Visualizing Borneo Biodiversity And Dayak Cultural Heritage Through Contemporary Innovative Batik Motifs, Kristanti Kristanti

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

Borneo combines exceptional biological diversity with cultural traditions that shape regional identity. This study aims to develop contemporary batik motifs based on selected biological references associated with Borneo and one Dayak cultural reference while documenting the visual transformation process as research knowledge. A practice-based research approach was employed through exploration, design development, realization, expert validation, and revision. The initial exploration included the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), rhinoceros hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), black orchid (Coelogyne pandurata), ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwageri), and pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp.), while the Dayak …

Barriers To Psychological Care: Lived Experiences Of Adults With Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Hovhannes Nazaryan Sep 2026

Barriers To Psychological Care: Lived Experiences Of Adults With Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Hovhannes Nazaryan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Adults with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) may experience significant disability-related stressors, yet mental health services remain underused within this population. Although prior research has identified barriers to service use among individuals with SMA and people with disabilities more broadly, there is less literature about how adults with SMA experience the mental health care system. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore lived experiences of adults living in the United States with SMA as they relate to this system. Guided by the biopsychosocial model and Andersen’s behavioral model, the study involved addressing the question: What are lived experiences …

Phenomenological Study Of Protective Buffering By Afsoc Civilian Spouses During Military Deployments, Janell C. Cotton Sep 2026

Phenomenological Study Of Protective Buffering By Afsoc Civilian Spouses During Military Deployments, Janell C. Cotton

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Protective buffering (PB) is used by civilian military spouses to withhold or deny stressful information or concerns to protect their spouse, others, or themselves, from upset or burden. This coping mechanism is commonly used during military deployments, yet is associated with negative physical, psychological, and social consequences. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study was to explore the lived experience of when and why civilian military spouses engage in PB during military deployments. Guided by the communication privacy management theory and the transactional stress and coping theory, the study examined the civilian spouses’ perceptions of their active-duty spouses’ stressors, and …

Assignment 2, Nafisa Tanjeem

Nafisa Tanjeem, Struggles that Connect Us: From South Africa to Palestine to the United States” - A 14-Day Study Abroad Course in Cape Town, South Africa

This culminating assignment invites students to synthesize their learning from a 14-day study abroad program in Cape Town through a creative project in the form of a zine, poster, or presentation. Grounded in a transnational, decolonial, anti-racist, and feminist framework, students analyze how interconnected systems such as settler colonialism, colonialism, racial capitalism, and neoliberalism operate across South Africa, the United States, and Palestine. The project requires students to integrate experiential learning from site visits with course readings and discussions while also reflecting on their own positionality and ethical responsibilities. By translating complex ideas into accessible visual and narrative formats, students …

Nafisa Tanjeem, Struggles that Connect Us: From South Africa to Palestine to the United States” - A 14-Day Study Abroad Course in Cape Town, South Africa

This course challenges conventional approaches to global engagement and study abroad by integrating decolonial, anti-racist, and feminist lenses with experiential learning to explore how historical and contemporary systems of power, inequity, and resistance operate across borders. It invites students to think beyond national boundaries, evaluate how their own identities and positionalities shape their perspectives and actions, and engage ethically and critically with interconnected struggles.
