Importance: In recent decades there has been an expansion in the quantity and quality of scientific findings and guidelines on different health topics to promote individual and public health status. Reports also indicate that there has been a simultaneous increase in the financial burden of disease, including trillions spent on healthcare resources by governments worldwide (predominantly in developing countries) to address health concerns. At the same time, personal health behavior is well-known as efficient and cost-free, holding four times the potential to prevent early death compared to health care. Despite this knowledge, data show that the increasing prevalence of unhealthy …

The interpretation of genetic variants in inherited diseases, such as inherited platelet disorders (IPDs), remains a major clinical challenge, as most are classified as variants of uncertain significance (VUSs). A key barrier to functional evaluation is the lack of accessible, lineage-appropriate assays that reliably reflect native gene regulation and cell-specific biology. To address this gap, we developed CRIMSON HD (CRISPR-edited megakaryocytes [MKs] for surveying platelet variant functions through homology-directed repair [HDR]), a CRISPR-Cas9 HDR-based genome-editing platform applicable to CD34

Pattern-recognition receptor (PRR) agonists are valuable agents across multiple medical applications, from vaccinology to immune-oncology. However, well-defined and potent small molecule agonists for many PRRs still await discovery and development. Screening of chemical libraries of ~200,000 small molecules for maturation of human monocytic cells by quantifying NF-κB activation and cell adherence was completed. From this screen, we selected a thiazole benzamide derivative, PVP-057, for its robust immunomodulatory properties, low toxicity profile, and concentration-dependent activity. In vitro investigation of pathway and receptor activation reveals that PVP-057 is a Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) agonist. As a single-component adjuvant, administered intramuscularly or intradermally …

The interplay between brain metabolism and function supports the brain's adaptive capacity in cognitively demanding processes. Prior work has linked glucose metabolism to resting-state fMRI activity, but often overlooks both hemodynamic confounders in the BOLD signal and the brain's dynamic nature. To address this, we employed a novel effective connectivity decomposition, separating symmetric partial covariance, capturing "true" statistical dependencies between regions, from antisymmetric differential covariance, reflecting directional brain flow. In 42 healthy subjects, we show that partial covariance corresponds to metabolic connectivity across regions, while node directionality relates to standardized uptake value ratio, a proxy for local glucose consumption. We …

The study analyzes the water quality of aqueducts in Drenas, Prishtina, Lipjan, and Shtime, Kosovo, in June and August 2024. The parameters assessed include physicochemical properties like color, turbidity, pH, free chlorine, chlorides, conductivity, and metal ions (Fe²⁺, Mn²⁺, Al), alongside biological indicators such as coliform bacteria. The results indicate that most parameters are within acceptable limits, reflecting overall good water quality. However, variations were noted: Prishtina's low chlorine levels may pose microbial risks, and the increased chlorides and conductivity in Lipjan suggest the impact of urban runoff or industrial activities. Seasonal shifts, especially during August, influenced the concentration of …

The Picotesla Protocol: Energy-Matched Neuromorphic Brain–Ai Interface With Quantum-Responsive Event, Samuel Church
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure presents a brain–AI interface architecture that operates under a strict sub-50 W system power envelope to reduce electromagnetic and thermal noise to near-brain levels, enabling event-driven coupling between biological neural surprise events and a neuromorphic spiking system. The system comprises: (i) a brain signal receiver (EEG) with alpha/theta-band feature extraction; (ii) an optional quantum-responsive transducer (e.g., NV-center magnetometer or QRNG correlator) for timing-level sensitivity to picotesla-scale field perturbations; and (iii) an energy-matched neuromorphic processor (e.g., Loihi-class SNN or low-power NPU) that converts biological “surprise” events into discrete spikes with < 40 μs latency and learns via STDP. The disclosure includes enabling details: system diagrams, energy budgets, filtering equations, spike-encoding logic, and experimental protocols (including physically isolated, Faraday-caged conditions) to ensure that the design is reproducible and citable as prior art. This publication is intended as a defensive disclosure to dedicate these concepts to the public domain and prevent later patenting of substantially similar systems

Impact Of Various Laboratory Techniques Upon Accuracy Of Hemoglobin Measurement, Ali Saleem Abdulridha Aridhee
NJF Biomedicine Journal
Introduction: Hemoglobin is one of the most important biological substances in the body, as it is the primary carrier of oxygen to the body's cells. Without this essential element, cells cannot receive oxygen, nor can they remove carbon dioxide. Hemoglobin has many types, one of which is normal, and many diseases are related to the synthesis and types of hemoglobin. These diseases are called anemia, and there are many types of anemia depending on the abnormal type of hemoglobin. The ideal way to diagnose such diseases is by measuring the hemoglobin concentration in the blood. Over the past decades, various …

Betatron x rays generated from laser-wakefield accelerators are a promising source for imaging dynamic processes in materials. Here, we present proof-of-concept imaging of microstructural evolution in a hypermonotectic Al-Bi alloy, which consists of liquid Bi particles in a solid Al matrix. The images capture the elongation and fragmentation of Bi particles upon isothermal annealing. Because of the femtosecond time scale of the betatron source, the images are not subject to motion blur, whereas the accessibility of the source allows for studies of long-term processes such as annealing. The high-resolution data reveal that the evolution of Bi particles is mediated by …

The Chameleon game is a challenging word association activity where players are given a secret word and must respond with words relevant to that secret word. It requires strategic thinking and deduction. The Chameleon must cleverly guess the secret keyword in this game while avoiding suspicion. Our research aims to create an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) model that can play the Chameleon game from both perspectives: as the Chameleon and as a Human. This AI is designed to guess secret keywords based on the information provided by the players, choose the best strategies to avoid detection as the Chameleon, identify …

Droplet-based microfluidics has rapidly advanced numerous fields, including chemistry, biology, materials science, medicine, food science, and cosmetics. In these systems, fluorocarbon oil combined with fluorinated surfactants is the preferred medium for fluid encapsulation, offering exceptional stability and biocompatibility essential for sensitive biological and chemical processes. However, growing concerns about the environmental and biological risks associated with fluorinated chemicals have prompted a search for alternatives.
This study is the first to explore the use of unsaturated fatty acids derived from emu oil for microdroplet formation. We characterized droplet formation based on flow rates and the presence non-fluorinated surfactant at a certain …
