Vulnerability Of Elderly Women: Victim Of Gender Discrimination, Subir Kumar Roy
Vulnerability Of Elderly Women: Victim Of Gender Discrimination, Subir Kumar Roy
Hasanuddin Law Review
The life cycle of human being completes with the process of aging but we fail to realize this simple arithmetic of life and often consider our elders as a burden for us. They are compelled to compromise with their dignity and integrity and forced to live at the mercy of their own nearest and dearest. When we talk about elderly women their position is more appalling than their male counterpart due to this male chauvinism which tries to regulate every affair of the life of the people. Under the alibi of protection and security of women they are subjected to …

The reform of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) is necessary to accommodate the noble values of Indonesian society. Therefore, Indonesian criminal law should reflect the basic principles, cultural values that live within the inner niches of Indonesian society as a living law. The inclusion of several forms of obscene acts that exist within the extended Draft Penal Code is a manifestation of the philosophical, sociological and juridical framework of the Indonesian society. The extension of the concept of obscenity in the Draft of Indonesian Penal Code is in accordance with the philosophy of the Indonesian nation that gives religious values …

Comparison Of Wildlife Protection Law Between Indonesia And The United States, Lusi Apriyani, Fahmi Yoesmar Ar, Marta Erwandi
Hasanuddin Law Review
Indonesia is known as one of the richest countries for its biodiversity. Plants, animals, and forest are very diverse in every region in Indonesia. Unfortunately, from time to time the numbers of biodiversity have been decreased along with the development of Indonesia. Nowadays, numbers of Sumatera Tigers and Orang Utan are not more than 400 since they were traded, captured, and killed in the name of economic development. Even wildlife habitat, forest, were converted to non-forestry use. Theoretically, Indonesia has Conser-vation Act which is the Law Number 5 of 1990 on Conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystem in which providing protection …

Hasanuddin Law Review
Since the time Covid-19 was discovered in Southeast Asia, around 2.5 million people have been infected and more than 54 thousand have died by early March 2021. Even though ASEAN members have followed most of the WHO recommendations to deal with Covid-19, cases are still liable to increase. Therefore, vaccine utilization is the best chance which people believe in to fight the pandemic for now. However, the vaccine’s availability and distribution are a dilemma for the ASEAN member countries. Therefore, this article aims to determine the possibility of ASEAN’s role in creating equal access to the Covid-19 vaccine for everyone. …

Indonesia committed to conserving the tuna resources by participating in some RFMOs. From all regional organizations where Indonesia has been joined, the CCSBT is the unique one, due to it governs a single tuna species, which is called Southern Bluefin Tuna. This kind of tuna is essential for Indonesia because it is the world’s most expensive tuna and SBT migrates through Indonesian fisheries management zones and goes even further within the territorial waters, where the SBT spawning area is located. This natural characteristic distinguishes Indonesia from other Parties to CCSBT. Nevertheless, the Country has been dealing with its obligation to …

Novel Multi-Gait Strategy For Stable And Efficient Quadruped Robot Locomotion, Daoxun Zhang, Xieyuanli Chen, Zhengyu Zhong, Ming Xu, Zhiqiang Zheng, Huimin Lu
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Inspired by the natural gait transition mechanism of quadruped animals, a multi-gait motion strategy is proposed to realize the stable and efficient motion of quadruped robots on different terrains in response to the trade-off between motion energy efficiency and motion stability. The gait is defined based on the duty cycle parameters and phase bias to form the switching basis. Secondly, the affine transformation of gait parameters and the finite state machine are introduced to establish the switching sequence, which realizes the timely gait switching. The speed-gait mapping is designed based on the cost of transport (CoT) and the stability …

Plasmodium Berghei Subpellicular Microtubule Protein-1 (Pbspm-1) Is A Microtubule Stabilizing Protein That Affects Schizont Development, Manuel Joseph Widuch
Master's Theses
In eukaryotes, microtubules (MTs) are regulated by microtubule-associated proteins (MAP), only a few of which have been characterized in the malaria parasite to date. Here we present the functional characterization of STOP axonemal protein 1 (SAXO1) of the rodent parasite Plasmodium berghei. The protein exhibits high sequence and organizational conservation to the subpellicular microtubule protein 1 (SPM1) of the apicomplexan parasite Toxoplasma gondii and SAXO1 of Trypanosoma brucei. SAXO1 proteins are conserved in most eukaryotes where they form a protein family. We refer to this protein as PbSPM1. It is a 38 kD protein that is organized into an N-terminal …
Intercountry Adoption In Malaysia And Morocco: A New Frontier, Nadhilah A. Kadir, Azizah Mohd
Intercountry Adoption In Malaysia And Morocco: A New Frontier, Nadhilah A. Kadir, Azizah Mohd
Hasanuddin Law Review
Intercountry adoption offers a family-based care option for children in need of care and protection. It allows them to find loving and permanent homes outside their birth country, providing them with stability, support, and a sense of belonging essential for their well-being. The Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption 1993 (Hague Convention 1993) serves as the primary international legal instrument governing intercountry adoption. Despite its importance, intercountry adoption remains relatively uncommon in Malaysia, as the country lacks specific statutory provisions and is not a signatory to the Hague Convention 1993. The purpose of …
School Psychologists’ Experiences And Roles In Trauma-Informed Practices, Taylor Williamson
School Psychologists’ Experiences And Roles In Trauma-Informed Practices, Taylor Williamson
Dissertations
Due to a wide breadth of training, school psychologists are uniquely qualified to provide indirect and direct services outlined by best practices, such as school-based mental health services, special education evaluations, and trauma-informed practices. Professional standards indicate that school psychologists are equipped to identify trauma response symptoms and provide evidence-based services when supporting students with trauma histories. However, an identified gap between best practices and the present realities of school psychologists' has been identified in the literature. The few studies that explored the experiences of school psychologists endorsed a lack of training and confidence with identifying trauma response symptoms and …
Behavioral Ecology And Physiology Of Spotted Turtles (Clemmys Guttata) In A Fragmented And Polluted Landscape, Jessica Rojas Lindberg
Behavioral Ecology And Physiology Of Spotted Turtles (Clemmys Guttata) In A Fragmented And Polluted Landscape, Jessica Rojas Lindberg
Master's Theses
Turtles are one of the most threatened groups of animals across the globe. This is especially true for freshwater turtles that rely on multiple habitats to fulfill their life history requirements. Wetlands are a crucial habitat type for many freshwater turtle species, and this ecosystem has been susceptible to conversion, fragmentation, and pollution. In turn, these hazards to wetland habitats threaten already declining freshwater turtle populations. The spotted turtle (Clemmys guttata) is a species of freshwater turtle that is particularly at-risk due to life history traits as well as habitat fragmentation and pollution. This study aims to investigate the effects …

Open-Minded Cognition And Transmission Of Norms, Mia Jasmine Martinez
Master's Theses
This research aimed to explore general and general normative open-minded cognition, respectively, as shaped by prominent social figures (i.e., normative referents). The administered survey included two distinct measures in attempt to estimate the amount and/or severity of influence each referent possesses over the participants, GOMC (i.e., General Open-Minded Cognition) and GNORM (i.e., General Open-Minded Cognition as determined by normative standards). The research hypothesized the GNORM of the determinants: Caregivers, Teachers, Community Leaders, and Peers, have a statistically significant affect over both the GOMC and GNORM of the participants, due to the fundamental psychological authority each determinant maintains over the participant …

Renal medullary carcinoma is a rare undifferentiated tumor of the kidney associated with sickle cell trait and characterized by INI1 (SMARCB1) loss. Although metastasis to lungs, lymph nodes, and bone is commonly reported, distant spread to the central nervous system almost never occurs. Here we present an unusual case of a patient with renal medullary carcinoma with metastasis to the brain following treatment which included tazemetostat, an EZH2 inhibitor. The metastatic brain lesion harbored morphologic, immunohistochemical, and methylation profile supportive of a primary CNS phenotype with loss of the trimethylated lysine 27 residue of histone 3 while maintaining INI1 loss …

Sphagnum-dominated bogs are climatically impactful systems that exhibit two puzzling characteristics: CO2:CH4 ratios are greater than those predicted by electron balance models and C decomposition rates are enigmatically slow. We hypothesized that Maillard reactions partially explain both phenomena by increasing apparent CO2 production via eliminative decarboxylation and sequestering bioavailable nitrogen (N). We tested this hypothesis using incubations of sterilized Maillard reactants, and live and sterilized bog peat. Consistent with our hypotheses, CO2 production in the sterilized peat was equivalent to 8–13% of CO2 production in unsterilized peat, and the increased formation of aromatic N compounds decreased N-availability. Numerous sterility assessments …
Critical Legal Reading Of World Anti-Doping Agency’S Gene Doping Guidance, Ahmad Saad Ahmad Al-Dafrawi
Critical Legal Reading Of World Anti-Doping Agency’S Gene Doping Guidance, Ahmad Saad Ahmad Al-Dafrawi
Hasanuddin Law Review
The genetic barrier negatively affected competitive athletic performance until the advent of gene therapy and genetic manipulation, which cast doubt on and impacted the legitimacy of sporting events. At that a critical point, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) interfered in such experimentation and application with a serious attempt to curb the problem and set things back on track with the healthiest standards in light of bioethics. However, the major problem that the agency has encountered and which this legal study wants to raise, and address is the legal consequences that result from the lack of a reliable method that provides …

A Critical Appraisal Of The Right Of Inheritance Of Children Born Out Of Wedlock, Michael Akpa Ajanwachuku
Hasanuddin Law Review
The phenomenon of the so-called bastard children has growth astronomically worldwide. In Nigeria, the rights of children born out of wedlock to inherit their biological fathers who died intestate was wholly dependent on the acknowledgement of paternity. This paper attempts to unravel the recent development in the law of inheritance in Nigeria with respect to children born out of wedlock. It concludes from the review of case laws in Nigeria that there is a significant progressive development of the law in Nigeria. Absent acknowledgement of paternity, children born out of wedlock may now inherit their biological fathers if they can …

The investment law policies have a positive influence on the interests and welfare of all Indonesian people. However, many legal problems arise due to overlapping regulations both at the central and regional government levels, and also in term of the implementation of decentralization. The results show that the arrangement of investment policy in West Papua against the recognition and respect for Papua indigenous people's rights are still limited to universal policies. Nationally, the policy has not clearly revealed how the form of recognition and respect for the rights of indigenous peoples and/or Papuan indigenous peoples rights related to the presence …
