A Mixed Methods Study Of Undergraduate Psychology Students At An Evangelical University: The Integration Of Psychology And Christianity, Claire Voshell
Senior Honors Theses
The integration of psychology and spirituality has gained attention in both religious and secular communities over the last decade, and there has been an increased emphasis on Christian integration in the last few years. Current literature is primarily focused on frameworks and theories for integration. This thesis examines the existing literature on current methods of teaching integration and its applications within social work, church ministry, counseling, and education. By completing the Psychology-Faith Integration scale and a brief semi-structured interview, participants detailed how they understood and experienced the integration of psychology and Christianity throughout their undergraduate psychology programs. Scores on the …

“Mexico Has Spilt American Blood Upon American Soil!” The Role Of The Mexico-U.S. Border In The Promotion Of American Nationalism, 1821-1920, Jon M. Williams Phd
Sociology ETDs
International borders not only serve as the edge of a nation-state's sovereign territory, but they also aid in informing popular conceptions of its national identity. This study examines how the Mexico - U.S. border served as a spark for episodes of American nationalism from 1821-1920. In examining three historical periods whereby the border was forming, disrupted, or challenged, I demonstrate how borders serve as sources, both symbolically and physically for the expressions of American nationalism. I utilize inductive qualitative discourse analysis of American actors embedded along the border, in Mexico, or serving as political leaders, to sample some of the …

Chemical weed control in pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) often relies on herbicide applications made at planting, which results in weed escapes later in the growing season. The use of postemergence herbicides in row middles is useful, especially in no-till pumpkin production, but there are limited effective options. We conducted field research in 2023 at Wanatah and Lafayette, IN, USA, to evaluate ‘Bayhorse Gold’ pumpkin response to carfentrazone, glufosinate, and glyphosate applied to 10% of the vine tip 5 weeks after planting. A non-treated control was included for comparison. Pooled across both locations at 1, 2, and 4 weeks after …
Target-Driven Exploration: Intrinsic Rewards For Sparse Reward Problems, Chengyu Li
Target-Driven Exploration: Intrinsic Rewards For Sparse Reward Problems, Chengyu Li
Electrical and Systems Engineering Undergraduate Student Research
Sparse reward environments present a significant challenge in reinforcement learning (RL) due to the limited feedback from extrinsic rewards. This research proposes a target-driven exploration framework that leverages intrinsic rewards derived from self-supervised feature extraction to guide agents toward meaningful states. The framework employs three feature extraction methods—Raw Pixels, Random Fixed Features, and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs)—to represent state embeddings and compute intrinsic motivation. Evaluations on benchmark environments, such as SpaceInvaders, demonstrate improved exploration efficiency and learning capabilities. The results highlight the framework's ability to utilize intrinsic rewards effectively, enabling agents to navigate and learn in complex, sparse reward settings. Future …

The availability of natural resources drives the exploration and transformation of remote regions in the Arctic and beyond. Extractive infrastructure is one of the major sources of industrial development and environmental impact on landscapes. For Indigenous people, these landscapes are homely environments full of sentient beings, and for other local communities, they provide a wide variety of subsistence and hunting resources. While extractive infrastructure violence is the evident issue for many Indigenous communities, there are more complicated situations where extractive infrastructure is adopted and utilized for the subsistence and support of other human and more-than-human relations in local and Indigenous …
China Maritime Report No. 43: Shadow Force, A Look Inside The Pla Navy Reserve, Tiffany Tat
China Maritime Report No. 43: Shadow Force, A Look Inside The Pla Navy Reserve, Tiffany Tat
CMSI China Maritime Reports
Main Findings
- The PLA Navy Reserve is an important and understudied element of PRC maritime power that could augment the active-duty force and improve its ability to undertake global operations and wage a protracted war.
- The PLAN Reserve appears to be transitioning from a substandard backup force to an increasingly well-trained complement to the active-duty force.
- In the past, the PLAN Reserve suffered from low morale and lackluster participation. Training scandals occurred in which navy reservists did not muster up when recalled for training. It is unclear to what extent these problems persist today.
- The overhaul of the PLAN’s reserve …

Solar Module Material And Support Testing, Darbi Dorr
Solar Module Material And Support Testing, Darbi Dorr
Honors Theses
Sunseeker Solar Car Project manufactures and uses solar modules with a specific material composition to power their car. The current composition consists of many expired materials that are also too expensive to repurchase. In order to find new materials, they need to meet the material requirements while also being affordable for the team. A material analysis was done, and new materials were chosen based on specific properties like transmissibility, UV wavelength range, volume resistivity, adhesion strength, and the thickness. Power losses were then measured using an IV tracer at a set irradiance. This was done before and after encapsulating solar …

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that more commonly affects African American people, although it is seen in people of all racial backgrounds. This condition is characterized by a dysregulated immune response resulting in widespread inflammation. Clinical manifestations caused by this inflammation include arthritis, anemia, cutaneous rashes, pleuritis, and nephritis. Treatment for SLE aims to reduce disease activity and maintain a state of low inflammation. In this regard, numerous treatments are used, such as hydroxychloroquine, glucocorticoids, and non-glucocorticoid immunosuppressants such as methotrexate. Related to these drugs resulting in significant adverse effects and being ineffective in controlling SLE symptoms …

Background: Solid tumors vary by the immunogenic potential of the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the likelihood of response to immunotherapy. The emerging literature has identified key immune cell populations that significantly impact immune activation or suppression within the TME. This study investigated candidate T-cell populations and their differential infiltration within different tumor types as estimated from mRNA co-expression levels of the corresponding cellular markers.
Methods: We analyzed the mRNA co-expression levels of cellular biomarkers that define stem-like tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), tissue-resident memory T-cells (TRM), early dysfunctional T-cells, late dysfunctional T-cells, activated-potentially anti-tumor (APA) T-cells and Butyrophilin 3A (BTN3A) isoforms, utilizing …

Deployable Assembly Structure And Harnessing For A Langmuir Probe (Dash-Lp), Sean Cowell
Honors Theses
The nanosatellite being designed by the Western Aerospace Launch Initiative (WALI) will demonstrate the technology of single-polarity electrospray thrusters. Essential to the mission is the collection of information from the ionospheric plasma surrounding the CubeSat in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Due to the plasma sheath generated by the spacecraft, a 1.75 m boom is required to extend the Langmuir probe (LP) outside of the region of disturbed plasma. This project, Deployable Assembly Structure and Harnessing for a Langmuir Probe (DASH-LP), developed components that accompany the boom deployment system. In particular, a cable stowage system to store the RG403 shielded triaxial …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
An inconsistent application of neuroprotective care provided by clinical staff, based on my observations, to minimize the negative effects of painful procedures that can negatively impact the neurodevelopment of neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), was the identified practice problem for my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) staff education project. Implementation of evidence-based neuroprotective and neuropromotive strategies aim to optimize outcomes for premature infants and minimize risk of potential negative effects to the neonate’s short and long term neurodevelopment. The DNP project practice-focused question addressed whether a presentation of an evidence-based educational program for NICU clinical staff would …
