Mitigating Financial Waste In The U.S. Healthcare System: An Ai-Driven Framework For Real-Time Fraud Detection In Medicare And Medicaid, Umma Twaha

Finance, Economics, and Data Analytics

The financial waste associated with fraud, abuse, and inefficient claims processing remains a significant challenge to the sustainability of the United States healthcare system, specifically in Medicare and Medicaid programs. The traditional fraud detection systems are mostly reactive, and they are unable to cope up with the increasing volume and complexity of the healthcare claims data. The recent developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) present the potential of improving the process of detecting fraud by applying real-time surveillance and predictive analytics. This paper will discuss the perception of stakeholders on the problem of financial waste in the U.S. …

Becoming Connective: Strengthening Diversity In Nursing Education, Melanie Jacobs

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Abstract Diversity in the nursing profession does not match the demographic of patients in the United States and correcting this mismatch could positively impact health disparities in the country. This post-intentional phenomenological study examines the current relationship between nursing education, as the pipeline into the profession, and students from underrepresented racial and ethnic (URRE) groups in the nursing profession to offer movement into the development of a stronger connection. In this qualitative study, phenomenological and poststructural tenets were used to seek the phenomenon of becoming connective, the creative tendency toward connection between URRE and nursing education. Data were generated from …

Acquisition Targeting: Toward Modelling Small Business Acquisition With Machine Learning, Jeremy Chambers Dec 2024

Acquisition Targeting: Toward Modelling Small Business Acquisition With Machine Learning, Jeremy Chambers

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

Small business acquisition suffers from a lack of information transparency, and many business buyers consequently value acquisitions differently. This project uses the case study methodology to analyze Sound Hardware Inc. and its management team to understand its context in-depth and provide a model that calculates an acquisition price in addition to offering business planning. It does this by using machine learning algorithms to reduce the number of engineered variables resulting in a priority list of factors contributing to value. This core process of dimensionality reduction is followed by a sample valuation that uses the results of the dimensionality reduction in …

Speculations On Brunelleschi’S Pazzi Chapel, Howard A. Risatti Professor Emeritus, Donald Schrader Dec 2024

Speculations On Brunelleschi’S Pazzi Chapel, Howard A. Risatti Professor Emeritus, Donald Schrader

Art Inquiries

Why speculate on Filippo Brunelleschi’s Pazzi Chapel? As Giorgio Vasari wrote, many of Brunelleschi’s projects were not finished in his lifetime and not as he wished. The lesson to be drawn, says Vasari, who was writing a century after Brunelleschi’s death, is that “anyone who wishes to leave a memorial of his existence should complete it in his own lifetime and not put faith in anyone else.” Since Brunelleschi died well before the chapel was completed, issues have been raised for over a century about its inconsistencies regarding the open loggia, the barrel-vaulted portico, and the façade. This paper addresses …

Napoleon’S Corpse And The Subversion Of Historical And Political Authority, Alissa Rachel Adams Dec 2024

Napoleon’S Corpse And The Subversion Of Historical And Political Authority, Alissa Rachel Adams

Art Inquiries

This article examines printed depictions of Napoleon Bonaparte’s exhumed corpse in conjunction with Romantic historical practice in nineteenth-century France. Current studies on history in the Romantic age emphasize Romantic historicism’s link to a widespread and frustrated yearning for direct access to the past that will settle the upheavals of the revolutionary period. This study considers how the corpse and its representations fulfill the desire for direct access to the past but, in doing so, also contributes to a proliferation of individual understandings of the past—and future. Through an analysis of representations of the corpse, their sources, and their connection to …

A Mother's Understanding Of Her Adolescent: A Social Anxiety Study, Cheronda Pinkard Dec 2024

A Mother's Understanding Of Her Adolescent: A Social Anxiety Study, Cheronda Pinkard

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) affects 1% to 13% of adolescents, often placing significant demands on their caregivers. Mothers frequently adapt their behaviors to accommodate their child’s anxiety, which may impact their well-being and the parent-child relationship. This qualitative study explored the lived experiences of mothers accommodating adolescents with SAD to understand better the emotional and relational toll of this caregiving role. The problem addressed is the limited understanding of how maternal accommodation affects mothers. Mental health practitioners, educators, and policymakers may benefit from this research by gaining insight into these families' challenges and informing family-centered interventions and support services. Guided …

Molecular Mechanism Governing The Plasticity Of Use-Dependent Spike Broadening In Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons, Tyler D. Alexander, Stephen Tymanskyj, Kyle J. Kennedy, Leonard K. Kaczmarek, Manuel Covarrubias Dec 2024

Molecular Mechanism Governing The Plasticity Of Use-Dependent Spike Broadening In Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons, Tyler D. Alexander, Stephen Tymanskyj, Kyle J. Kennedy, Leonard K. Kaczmarek, Manuel Covarrubias

SKMC Student Presentations and Publications

Use-dependent spike broadening (UDSB) results from inactivation of the voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channels that regulate the repolarization of the action potential. However, the specific signaling and molecular processes that modulate UDSB have remained elusive. Here, we applied an adeno-associated viral vector approach and dynamic clamping to conclusively demonstrate how multisite phosphorylation of the N-terminal inactivation domain (NTID) of the Kv3.4 channel modulates UDSB in rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. The Kv3.4 phosphonull variant promotes slow recovery from inactivation, cumulative inactivation, and UDSB. In contrast, the Kv3.4 phosphomimic variant promotes fast recovery from inactivation and robust resistance to cumulative inactivation …

I Second That Emotion: Examining The Association Between Emotion Regulation Skills And Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms After A Traumatic Event In A Sample Of Black College Students, Cheyenne Ashley Dec 2024

I Second That Emotion: Examining The Association Between Emotion Regulation Skills And Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms After A Traumatic Event In A Sample Of Black College Students, Cheyenne Ashley

Graduate Masters Theses

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has been termed an “emotion disorder” due to its association with obstructing trauma survivors’ ability to regulate their emotions (Frewen & Lanius, 2006, as cited in Tull et al., 2020, p. 295). Previous research consistently shows individuals with PTSD experience significant difficulties in emotion regulation (ER) skills (e.g., Ehring & Quack, 2010). Despite the unique systemic challenges inherent in the experience of Black Folk which can exacerbate PTSD symptom severity (Carter, 2020; Bird et al., 2021), research focusing on Black trauma survivors remains limited.

This study utilized 3 self-report measures: the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale …
