Investigating Drought Response And Paleoclimate Potential Of A New Network Of White Oak Chronologies In Western Kentucky, Usa, Audrey J. Heichelbech, Maegen L. Rochner, Megan Gibson
Undergraduate Research Events
In Kentucky, historic and paleo-climate data are limited, and current understanding of long-term climate change in the state relies on instrumental data spanning only 1895-present. Proxy data are necessary to extend the temporal and spatial span of climate information. One potential proxy source for Kentucky is tree ring data, but currently, only four such datasets are publicly available on the International Tree Ring Data Bank (ITRDB). Archaeological and archival timber sources may help to fill in this gap. In the 1940s, Florence Hawley-Ellis, the first woman dendrochronologist, collected samples of white oak (Quercus alba L.) from four counties in western …

Graduate School of Professional Psychology: Doctoral Papers and Masters Projects
According to the 2020 United States Census, the Latine community is the second largest ethnic represents 18.9% of the total United States population and is expected to grow to 28% by the year 2060 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2018). Despite this, the Latine community continues to be underserved and often underutilize behavioral health services (Blanco et al., 2007). For this reason, it is imperative that psychologists and other behavioral health providers have specialized training to best meet the community’s needs. The current literature fails to explore how Latine psychology concentrations are curated to train and inform future clinicians. This study examined …

Alkali chloride attack on boiler pipe walls is considered the main problem of corrosion in the waste-to-energy (WTE) industry, even though uses superalloy. Electrophoretic deposited (EPD) yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coating is carried out to protect the Inconel 625 substrate. YSZ is deposited directly both on the Inconel 625 substrate and NiCo-Inconel 625. Corrosion resistance was conducted using the 3.5% NaCl electrochemical test and the hot salt corrosion test at 600°C in alkaline salt media such as NaCl, KCl, and CaCl2. The potentiodynamic polarization curve shows that the YSZ coating deposited on the substrate (single-layer) has a corrosion rate of 0.065 …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
An alloy based on Ti–Al–Zr–Nb–V was prepared and its deformation behavior at elevated temperatures was studied. The microstructure and phase of the alloys were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing. The results showed that the Ti–Al–Zr–Nb–V alloy, when stretched, exhibits a superplasticity effect in the range of 975℃ to 1100℃, with an elongation of up to 400%. It was found that superplasticity develops in the temperature region of the α+β→β transition and is accompanied by a change in grain size and redistribution of alloying elements among phases.

This study introduces a new technique to fabricate the reversible poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposites thermochromism. Our preparation process is the solution-mixing method, which is supported by microwave synthesis time instead of ultrasonic bath or stirrer. The presence of ethanol molecules in aqueous media in the solution-mixing method induces dipolar polarization. In addition, the presence of Zn2+ leaking out of the ZnO can produce ionic polarization. These factors affect the shape of poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposites based on their thermochromic properties. The optical properties of poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposite were determined through UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The morphology of this nanocomposite was examined by scanning electron microscopy, and …

Zn metal batteries and capacitors (ZMBs/ZMCs) are gaining significant attention due to their low cost, high safety, and high theoretical capacity. However, the low utilization of Zn metal decreases the coulombic efficiency. Here, we present a novel approach to enhance the conductivity of host materials by utilizing a 3D conductive structural network of copper mesh. The 3D copper mesh serves as a high-conductive matrix and additionally coating it with Zn serves as a Zn source. Finally, a flexible reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was deposited on the Zn-coated copper mesh as an anode protective layer. The conductive copper mesh renders a …

Controlling Titanium Incorporation In Hydrogenated Amorphous Carbon Films Via Closed-Loop Feedback In Reactive High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering, Pornthip Ratchayotee, Artit Chingsungnoen, Phitsanu Poolcharuansin
Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals
A closed-loop feedback approach has been developed to control titanium incorporation in hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) films during reactive high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (R-HiPIMS). The average discharge current measured at the magnetron target is used as the primary feedback signal to regulate the target coverage state. Hence, the titanium concentration in the films can be controlled. Significant changes were observed in the film microstructure and properties as the target state evolved with increasing target coverage. This causes the film transition from metallic titanium to a-C:H films with decreasing titanium concentration. For example, the XRD and Raman analyses indicated a microstructural …

The concept of composition-induced phase transformation in Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) at the Morphotropic Phase Boundary (MPB) has been employed to improve functional properties of the (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramic. However, it was observed that the phase diagram of the (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramic is different to the PZT. As a result, the nature of the superior functional properties found in (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramic is unlike PZT and still unclear so far. In this work, functional properties; dielectric, ferroelectric, energy storage, and piezoelectric properties, of the (1-x)BZT-(x)BCT ceramics where x = 0.3 mol% to 0.6 mol% were evaluated at room temperature in comparison to the …

The purpose of this research was to enhance the surface of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) film by using single and hybrid nucleating agents to reduce fat stains from food adherence on the film surface for easy rinsing before recycling, consequently reducing energy consumption before recycling. The process begins with the preparation of a high-concentration masterbatch of LLDPE with nucleating agents and polyethylene glycol (PEG), followed by blown film and test analysis. The results showed that both single and hybrid nucleating agents resulted in substantial modifications in the surface characteristics of the film. The altered surface texture of the film makes …
