Optimising Anti-Seizure Medication Timing Using A Dynamic Network Model Of Seizure Rhythms, Jake Ahern, Udaya Seneviratne, Wendyl D’Souza, Mark J. Cook, John R. Terry

Peninsula Medical School

Epileptic seizures and interictal discharges exhibit robust circadian and multidien rhythms, yet the interaction between these biological cycles and anti-seizure medication (ASM) pharmacology remains poorly understood. Here, we present a dynamical network model that integrates rhythmic fluctuations in cortical excitability with pharmacokinetic properties of common ASMs to explore how treatment timing influences efficacy. The framework embeds a slow, rhythm-generating process directly within the governing equations, allowing seizure-like dynamics to emerge endogenously. We simulated ASMs with a range of distinct half-lives under single-daily and twice-daily dosing schedules. For the short half-life ASM, efficacy depended strongly on the phase of administration, with …

A Robust Convnext-Based Framework For Efficient, Generalizable, And Explainable Brain Tumor Classification On Mri, Kirti Pant, Pijush Kanti Dutta Pramanik, Zhongming Zhao

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Background: Accurate and dependable brain tumor classification from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is essential for clinical decision support, yet remains challenging due to inter-dataset variability, heterogeneous tumor appearances, and limited generalization of many deep learning models. Existing studies often rely on single-dataset evaluation, insufficient statistical validation, or lack interpretability, which restricts their clinical reliability and real-world deployment.

Methods: This study proposes a robust brain tumor classification framework based on the ConvNeXt Base architecture. The model is evaluated across three independent MRI datasets comprising four classes-glioma, meningioma, pituitary tumor, and no tumor. Performance is assessed using class-wise and aggregate metrics, including …

Identification Of Slc3a2 As A Potential Therapeutic Target Of Ferroptosis In Bladder Cancer, Qi Yang, Dewang Zhou, Aaron Beasley, Yujun Liu, Zeqin Yan, Hu Fang, Yuqing Li, Elin S. Gray Jan 2026

Identification Of Slc3a2 As A Potential Therapeutic Target Of Ferroptosis In Bladder Cancer, Qi Yang, Dewang Zhou, Aaron Beasley, Yujun Liu, Zeqin Yan, Hu Fang, Yuqing Li, Elin S. Gray

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Bladder cancer (BC) represents the most prevalent malignancy within the urinary system. Mounting evidence underscores the critical involvement of ferroptosis in cancer pathogenesis; Consequently, this study delves into its molecular underpinnings and therapeutic potential specifically in BC. Methods: We analyzed gene expression profiles from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Gene Expression Om-nibus (GEO) repositories. Ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) were selected from the FerrDb database. Utilizing systematic bioinformatics analyses, we identify differentially expressed and prognostic FRGs and construct an FRGs prognostic model. Combined with protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis, solute carrier family 3 member 2 (SLC3A2) was selected for further study. …

Jurnal Geografi Lingkungan Tropik (Journal of Geography of Tropical Environments)

Geothermal plays an important role in affecting surface water quality with both positive and negative effects. It becomes an efficient renewable energy source in generating electricity without producing harmful gases. However, the presence of geothermal affects the quality of surface water in a watershed. This research is focused on the Mount Salak geothermal area which has volcanic and tectonic activity. Parameters such as electrical conductivity (measured in millisiemens/cm) were used to measure the content of minerals and dissolved compounds in the water. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) measured in ppt is used to quantify dissolved solids, while water acidity (pH) indicates …

Business Communication Barriers In An Export-Oriented Company: A Case Study Of Pt. Xyz, Sartika Ekadyasa, Arius Krypton Jan 2026

Business Communication Barriers In An Export-Oriented Company: A Case Study Of Pt. Xyz, Sartika Ekadyasa, Arius Krypton

Jurnal Administrasi Bisnis Terapan

This study examines business communication barriers faced by PT. XYZ, an export-oriented company engaged in international business cooperation. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review. The findings indicate that business communication is influenced by multiple interrelated barriers, including socio-anthro-psychological, technical, and ecological factors, which affect communication effectiveness during coordination, negotiation, and relationship management with foreign business partners. These barriers shape the quality of mutual understanding, trust, and operational efficiency in cross-border interactions. The study highlights the importance of integrated communication strategies that address social, cultural, psychological, technical, and environmental dimensions …
