Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Objectives: Experiences in early life impact childhood, lifelong flourishing, and overall well-being. Yet a framework to guide promoting and measuring flourishing in early childhood has not emerged. The objective of this study was to identify frameworks and measures related to promoting and assessing early-childhood flourishing (0-5 years) to build on a preexisting, community-informed framework.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted across electronic databases and the gray literature for articles published between 2014-2026. Of 13 902 total references, 8592 were eligible for screening. A machine learning-assisted tool (Research Screener) was used to streamline screening of the abstracts against the inclusion criteria. …
Barriers To Veterans Affairs (Va) Healthcare Utilization: Exploring The Underutilization Of Va Healthcare Services Among Rural, West Texas Veterans, Adam G. Rodgers
Barriers To Veterans Affairs (Va) Healthcare Utilization: Exploring The Underutilization Of Va Healthcare Services Among Rural, West Texas Veterans, Adam G. Rodgers
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Rural veterans forgo Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare at disproportionate rates, and this study found that the primary barrier is not enrollment but utilization. Seven of the eight participants were already enrolled yet remained functionally outside the system. The purpose of this qualitative single-case study was to explore why rural West Texas veterans forgo and underutilize Veterans Health Administration (VHA) healthcare. Two research questions examined the perceptions contributing to that decision and the barriers preventing access. Andersen’s behavioral model of health services use provided the framework. Semistructured virtual interviews with eight rural West Texas veterans were analyzed using Braun …
The Role Of Hardiness On Leadership In Big-Box Retail Managers, Cari Alvarez
The Role Of Hardiness On Leadership In Big-Box Retail Managers, Cari Alvarez
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Retail managers face constant customer demands, unpredictable staffing, and high-pressure performance expectations, yet little research has examined how these leaders sustain effectiveness under such conditions. This qualitative descriptive study explored how big-box retail managers in the United States described their development and use of hardiness across the constructs of control, commitment, and challenge to lead in a complex retail environment, an area not previously examined in the literature. Hardiness theory served as the theoretical framework for the study. Data were collected through 12 semistructured interviews with retail managers and an online questionnaire completed by 45 qualifying respondents. Interview data were …

Mutual Respect And Reciprocal Trust On Proactive Engagement In Construction Team Relationships, Brent Greuter
PhD in Organizational Leadership
The coordination of complex work among diverse project stakeholders in multifamily construction depends on interpersonal relationships. This quantitative, nonexperimental study examined whether mutual respect and reciprocal trust influence proactive engagement in the relationships among personnel working in the U.S. multifamily construction industry. Leader–member exchange theory provided the primary theoretical framework. Data from 144 participants were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression. Workplace respect was represented by coworker respectful workplace climate, perceived workplace respect, and experienced workplace mistreatment; reciprocal trust comprised integrity, competency, benevolence, and commitment; and proactive engagement comprised vigor, dedication, …

Approaching Chinese Art Songs: A Mandarin Diction Guide For English-Speaking Singers, Tianming Qi
Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones
This article presents a graded Mandarin diction guide for English-speaking singers studying Chinese art song. Responding to the limited availability of Mandarin diction resources organized by level, it examines Qing Zhu’s “The Great River Goes East,” Yuanren Zhao’s “How Can I Not Think of Him?,” and Yong Chen’s “Love of the Sea” as beginning, intermediate, and advanced case studies. The analysis considers initials, finals, lexical tones, tone-sandhi, syllable structure, text density, and their coordination with rhythm, legato, and melodic phrasing. The study shows that diction difficulty arises not from isolated sounds but from the concentration and interaction of these features …

Cultivating A Culture Of Gratitude Among Library Co-Workers, Jessica Garner, Kay Coates
Cultivating A Culture Of Gratitude Among Library Co-Workers, Jessica Garner, Kay Coates
University Libraries: Faculty Presentations
Libraries face challenges in retaining skilled library professionals while maintaining high morale. Conventional dependence on impression managementwhere workers adjust their outward actions to align with perceived expectations often lead to superficial compliance instead of genuine engagement.Shifting this paradigm towards systematic gratitude practices, strengths‐based recognition, and intentional well-being support fosters an authenticworkplace culture that directly enhances job satisfaction and retention.Research supports this approach through the Gratitude Questionnaire-6 (GQ-6), which is a validated six-item scale using 7-point Likert response tomeasure and encourage such activities. Gratitude interventions and appreciative inquiry practices that include peer‐to‐peer thank‐you notes, monthlyrecognition forums, and digital “shout‐outs,” communicate that …

By cultivating psychological safety and authenticity, Radical Candor builds mutual respect among colleagues and promotes honest communication, inclusive decision-making, and productive teamwork. We will cover strategies for embedding these norms into regular practices such as onboarding, performance conversations, project debriefs, and staff meetings within the multigenerational library workforce. When paired with training in cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence, Radical Candor reframes feedback as a development tool rather than criticism. With role-plays, coaching, and followup support, the framework helps staff interpret feedback constructively, adapt communication styles, and leverage diverse strengths—so every team member can learn, contribute, and thrive. Our goal is …
Strengthening Post-Fall Huddle Practices In Long-Term Care, Janette Perry
Strengthening Post-Fall Huddle Practices In Long-Term Care, Janette Perry
All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects
Problem: High resident fall rates and repeat falls caused by an unreliable nurse-only post-fall huddle (PFH) process that lacked structure, interdisciplinary participation, and timely root-cause analysis.
Aim of the Project: To reduce falls and fall-related injuries in long-term care units by implementing a standardized, evidence-based PFH workflow that strengthens root-cause analysis, improves interdisciplinary communication, and increases PFH reliability.
Review of the Evidence: Evidence from fourteen high-quality, peer-reviewed studies demonstrates that structured, interdisciplinary post-fall huddles are more effective than informal, nurse-only approaches in improving fall analysis and reducing repeat falls in long-term care settings. Structured PFHs strengthen root-cause analysis; interdisciplinary participation …

All Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Scholarly Projects
Problem: Women Veterans are one of the fastest-growing populations served by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), yet gaps persist in access to gender-responsive, trauma-informed care. Despite requirements established by the Deborah Sampson Act (DSA) of 2020, implementation remains inconsistent in Women's Health Primary Care Provider (WH-PCP) access, women's mental health (MH) services, military sexual trauma (MST) care, workforce capacity, care coordination, and accountability.
Aim of the Project: The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness, feasibility, equity, and implementation fidelity of the DSA using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Policy Analytical Framework (POLARIS) and identify evidence-based recommendations to …

When Going Alone Feels Right: The Effect Of Solo Cues On Interest In Attending Cultural Events, Inyoung Lee, Sang-Hoon Kim
When Going Alone Feels Right: The Effect Of Solo Cues On Interest In Attending Cultural Events, Inyoung Lee, Sang-Hoon Kim
Asia Marketing Journal
With the rise of solo consumers, cultural event marketers face a challenge: how can events appeal to solo consumers without marginalizing group consumers? To address this question, the impact of solo cues in marketing communication is examined through the lens of role and script theory. Two experiments demonstrate that solo cues, which signal the inclusion of solo consumers among attendees, increase solo consumers' attendance interest but do not affect group consumers. For solo consumers, the impact of solo cues is driven by anticipated enjoyment and is particularly pronounced for events entailing a high (vs. low) level of social interaction, where …
Bridging The Intention-Behavior Gap In Adopting Zero-Waste Grocery Retail Store, Elizabeth Jacob, Salil Sahadevan
Bridging The Intention-Behavior Gap In Adopting Zero-Waste Grocery Retail Store, Elizabeth Jacob, Salil Sahadevan
Asia Marketing Journal
Growing interest in sustainability within marketing has renewed attention to zero-waste retail, yet it remains largely niche. This study investigates the challenges limiting zero-waste retail adoption and explores consumer expectations through key stakeholder interviews and a large-scale consumer survey in India. Building on earlier work that focused primarily on individual barriers, it incorporates structural factors and the interconnected nature of these obstacles. Adoption of zero-waste shopping practices is constrained by emotional labor, cognitive overload, and systemic friction. Cultural norms favoring convenience and hygiene reinforce disposability, and the lack of conventional packaging creates logistical hurdles. In this connection, the study identifies …
Risk, Benefit, And Trust In Emotionally Intense Services: A Moderated Mediation Model Of Home-Based Palliative Care Adoption In China, Cong Zhuang, Wenfeng Wei, Kyung-Min Kim
Risk, Benefit, And Trust In Emotionally Intense Services: A Moderated Mediation Model Of Home-Based Palliative Care Adoption In China, Cong Zhuang, Wenfeng Wei, Kyung-Min Kim
Asia Marketing Journal
As aging populations expand across Asia, home-based palliative care remains underutilized despite its potential to preserve dignity and emotional well-being. This study examines adoption decisions under emotionally intense uncertainty by testing a moderated mediation model in which perceived risk reduces adoption intention through diminished perceived benefit, and trust conditions the risk–benefit appraisal link. A scenario-based experiment with 400 Chinese participants was analyzed using PROCESS Models 4 and 7 with bias-corrected bootstrapping. Results show that perceived benefit fully mediates the effect of perceived risk on adoption intention. Trust shows evidence of conditioning the association between perceived risk and perceived benefit; however, …
Bright Shadows, Fresh Appeal: How Shadow Brightness Shapes Perceptions Of Fresh Products, Jonghee Kum, Hyewon Cho, Hyejin Lee
Bright Shadows, Fresh Appeal: How Shadow Brightness Shapes Perceptions Of Fresh Products, Jonghee Kum, Hyewon Cho, Hyejin Lee
Asia Marketing Journal
This study examines how shadow brightness (light vs. dark) influences consumer responses to fresh products across four studies. Studies 1a and 1b demonstrate that consumers evaluate fresh products with light shadows more favorably compared to those with dark shadows. Study 2 identifies the underlying mechanism, showing that light shadows increase perceived wholesomeness, which positively affects consumer responses. Study 3 tests a boundary condition, revealing that the positive impact of light (vs. dark) shadows is pronounced for uncooked products but reduced for cooked products. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the influential role of visual elements in shaping consumer …
Smart Tourism Technology And Sustainable Tourism: Creating Vivid Memories To Drive Tourists' Behavioural Intention, Hatane Semuel, Regina Jokom, Trixie Nova Bella Tandijaya, Sienny Thio
Smart Tourism Technology And Sustainable Tourism: Creating Vivid Memories To Drive Tourists' Behavioural Intention, Hatane Semuel, Regina Jokom, Trixie Nova Bella Tandijaya, Sienny Thio
Asia Marketing Journal
This study examines the impact of smart tourism technology and sustainable tourism on tourists' behavioural intention, with vivid memory as a mediating variable. Earlier studies have investigated smart tourism technology and sustainability separately, but there is a lack of understanding of how these two perspectives interact with memory theory to influence tourist behaviour. To address this gap, a survey was conducted involving 742 tourists across four major Indonesian cities, and the data were analysed using path analysis with SmartPLS. The findings show that sustainable tourism directly and indirectly shapes behavioural intention, while smart tourism technology influences it only indirectly through …
The Afterlife Of Luxury: Triggers, Intentions, And Channel Preference In China's Resale Boom, Junfeng Shi, Dehua Xia
The Afterlife Of Luxury: Triggers, Intentions, And Channel Preference In China's Resale Boom, Junfeng Shi, Dehua Xia
Asia Marketing Journal
This study examines the factors shaping Chinese consumers' intention to resell used luxury products and their preferences for resale channels, drawing on the extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Data were collected from 381 consumers via an online survey and analyzed using structural equation modelling with confirmatory factor analysis and regression. Results indicate that the primary motivation for reselling is the lack of need when items are no longer useful or suitable. Consumers' resale intentions are driven mainly by internal factors: attitudes, sense of duty, perceived benefits, and behavioral control, while external factors, such as subjective norms, have minimal impact. …

Jurnal Pendidikan Sains
Critical-thinking skills are essential competencies for students in 21st-century learning. Preliminary classroom observations in Class XI B at SMAN 1 Tojo indicated that instruction remained predominantly teacher-centered and provided limited opportunities for students to engage in activities involving interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. This study aimed to improve students’ critical-thinking skills through the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the immune system topic. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted over two cycles, involving 28 students in Class XI B. Data were collected using a teacher activity observation sheet and critical-thinking skills tests assessing four indicators: interpretation, …

Defining Teacher Envelopment: A Non-Aristotelian Approach To Meta-Practices In The Philosophy Of Teacher Education, Rob Blom
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
The late Jonathan Neufeld argued that redefining teacher development required meta-practices, yet he never defined what these meta-practices were. To define them rigorously requires grounding teacher cultivation practices within coherent structures of truth capable of withstanding philosophical scrutiny—a challenge intensified by post- truth discourse that flattens epistemological depth in secularised educational theory. This paper advances a theory of teacher envelopment to complement conventional teacher development through identifying mindfulness and discernment as foundational meta-practices grounded in non-Aristotelian systems. The framework rests on three interrelated concepts: (1) truth paradigms encompassing contemplative, articulatory, and embodied dimensions; (2) epistemological depth as extensional practices that …

No Mud, No Lotus: Ways To Metabolize Suffering, Heesoon Bai, Heather Williams, Renata Cueto De Souza, Mel Voulgaris, Charles Scott, Anna Rumjahn, Avraham Cohen, Zuzana Vasko Dr.
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
This paper builds on the foundation of mainly Buddhist and existential contemplative philosophies a theoretical and practical framework for understanding and working with suffering as a transformational setting for human development and maturation. The authors propose that the first step in this path of transformation is radical acceptance of suffering as fundamental “truth” about human life, which could re-orient us from the usual mindset of avoidance, denial, dismissal, moralizing, or aggressive elimination of suffering. The next step in this reorientation is seeing suffering as containing valuable “nutrients” for human development and maturation, just as, analogically speaking, mud can grow lotus …
Contemplative Pedagogy, Mindfulness And Reflection In Teacher Education, Karen O. Ragoonaden Dr., Leslie Shayer
Contemplative Pedagogy, Mindfulness And Reflection In Teacher Education, Karen O. Ragoonaden Dr., Leslie Shayer
Journal of Contemplative and Holistic Education
This study explores the intersections of contemplative pedagogy, mindfulness practices and reflection in education. Contemplative pedagogy and mindfulness practices were introduced to three cohorts in teacher education, in graduate education, and in professional development education. This pedagogy and the practices provided a time, a place and a community to engage in personal and professional reflections about teaching and learning. The themes identified in this study demonstrated that engaging in contemplative pedagogy in a nine-week mindfulness course provided increased opportunities to reflect on self-awareness, on wellbeing and on the professional practice of education. The qualitative results of this study indicate that …

Obsessive-Compulsive Subtraits And Self-Agency, Jacob Nelson, Cody Barton, Carissa Phillipi Phd
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is categorized by persistent, unwanted thoughts, called obsessions. and repetitive behaviors, called compulsions. The Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised (OCI-R) is a valid measure of OCD, and breaks the condition into six subtraits: Checking, Hoarding, Obsessing, Ordering, Neutralizing, & Washing. Prior research has suggested that one’s sense of agency, measured through the Sense of Agency Scale (SoAS), is lower in those with higher overall OCI-R scores compared to those with lower scores and controls. Additionally, sub-clinical checking has been negatively correlated with sense of agency, and sub-clinical hoarding and ordering have been positively correlated with sense of agency. However, there …

Patterns Of Violence: Gendered Variations In Reported Abuse In Ex Parte Civil Protection Order Cases, Aimee Yearwood
Undergraduate Research Symposium
A comparative analysis was conducted to assess differences in the types of abuse reported by male and female petitioners in ex parte civil protection order cases. From a dataset of 487 CPO cases filed in 2022 in Minnesota, a sample of 200 cases was utilized, including 100 from male petitioners and 100 from female petitioners. Results indicate that female petitioners report higher levels of psychological/emotional and sexual abuse along with harassment than male petitioners. Also, female petitioners reported slightly higher levels of verbal abuse. There were few notable differences in the reporting of physical abuse, property damage, child abuse/neglect, and …
