl 4185 Aa Foreign Policies Of Post-Soviet States, Margarita M. Balmaceda Ph.D.

Diplomacy Syllabi

Russia’s full scale war on Ukraine presents key challenges to the international community. It is impossible to approach these challenges without a broader view of the sources of foreign policy in the former Soviet area. This course will survey the main issues in the history of Soviet relations with the foreign world, as well as the new foreign policies of Russia, the other Soviet successor states, and (to a lesser extent) the East and Central European states. The first part of the course explores topics such as longstanding sources of Russian and Soviet policies pre-dating 1917, the tensions between the …

Prevalence And Patterns Of Social Isolation And Loneliness Among Older Adults In Singapore, Yi Wen Tan, Le Ha Linh Phan, Emi Loh, Rachel Wen Yi Ngu Oct 2026

Prevalence And Patterns Of Social Isolation And Loneliness Among Older Adults In Singapore, Yi Wen Tan, Le Ha Linh Phan, Emi Loh, Rachel Wen Yi Ngu

ROSA Research Briefs

As Singapore rapidly transitions into a super-aged society (Lau, 2024), social isolation and loneliness have become growing concerns among academics, policymakers, and social service professionals alike (A. Chan et al., 2023; Fang & Tan, 2023; Shafeeq, 2025). News reports in 2025 highlight an increase in helpline calls from older adults seeking help for their loneliness and emotional distress (Shafeeq, 2025). The prevalence of socially isolated elderly living alone is projected to increase fourfold between 2020 and 2060 (Ng et al., 2020), highlighting the urgency and relevance of addressing this social issue.

Unlocking The Potential Of A Superaged Singapore, Yi Wen Tan, Emi Loh, Wensi Lim, Kaung Htet Tun Salai

ROSA Research Briefs

As Singapore enters a new era of longevity, our focus must shift from preparing for longer lives to unlocking their full potential as a societal advantage. This means going beyond adding years to life to ensuring that those years are lived in good health, with meaningful connections and a sense of purpose. Building a longevity-ready society will require communities and institutions alike to adapt, innovate, and create environments where older adults can continue to contribute and participate fully in society. Through research and collaboration, ROSA is committed to advancing knowledge and developing solutions that help Singapore realise the opportunities of …

Work Motivations And Upskilling Preference Among Singapore's Older Adults, Le Ha Linh Phan, Wensi Lim, Emi Loh, Cassandra Ng, Shania Go Oct 2026

Work Motivations And Upskilling Preference Among Singapore's Older Adults, Le Ha Linh Phan, Wensi Lim, Emi Loh, Cassandra Ng, Shania Go

ROSA Research Briefs

Singapore's rapidly ageing population and rising life expectancy are reshaping traditional ideas about work, retirement, and learning across the life course. By 2030, around one in four Singapore citizens will be aged 65 and above, reflecting the country's changing demographic structure and increasing longevity (National Population and Talent Division, 2025). As working lives extend, older adults are increasingly navigating a transitional stage between peak career years and later-life retirement, often continuing to remain economically active while simultaneously managing competing priorities such as financial responsibilities, caregiving, health, personal fulfilment, and retirement planning.

Exploring The Placebo Effect On The Cortisol Stress Response, Enza Zeppegno-Mendonca, Olivia Huynh, Povheng Yam, Amanda Hahn Oct 2026

Exploring The Placebo Effect On The Cortisol Stress Response, Enza Zeppegno-Mendonca, Olivia Huynh, Povheng Yam, Amanda Hahn

IdeaFest 2026

The placebo effect is well-studied on pain perception, but not many studies have examined the placebo effect on stress. The current study explores whether a deceptive stress‑reducing tincture (filled with water) influences participants’ cortisol responses and self‑reported stress while undergoing a modified acute stress task: the Sing-a-Song Stress Test (SSST). Given the rise of mental health concerns and misuse of medication, this area of research may provide new directions for developing treatments that incorporate the placebo effect, which may enhance treatment outcomes.

Cultivating A Culture Of Gratitude Among Library Co-Workers, Jessica Garner, Kay Coates Oct 2026

Cultivating A Culture Of Gratitude Among Library Co-Workers, Jessica Garner, Kay Coates

University Libraries: Faculty Presentations

Libraries face challenges in retaining skilled library professionals while maintaining high morale. Conventional dependence on impression managementwhere workers adjust their outward actions to align with perceived expectations often lead to superficial compliance instead of genuine engagement.Shifting this paradigm towards systematic gratitude practices, strengths‐based recognition, and intentional well-being support fosters an authenticworkplace culture that directly enhances job satisfaction and retention.Research supports this approach through the Gratitude Questionnaire-6 (GQ-6), which is a validated six-item scale using 7-point Likert response tomeasure and encourage such activities. Gratitude interventions and appreciative inquiry practices that include peer‐to‐peer thank‐you notes, monthlyrecognition forums, and digital “shout‐outs,” communicate that …

Radical Candor For An Intergenerational Workforce: Feedback Without Friction, R. A. Spencer, Kay Coates, Jessica Garner

University Libraries: Faculty Presentations

By cultivating psychological safety and authenticity, Radical Candor builds mutual respect among colleagues and promotes honest communication, inclusive decision-making, and productive teamwork. We will cover strategies for embedding these norms into regular practices such as onboarding, performance conversations, project debriefs, and staff meetings within the multigenerational library workforce. When paired with training in cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence, Radical Candor reframes feedback as a development tool rather than criticism. With role-plays, coaching, and followup support, the framework helps staff interpret feedback constructively, adapt communication styles, and leverage diverse strengths—so every team member can learn, contribute, and thrive. Our goal is …

Glycemia Regulation In Type 1 Diabetes Using Artificial Pancreas Systems: One Decade Review Of Positive Control Approaches, Luay Thamir Rasheed, Ahmed Sabah Al-Araji, Taghreed Mohammadridha Oct 2026

Glycemia Regulation In Type 1 Diabetes Using Artificial Pancreas Systems: One Decade Review Of Positive Control Approaches, Luay Thamir Rasheed, Ahmed Sabah Al-Araji, Taghreed Mohammadridha

Iraqi Journal of Computers, Communications, Control and Systems Engineering

An artificial pancreas (AP) is a biomedical device that mimics the natural glucose-regulation process carried out by a healthy pancreas. This device consists of three parts: a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a control algorithm, and an insulin pump. These three parts work together by continuously monitoring blood glucose concentration (BGC) and adjusting insulin delivery to maintain normoglycemia while minimizing the occurrence of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. While several review studies have addressed control strategies for AP systems, limited attention has been given to the fundamental positivity constraint of insulin delivery and its systematic impact on controller design and performance. This paper …

Recovery And Resilience Of Survivors Of Sex Trafficking In Nepal, Bishnu Sapkota, Glenn M. Miles, Chitra B. Buthathoki Oct 2026

Recovery And Resilience Of Survivors Of Sex Trafficking In Nepal, Bishnu Sapkota, Glenn M. Miles, Chitra B. Buthathoki

Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence

This exploratory qualitative study examines how trafficking survivors in Nepalese rehabilitation centres perceive recovery and experience resilience within Nepal's specific socio-cultural context. This qualitative study employed in-depth interviews with six female sex trafficking survivors in Bagmati Province rehabilitation centres and analysed them through Bronfenbrenner's socio-ecological framework under the themes such as Hindu purity concepts, caste discrimination, joint family dynamics, and non-governmental organization dependency which shape their recovery experiences. The findings of the study reveal recovery as gradual emotional stabilization and future orientation rather than complete healing. Survivors describe stigma in terms of religious purity/pollution binary, with Dalit participants experiencing compounded …

In The Shadow Of The Ballot: Children As Victims Of Zimbabwe's 2008 Election Violence, Baldwin Hove, Chitja Twala, Bekithemba Dube Oct 2026

In The Shadow Of The Ballot: Children As Victims Of Zimbabwe's 2008 Election Violence, Baldwin Hove, Chitja Twala, Bekithemba Dube

Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence

The year 2008 witnessed one of the most violent electoral processes in Zimbabwean history. While extensive research has examined the 2008 election violence, limited scholarly attention has been paid to its effects on children. Using the structural violence framework, this study examines how the 2008 electoral violence affected children in Zimbabwe. The study analysed media reports and secondary texts, complemented by retrospective observations, to explore children's experiences during the electoral crisis. It seeks to expose the less examined consequences of political violence on children. The findings reveal that children witnessed assaults, murder, rape, forced displacement, the destruction of homes and …

The End Of Shopping, Mark Bartholomew, Samuel I. Becher Oct 2026

The End Of Shopping, Mark Bartholomew, Samuel I. Becher

William & Mary Law Review

Self-acting “shopping agents” are no longer science fiction. Deployed by major platforms like Google, Amazon, and Walmart, AI systems are evolving from passive advisors to autonomous decision makers capable of opening accounts, canceling subscriptions, and finalizing purchases without human oversight. Though AI shopping agents have the potential to improve consumer satisfaction and marketplace competition, shopping agents come with attendant risks. By foregrounding shopping’s overlooked economic, psychological, and cultural stakes, we reframe the rise of AI shopping agents as a critical challenge for the law and society, rather than a mere evolution in retail convenience. Drawing on sociology, marketing, and behavioral …

Deferring Legal Adulthood, Cassandra Burke Robertson Oct 2026

Deferring Legal Adulthood, Cassandra Burke Robertson

William & Mary Law Review

“Happy 18th birthday! Now sign this power of attorney.” Parents of college-bound children are increasingly being coached to say this to their newly adult children, urged on by influencers and affiliate marketers in Facebook groups for parents whose children are heading off to college. Companies market document packages— including a FERPA waiver, a HIPAA authorization, and healthcare and financial powers of attorney—warning that without these documents, parents will be legally shut out of their child’s life the moment the child turns eighteen. The document package is relatively inexpensive and designed to be executed without a lawyer. Parents are urged to …

Strengthening Post-Fall Huddle Practices In Long-Term Care, Janette Perry Oct 2026

Strengthening Post-Fall Huddle Practices In Long-Term Care, Janette Perry

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: High resident fall rates and repeat falls caused by an unreliable nurse-only post-fall huddle (PFH) process that lacked structure, interdisciplinary participation, and timely root-cause analysis.

Aim of the Project: To reduce falls and fall-related injuries in long-term care units by implementing a standardized, evidence-based PFH workflow that strengthens root-cause analysis, improves interdisciplinary communication, and increases PFH reliability.

Review of the Evidence: Evidence from fourteen high-quality, peer-reviewed studies demonstrates that structured, interdisciplinary post-fall huddles are more effective than informal, nurse-only approaches in improving fall analysis and reducing repeat falls in long-term care settings. Structured PFHs strengthen root-cause analysis; interdisciplinary participation …

Analysis Of The Deborah Sampson Act Of 2020: Improving Women Veterans’ Care, Jessica N. Shipp Oct 2026

Analysis Of The Deborah Sampson Act Of 2020: Improving Women Veterans’ Care, Jessica N. Shipp

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: Women Veterans are one of the fastest-growing populations served by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), yet gaps persist in access to gender-responsive, trauma-informed care. Despite requirements established by the Deborah Sampson Act (DSA) of 2020, implementation remains inconsistent in Women's Health Primary Care Provider (WH-PCP) access, women's mental health (MH) services, military sexual trauma (MST) care, workforce capacity, care coordination, and accountability.

Aim of the Project: The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness, feasibility, equity, and implementation fidelity of the DSA using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Policy Analytical Framework (POLARIS) and identify evidence-based recommendations to …

Improving Outcomes Through Early Management Of Pre-Eclampsia Risk Factors, Ada Licin-Odnez Oct 2026

Improving Outcomes Through Early Management Of Pre-Eclampsia Risk Factors, Ada Licin-Odnez

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: Pre-eclampsia is a serious pregnancy condition characterized by high blood pressure and proteinuria, typically occurring after 20 weeks. Pre-eclampsia affects 2–8% of pregnancies globally. Early detection and proper care are essential. The OBGYN clinic reports a 20% rate among high-risk patients, significantly higher than the national 5–8%, attributed to limited education, poor care coordination, and inadequate postpartum support. A medication-only approach without proper education has not effectively reduced the rates.

Aim of the Project: The overarching aim of the Quality Improvement project was to improve maternal and infant outcomes by managing pre-eclampsia risk factors. The QI project reduced the …

Implementing A Risk-Stratified Fall Prevention Bundle To Reduce Inpatient Falls,, Nana A. Tabiri Oct 2026

Implementing A Risk-Stratified Fall Prevention Bundle To Reduce Inpatient Falls,, Nana A. Tabiri

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: The Step-Down Unit (SDU) had a high fall rate of 4.8 falls/ 1,000 patient days, falling short of the 3.0 falls/1,000 patient days organizational target. Despite the high fall rate, the unit used a one-size-fits-all approach, which was ineffective. Also, nursing practices in the unit were unevenly adopted.

Project Objective: The project aimed to lower the fall rate in SDU by 10% and increase compliance with risk-stratified documentation to at least 90%.

Evidence Review: A huge pool of evidence supported the adoption of a multifactorial, person-centered fall prevention approach as opposed to universal precautions. The AHRQ …

Enhancing Suicide Risk Assessment Using The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale, Elizabeth Gyang Oct 2026

Enhancing Suicide Risk Assessment Using The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale, Elizabeth Gyang

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects

Problem: Suicide risk assessment is a critical component of mental health care; however, inconsistent use of standardized assessment methods can lead to variability in risk identification and clinical decision-making. At the outpatient mental health project site, standardized use of the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) had not been established, indicating a practice gap.

Aim of the Project: The goal of the 12-week Quality Improvement (QI) project was to improve nursing staff knowledge, skills, competence and organizational readiness for standardized suicide risk assessment through structured C-SSRS education and implementation support.

Review of the Evidence: The C-SSRS is a standardized tool with …
