Authentic Relationships Among The Body Of Christ: Naming The Obstacles That Hinder Authentic Relationships And Expressing A Gospel-Centered Path Toward Overcoming Them, Luke J. Anderson

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

Anderson, Luke J. “Authentic Relationships among the Body of Christ: Naming the Obstacles that Hinder Authentic Relationships and Expressing a Gospel-centered Path toward Overcoming Them.” Doctor of Ministry. Major Applied Project, Concordia Seminary, 2025. 157 pp.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, Wisconsin, recently underwent a vision process in which they proposed five values to define their congregational living. One of these values is authentic relationships. Those who crafted this vision, as well as the entire body who adopted it, recognized this value as primarily aspirational in nature. While some relational connectedness existed, all sought to better define this value …

Applying The Pace Framework To Emotional Language Instruction In A Community College Spanish Classroom, Brian Kapustka Dec 2025

Applying The Pace Framework To Emotional Language Instruction In A Community College Spanish Classroom, Brian Kapustka

Faculty and Staff Scholarship

This theory paper examines the PACE instructional framework (Presentation, Attention, Co-construction, Extension) as a principled approach to grammar instruction in communicative Spanish language classrooms. Drawing on sociocognitive second language acquisition (Atkinson, 2011), focus-on-form research (Ellis, 2014; Nassaji & Fotos, 2011), and communicative language teaching (Richards & Rogers, 2014), the paper situates PACE within contemporary SLA theory as a meaning-first, learner-centered pedagogical framework. The analysis emphasizes how PACE supports the development of form–meaning connections through authentic input, collaborative dialogue (Donato, 1994), and communicative extension, while also addressing cognitive load, accessibility, and learner agency. The paper argues that PACE functions not as …

Faculty Scholarship

Background: Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics improve adherence and reduce schizophrenia relapse rates vs oral antipsychotics (OAs) but remain underused. The ADVANCE study explored country-level differences in LAI use among healthcare professionals (HCPs), patients, and caregivers, to identify drivers of LAI use. Study Design: ADVANCE included participants from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Israel, South Korea, Spain, and the United States. Eligible HCPs spent ≥25% of their time in direct patient care, managed an adult population of whom ≥10% have schizophrenia, and treated patients prescribed LAIs. Patients aged ≥18 years and caregivers of adults living with schizophrenia who had tried/been offered an …

Examination Of Sportscasters To Understand The Key Overlapping Traits And Skills Exhibited, Jason Prill Dec 2025

Examination Of Sportscasters To Understand The Key Overlapping Traits And Skills Exhibited, Jason Prill

Masters Theses

The world of sportscasting is a growing and crowded field. Due to its appeal, the field itself has become competitive with a few select broadcasters holding the most coveted positions. These broadcasters have set themselves apart in their skills, leading to their placement at the pinnacle of the industry. However, a lack of research has presented a gap in the field on what skills are most dominant for successful sportscasters. As an understudied avenue, sportscasting often goes overlooked in traditional research due to its misnomer as a “fun” profession. The following presents an in-depth look at high-level sportscasters to find …

Sustainability Without Sacrifice: Rethinking Convenient Eating For Young Professionals, Teresa E. Michael Dec 2025

Sustainability Without Sacrifice: Rethinking Convenient Eating For Young Professionals, Teresa E. Michael

Masters Theses

Young professionals want to eat more sustainably– but life gets in the way. Between long hours, limited budgets, and an overwhelming stream of content, sustainable choices often fall apart in favor of convenience. This research explores that gap between values and behavior, asking: How do young adults actually make food decisions, and how can we help those decisions become more sustainable without demanding perfection? To answer that, I grounded my work in a literature review focused on food literacy, convenience culture, digital media, and behavioral psychology. I also conducted three case studies of food-tech companies (Too Good To Go, Misfits …

Understanding Barriers To High School Teen Self-Expression, Connection & Inclusion., Susana Estes Dec 2025

Understanding Barriers To High School Teen Self-Expression, Connection & Inclusion., Susana Estes

Masters Theses

This thesis investigates the invisible barriers that prevent high school students from expressing their identities, forming meaningful connections, and experiencing a sense of belonging within school environments. Drawing on research in adolescent development, school climate, psychology of belonging, and participatory design, the study identifies structural, emotional, and social factors that contribute to student disconnection. Through a review of key theorists and three case studies, the research reveals that teens need structured opportunities for safe self-expression, visible affirmation of their identities, and accessible spaces for reflective interaction. In response, this thesis presents a research-informed interactive design solution: a two-part installation titled …

Jefferson Hospital Staff Papers and Presentations

BACKGROUND: Patients with COVID-19 are at risk of thrombotic and cardiovascular complications. Existing risk estimates derive from early COVID-19 experiences. More recent event rates, temporal trends, and the association between vaccination status and cardiovascular outcomes remain unclear.

METHODS: The CORONA-VTE Network (COVID-19 Registry to Assess Frequency, Risk Factors, Management, and Outcomes of Arterial and Venous Thromboembolic Complications) multicenter registry included patients with COVID-19 from March 2020 to February 2024. A composite of venous and arterial thrombotic events and a composite of adjudicated cardiovascular events were assessed at 90 days after COVID-19 diagnosis. Time-to-first-event analyses were stratified by inpatients and outpatients …

Enabling Constraints In Artmaking: Developing Creative Confidence Through Discarded Materials, Lydia Romney Stewart Dec 2025

Enabling Constraints In Artmaking: Developing Creative Confidence Through Discarded Materials, Lydia Romney Stewart

Theses and Dissertations

This design-based research thesis explores the possibility of fostering creative confidence in students and examines how a project-based curriculum can help them rediscover their artistic abilities. It investigates two guiding questions: How does working with repurposed materials shape students' artmaking, creative confidence and sense of ownership in their artwork? And, in what ways do enabling constraints serve as a catalyst for student engagement? As a teacher-researcher, I designed and implemented a quarter-long curriculum in which 21 junior high students were challenged to create a collaborative public art installation using only discarded materials. The methodology blended qualitative and quantitative data, including …

Social Media: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Kyung-Ah Judy Chang Dec 2025

Social Media: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Kyung-Ah Judy Chang

ETD Collection

As social media use is increasingly prevalent, many studies have examined the effects of social media breaks. However, little is known about the factors that make it difficult for people to stay off social media during a break. The present study aimed to better understand the psychological effects of a one-week social media break and the factors associated with lapses, or “cheating” by going back onto social media, during the break. Forty-two participants completed baseline questionnaires and daily surveys assessing psychological states, including loneliness, fear of missing out (FOMO), positive and negative affect, boredom, craving, and mental health symptoms. Participants …

Investing In Youths And Their Families: A Proposal For Grant Funding To Expand Mental Health Services At A Community-Based Center, Eliana M. Lopez Dec 2025

Investing In Youths And Their Families: A Proposal For Grant Funding To Expand Mental Health Services At A Community-Based Center, Eliana M. Lopez

ETD Collection

Mental health services across the United States remain inequitably distributed, leaving under-resourced communities with limited access to essential services (Breslau et al., 2022). These disparities persist even in large metropolitan areas like New York City (NYC), with the Bronx, one of the city’s most historically marginalized and under-resourced borough, being especially vulnerable to disparities in mental health care (Breslau et al., 2022). The Family Advocacy Program (FAP), a community-based center part of the Department of Pediatrics at Jacobi Medical Center (JMC), is presently in need of additional financial resources to further expand their services to meet the rising mental health …

Leveraging Custom Gpt Bots To Enhance Learning In Economics, Larisa Ray Dec 2025

Leveraging Custom Gpt Bots To Enhance Learning In Economics, Larisa Ray

Teaching Repository of AI-Infused Learning

Students engage with instructor-designed GPT-powered bots (e.g., ECONOHelper, Owlnomics, Alpha (student bot)) to practice applying economic theories and solving structured case studies. Bots are programmed to withhold direct answers initially, prompting students with guiding questions to stimulate analysis before offering feedback or clarification.

For example:

  • In Microeconomics, ECONOHelper helps students interpret supply and demand graphs, calculate elasticity, and analyze pricing strategies for products such as Tesla’s Cybertruck or staple foods.
  • In Macroeconomics, Owlnomics guides students through models such as Aggregate Expenditures (AE) and AD-AS, asking them to predict outcomes of fiscal and monetary policies in real-world-inspired scenarios like “Larissaland” or …

Rhetorical Strategies In Legal Argument: Their Influence On Judicial Decisions And Public Perception, Olivia Deluca Dec 2025

Rhetorical Strategies In Legal Argument: Their Influence On Judicial Decisions And Public Perception, Olivia Deluca

Honors College Theses

The relationship between rhetoric and law has long been debated by scholars, theorists, and practitioners. This project explores how rhetorical strategies used in judicial writing and legal discourse influence both judicial decision making and public perception of the law. Drawing on classical rhetorical theory, contemporary legal scholarship, and qualitative research, this study investigates how appeals to morality, precedent, and narrative shape legal legitimacy. The research incorporates interviews with legal professionals and textual analysis of landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases to examine how rhetorical language both reflects and constructs legal authority. Findings suggest that rhetoric functions not only as a persuasive …

Art And Reentry: A Study On The Role Of Art Programs In The Reentry Of Formerly Incarcerated People, Angelina Paulus Dec 2025

Art And Reentry: A Study On The Role Of Art Programs In The Reentry Of Formerly Incarcerated People, Angelina Paulus

Honors Theses

Arts programs are a well-established method of rehabilitation in prisons, yet limited research has examined the role of arts programs specifically during the post-incarceration reentry process. This qualitative study explores how participation in an arts-based reentry program shapes the emotional, social, and identity-related experience of formerly incarcerated individuals during reentry. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five formerly incarcerated men who formerly participated in As We Emerge, a performance-based theater and monologue program offered through EMERGE Connecticut in New Haven, CT. Using inductive thematic analysis, three primary themes emerged: (1) processing emotions, (2) the development of social support and community connections, …
