The purpose of this research was to enhance the surface of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) film by using single and hybrid nucleating agents to reduce fat stains from food adherence on the film surface for easy rinsing before recycling, consequently reducing energy consumption before recycling. The process begins with the preparation of a high-concentration masterbatch of LLDPE with nucleating agents and polyethylene glycol (PEG), followed by blown film and test analysis. The results showed that both single and hybrid nucleating agents resulted in substantial modifications in the surface characteristics of the film. The altered surface texture of the film makes …

This study describes a simple microwave process for fabricating porous geopolymer-polymer based Shirasu soil. The porous geopolymer samples were synthesized using sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution as alkaline solution in range of 0.5 M to 9 M. After mixing process, the geopolymer slurry was heated and stimulated geopolymerization reaction by different microwave powers at 200 W, 500 W and 700 W for 30 s, 60 s, 90 s and 120 s. Superalloys are the preferred materials for modern high-rotational complex components due to their exceptional ability to maintain critical properties such as strength, oxidation/corrosion resistance, even under extreme temperatures and dynamic impacts. This study investigates the dynamic impact response of nanoprecipitation-hardened 718 alloy (NPH-718 alloy) under various loading conditions. The wrought nickel-based NPH-718 alloy was transformed into a nanostructured state through a precise heat treatment process involving controlled cooling rates (28℃∙s‒1 to 30℃∙s‒1). The atmospheric acid leaching studies of a limonite ore sample from the Wolo mine area, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, have been performed using hydrochloric acid (HCl) and nitric acid (HNO3). The objectives of these studies were to compare the leaching degree of metals (Ni, Co, Fe, and Al) and to analyze the dissolution behavior of minerals under different acid concentrations. Magnesium alloys have gained attention as biodegradable bone repair biomaterials. Unlike non-biodegradable materials like titanium and tantalum, biodegradable implants offer advantages in promoting bone healing and minimizing chronic inflammatory reactions. However, the impact of the implant's degradation on the osteogenic environment remains a concern. The Mg-Zn-Ca-MgO composite, being biocompatible and containing osteogenic ions, is a promising candidate. This study assesses the degradability and in vitro/in vivo biocompatibility of two Mg-Zn-Ca-MgO composites with varying degradation rates. The Mg-1Zn-0.2Ca-1.0MgO composite was prepared, and leaching solutions were created following standard protocols. Musical ekphrasis, as defined by musicologist Siglind Bruhn (2001), refers to musical compositions that transform, re-create, or ‘re-present’ a work of visual art or poetry. Though there exists a significant body of musical works that are based on visual art and poetry, there is a distinct lack of research and documentation on musical ekphrasis, particularly in the field of jazz and improvised music. This thesis consists of two parts, a collection of poems, “The Commonwealth of Amnesia”, and an accompanying exegesis. The collection explores the forgotten histories of Croatian and Yugoslav immigrants in Australia from 1901 to 1957 through the medium of erasure and cut-up poetry, re-arranging words found in nonfiction documents to posit that forgetting can be metaphorically and visually represented through erasure while also re-narrativising a text. Erasure poetry takes a textual document and using whiteout or blackout erases portions of a text, transforming that text into a poem; cut-up poetry rearranges the words of a document in a textual version …

Pre-service teachers experience many stressors while undertaking their undergraduate degree. These include course related stressors such as academic struggles, financial pressures surrounding outside employment to fund studies, and personal stressors with partners, family and friends exacerbated by coursework pressures. Furthermore, the practicum is known to amplify the effect of these stressors on pre-service teachers because of the time intense commitment involved. Stress, both internally generated or externally imposed, is detrimental to mental wellness and can ultimately impact pre-service teacher effectiveness.

Aligned with emerging research agendas for critical (intersectional and decolonial) climate justice, this research aims to co-create place-based knowledges and actions about how communities and movements organise for climate justice. Organising for climate justice in Western Australia (WA) is particularly difficult because of the strong influence of the fossil fuel industry and the prevailing racial capitalist, colonial, and patriarchal responses to climate change in policy and mainstream climate movements. These systems of power often reproduce, for example, intersecting gender, race, and class inequalities, which marginalise communities most impacted by climate injustice. Antimicrobial resistance is rising while new drug development declines, making antimicrobial stewardship crucial for optimizing use, preventing resistance, and improving patient outcomes. Antibiotics are vital for bacterial infections, but overuse and inappropriate prescribing have contributed to resistance. Although 5-35% of the global population reports β-lactam allergies, over 90% of reports are inaccurate. Adults have the highest prevalence; however, these labels are often acquired in childhood, with a notable increase among children recently. Unverified allergy labels hinder antimicrobial stewardship, leading to longer hospital stays, alternative prescribing, and a higher risk of adverse events.

INTRODUCTION: Sepsis remains a major cause of mortality and morbidity in infants. In recent years, several gene marker strategies for the early identification of sepsis have been proposed but only a few have been independently validated for adult cohorts and applicability to infant sepsis remains unclear. Biomarkers to assess disease severity and risks of shock also represent an important unmet need.

METHODS: To elucidate characteristics driving sepsis in infants, we assembled a multi-transcriptomic dataset from public microarray datasets originating from five independent studies pertaining to bacterial sepsis in infant < 6-months of age (total n=335). We utilized a COmbat co-normalization strategy to enable comparative evaluation across multiple studies while preserving the relationship between cases and controls.

Perinatal substance use (PSU) is a serious and growing public health concern. It is associated with a variety of adverse health outcomes for both mother and child and has been shown to negatively impact the parent-child relationship. Despite the growing prevalence of PSU, there are notable deficits in provider knowledge regarding, and comfortability with, PSU. Moreover, providers report feelings of judgment, resentment, fear, and hesitancy related to their work with women with PSU.
