Evaluation Of Antioxidant Vitamins (A And C) In Patients With Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Muhammad O. Al-Muhammadi
Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Background: The antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin C functions as the first line antioxidant defense against free oxygen radicals present primarily in the plasma. Examination of antioxidants in patients with tuberculosis may identify deficiencies that predispose to severe oxidant injury. However, our knowledge of the antioxidant profile and its relation to tuberculosis patients is scarce, particularly in developing countries.Aim: This study aims to estimate some vitamins antioxidant ,Vitamin A and C in both male and female patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.Patients and Methods: The present study included 26 patients (14 males and 12 females) affected with pulmonary tuberculosis. …

Al-Qadisiyah Medical Journal
Background : Platelets play an important role in the process of homeostasis, specifically in atherosclerosis formation when low molecular weight lipoprotein deposit in the wall of blood vessels and plaques formation ,this associated with many inflammatory response one of them is Platelet activation subsequent to the adhesion of platelets to the vascular wall results in the release of mediators that promote platelet aggregation. Aim : Statins as most drugs used for treatment hyperlipidemia have multiple effects including anti inflammatory effects , stabilization of plugs and inhibits platelets activation during atherosclerosis of the blood vessels.Materials and Methods : To evaluate the …

This study was aimed to evaluate histopathological changes in experimental rats with induced splenomegaly and liver fibrosis by administering thioacetamid (TAA). Liver fibrosis was clearly noticed in all experimental rats after intraperitoneally injected with a dose (200mg/kg) body weight for 8 weeks ,while control rats injected with buffered saline. The body , spleen and liver weight were recorded , also ratio of liver and spleen per body weight was estimated.Macroscopical changes including (colour, size, congested, signs of fibrosis, irregularity, nature of surface) regarded to liver and spleen were clarified. The livers showed coarse granulation surface, fibrous (white) spots, pale color and …

Pneumococcal pneumonia is more common in the very young and the very old ages. Pneumococci are the most common cause of meningitis in adults. Especially at risk are alcoholics and people with chronic otitis, sinusitis, mastoiditis. We compared the relative efficacy of three methods for the isolation of Streptococcus pneumoniae microorganism in both pneumococcal meningitis and pneumococcal pneumonia in both lower respiratory secretion and cerebrospinal fluid depending on results from total speciemens collected (Cerebrospinal fluid and respiratory secretion). These 100 speciemens were subcultured on different three types of blood agar plates we found that Streptococcus pneumonia was isolated at a …

Cancer progression is a complex multi-step process. Two critical steps in tumor growth and invasion: are the proteolytic processing of the extracellular matrix environment, and the angiogenic switch enabling blood supply into the tumor. Matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) are a group of proteolytic enzymes that degrade components of the extracellular matrix and are implicated in tissue remodeling and tumor infiltration, while Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) inhibit activity of the MMP family and preserve stromal integrity, as a consequence, inhibiting tumor migration. More importantly, the recently documented paradoxical functions of TIMPs have not been characterized in these neoplasms. The aims of …

It has been observed that in a dimicrobic mucosal urinary tract infection . The specific antibody titre of E. coli was higher than that of P. aeruginosa. The interpretation was based on antigenic competition . Hence a case of UTI with combined gram negative infection were chosen and diagnosed as E. coli and P. aeruginosa (Identified by classical tests and API 20E system) . Balanced and unbalanced heat killed E. coli and P. aeruginosa antigens in different combination proportions were made and used for specific immune priming of rabbits. Monotypic heat killed antigens were made and used for priming rabbits …

Materials and methods: 45 patients with positive family history of breast cancer were selected from Al-Diwaniya Teaching Hospital / department of pathology for the study. A control group of 10 healthy subjects were also included. BRCA1 expression was assessed and correlated with age, family history , histological type and grade of breast cancer. …
