Abstract Background/purpose Challenges exist regarding the bonding efficiency of polyaryletherketone (PAEK), a high-performance thermoplastic, attributed to its chemical inertness and hydrophobic surface, hindering effective bonding with resin-matrix cement. This research explored the impact of handheld nonthermal plasma (HNP), under varying operational parameters, on PAEK surface wettability and changes in bonding performance with cement. Materials and methods Three types of disc-shaped PEAK specimens were prepared, with surface treatments categorized as grinding, airborne-particle abrasion (APB), and HNP. Abstract Background/purpose Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) represents a rare yet serious adverse reaction associated with the prolonged use of anti-bone resorptive or anti-angiogenic agents. This study aimed to investigate the impact and underlying mechanisms of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) in preventing MRONJ in a mouse model. Abstract Background /purpose In cases where oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) invades the jawbone, clinicians frequently observe abnormal attenuation on computed tomography (CT) and pathologic signal intensity (SI) on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the affected underlying bone marrow. This study introduced a concept of “underlying bone change” to examine its association with clinicopathological features and prognosis of OSCC, as well as its correlation with medullary invasion. Abstract Background/purpose Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF), characterized by excessive collagen deposition by myofibroblasts, is often linked to Areca nuts consumption. Probiotics consumption has shown protective effects against fibrotic diseases, and recently, their metabolic byproducts, known as postbiotics, have demonstrated superior advantages over probiotics. Abstract Background/purpose Cementum shares many properties with bone; however, in contrast to bone, it is not innervated or vascularized and has a limited capacity for remodeling. Osteocytes located in the lacunae-canalicular system of bone tissue play a central role in bone remodeling by communicating with osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Although cementocytes are present in cellular cementum and are morphologically similar to osteocytes, it remains unclear whether they are involved in the dynamic functional regulation of metabolism in cementum. This study evaluated their effectiveness using questions from the Japanese national dental hygienist examination, focusing on textual information only. Materials and methods We analyzed 73 questions from the 32nd Japanese national dental hygienist examination, conducted in March 2023, using LLMs ChatGPT-3.5, GPT-4, Bard, and Bing Chat. Abstract Background/purpose Quantitative in vitro research was conducted on the learning process of a dynamic navigation system. This study provides guidance for the promotion and application of dynamic navigation technology in the endodontic apical surgery field. Materials and methods Standardized models were designed and 3D printed to form the approach operation of endodontic apical surgery. 6 clinicians with no experience in dynamic navigation performed the operation. Abstract Background/purpose Oral pathologies in ancient human remains provide a unique glimpse into the lifestyles, health, and societal norms of past civilizations, including ancient Egypt. However, comprehensive paleo-odontological studies accounting for temporal and sociodemographic variations remain scarce. The purpose of this investigation was to investigate the effect of zirconia (ZrO2)-magnesia (MgO)-based investment combined with an argon arc vacuum pressure (Ar-arc VP) casting process on the recasting of high Au alloys. Abstract The shift towards virtual assessment in dental education represents a significant advancement over traditional evaluation methods, offering new opportunities for assessing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This review examines the use of virtual assessment tools within the context of dental education. A narrative literature review was conducted, analyzing studies published between 2000 and 2024, sourced from PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase. From the initial search, 13 studies were selected for qualitative synthesis.
