In many areas of the world, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions, groundwater is the primary source of fresh water, and it supplies around one-third of the world's fresh water. Agriculture is the primary economic sector on the coast in the southern district (Nowshera). More food productivity is required due to the expanding population and diminishing agricultural lands, which increases the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in farming. The current study was conducted in northwestern parts of Pakistan to evaluate the impacts of the frequent use of pesticides and fertilizers in agricultural fields. Nine hydrogeological parameters were considered, and …

Grounding Digital Scholarship In The Analog: Reimagining Library Fellowships Post-Pandemic, Amanda Licastro, Roberto Vargas

Library Staff Works

A digital object is grounded in the analog. By examining the object in a continuum rather than its current state, we can better understand both the analog item and its digital representation. As part of this pedagogical exploration, we reimagined a year-long, library-based, digital scholarship fellowship that provides hands-on instruction for undergraduate students, grounded in physical collections and spaces, but resulting in digital manifestations. The fellowship focuses on social justice by highlighting ethical issues in the field of digital scholarship, specifically exploring the topics of labor, race, gender, disability, infrastructure, and environmental inequality. We frame the work through a pedagogy of …

Concussions In Women’S Rugby: A Timely Review Of Available Data, Shannon M. Wright Dec 2024

Concussions In Women’S Rugby: A Timely Review Of Available Data, Shannon M. Wright

Clinical Practice in Athletic Training

Rugby is a growing full-contact sport across the world for both men and women; as a full-contact sport with no protective equipment, it has a reputation for high injury rates, including concussions. Organized men’s rugby has been established for over a century, whereas organized women’s rugby has struggled to achieve the same success over the years. With a much shorter amount of time to track injuries, women’s rugby lacks data to assess when, where, and what kinds of injuries are most common. The guiding study attempts to examine epidemiological trends for concussion in women’s rugby union and league. After pooling …

Geochemical Characterization Of Hydrocarbon Source Rocks In The Jurassic – Cretaceous Ruvu Sub-Basin- Within The Coastal Basin Of Tanzania; Implications For Petroleum Prospecting., Hadija H Maumba, Charles H Kasanzu

Tanzania Journal of Science

In this study, we characterize hydrocarbon source rocks from the Ruvu sub-basin’s Kiwangwa well-1 using organic matter, total organic carbon (TOC), rock-eval pyrolysis and vitrinite reflectance data. Analytical results indicate fair to excellent TOC contents in the sub-basin, a feature suggesting conditions that favor organic matter production and preservation. Kerogen types II to IV are inferred for the Kiwangwa well-1 sediments. Using TOC vs S2 for the Early Jurassic and Triassic of Kiwangwa well -1 at depth intervals, good to very good source rocks are inferred. This suggests high generative organic matter suitable for hydrocarbon production. None generative organic matter …

Finite Element Models For Predicting Moisture Effects On Bolt Embedment And Connection In Timber, Henry Meleki Kiwelu Dec 2024

Finite Element Models For Predicting Moisture Effects On Bolt Embedment And Connection In Timber, Henry Meleki Kiwelu

Tanzania Journal of Science

The mechanical performances of timber connections are particularly important for timber engineers involved in the design of the wood structures. The mechanism of connection must be well understood in order to design a safer connection and avoid catastrophic failure. Often connections are made weak fuse elements by deliberate intent to ensure that if structural systems fail it will be by controllable ductile deformation of connections in load paths. Model method of determining engineering design capacities of laterally loaded dowel fasteners, such as bolts, screws and nails was developed. It should however be pointed out that FE and similar continuum model …
