An Experimental Study Of The Effect Of Spindle Speed On The Spike Energy Of The Light & Heavy Spindles, Wael A. Hashima, Ibrahim A. Elhawary
Mansoura Engineering Journal
In the present work, the experimental studies were carried out the investigation of the effect of some factors on the spike energy of the light and heavy spindles used frequently; in cotton spinning and in twisting continuous filament, speed with and without the spool and also with different values of full yarn package. Depending on the rotating mass, it was found that by the increase of the heavy spindle speed from 4000 r.p.m to 12000 r.p.m, the spike energy of the spindle with full package increase from 0.5 gSE to 2.3 gSE. At the working speed (10000 r.p.m) of the …

Enhancing The Perception Of Public Urban Spaces Via Place-Making: Martyrs' Square And Selected Locations In El-Gaish Street Case Study, Vert Kamal Ramzy, Nanees Abdel Hamid Mohamed Ali Elsayyad, Lamis Saad El-Din El-Gizawi
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Trust be told that urban spaces have generated a lot of controversy in recent years. The major issues that I will address in this paper are transformations in the urban environment affected by different appearances due to economic and social changes that shape their meaning through human interactions for creating a social life. With the emergence of modern architecture and planning patterns, urban spaces have become the focus of researchers for study and analysis to determine the best destination.
This paper aims to present place-making as an approach to strengthening the perception of public urban spaces and, consequently, its impact …
Design And Construction Of A Novel Reciprocating Pin-On-Plate Wear Testing Machine, Yasser S. Mohamed, Ahmed Abdelbary
Design And Construction Of A Novel Reciprocating Pin-On-Plate Wear Testing Machine, Yasser S. Mohamed, Ahmed Abdelbary
Mansoura Engineering Journal
This manuscript introduces a new pin-on-plate tribometer established for a study of the tribological behavior of materials at a constant sliding speed. The originality of this test rig lies in its capability to perform six independent tests at the same time. Wear tests can be conducted with high reliability and low error thanks to the high rigidity of the machine. The reciprocating motion of the counterface was designed to be in an arc path. The tribometer has the facility of changing the applied load and the length of the wear path. The test machine can used to perform both dry …
Mechanics Of The Foot And Ankle Joints During Running Using A Multi-Segment Foot Model Compared With A Single-Segment Model, Justin C. Wager, John H. Challis
Mechanics Of The Foot And Ankle Joints During Running Using A Multi-Segment Foot Model Compared With A Single-Segment Model, Justin C. Wager, John H. Challis
Exercise Science Faculty Publications
The primary purpose of this study was to compare the ankle joint mechanics, during the stance phase of running, computed with a multi-segment foot model (MULTI; three segments) with a traditional single segment foot model (SINGLE). Traditional ankle joint models define all bones between the ankle and metatarsophalangeal joints as a single rigid segment (SINGLE). However, this contrasts with the more complex structure and mobility of the human foot, recent studies of walking using more multiple-segment models of the human foot have highlighted the errors arising in ankle kinematics and kinetics by using an oversimplified model of the foot. This …

Intercultural Human Rights Law Review
Michael Reisman is a beacon of light in the firmament of international law and jurisprudence. His retirement from his faculty position at the Yale Law School affords a welcome occasion to celebrate his work in the quest for a world public order of human dignity. Michael is the cherished leader of the New Haven School of Jurisprudence, an intellectual movement designed to combine the prescriptive purposes of the law with the empirical insights of the sciences to achieve the goal of the flourishing of human beings, through access by all to the processes of shaping and sharing all things humans …
Protection Of Cultural Property In Armed Conflict And Military Necessity, Fausto Pocar
Protection Of Cultural Property In Armed Conflict And Military Necessity, Fausto Pocar
Intercultural Human Rights Law Review
The protection of cultural property in armed conflict has been a matter for special consideration by customary and conventional international humanitarian law since its first expressions. The Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907 already enunciated a principle of protection in this matter, as shown in particular by the Regulations concerning the laws and customs of war on land annexed to the fourth convention, which provided that in sieges and bombardments all necessary steps must be taken to spare, as far as possible, buildings dedicated to religion, art, science, or charitable purposes, historic monuments, hospitals, and places where the sick and …

Connected vehicles (CVs) will enable various applications to improve traffic flow. This paper's focus is to investigate how the potential implementation of variable speed limit (VSL) through different types of communication and sensing technologies on CVs makes it possible to mitigate congestion at a sag curve bottleneck. A VSL algorithm is developed and implemented in a simulation environment for controlling the inflow of vehicles to a sag curve to minimize delays and increase throughput. Both vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and infrastructure-to-vehicle (I2V) options for CVs are investigated when implementing the VSL control strategy in a simulation environment. Also, for measuring traffic density …

Recurrent nuisance flooding is common across many parts of the globe and causes extensive challenges for drivers on the roadways. The prevailing monitoring methods for roadway flooding are costly and not automated or effective. The ubiquity of visual data from cameras and advancements in computing such as deep learning may offer cost-effective methods for automated flood depth estimation on roadways based on reference objects such as cars. However, flood depth estimation faces challenges due to the limited amount of data annotated with water levels and diverse scenes showing reference objects at various scales and perspectives. This study proposes a novel …

We present an application programming interface (API) which facilitates public access to a global relational database of earthquake ground motion intensity measures, associated metadata, and time-series data. Next Generation Attenuation (NGA)-East and NGA-West2 project spreadsheets have been adapted into a relational database format composed of multiple tables through a series of primary and foreign keys. The combined dataset has been expanded to include contributions from earthquakes, generally with magnitudes greater than M3.9, that have occurred since the conclusion of the data synthesis component of both projects in 2011. Currently the database includes 62,449 ground motions recorded at 9,092 stations for …

On The Area-Averaged Effective Sound Absorption Coefficient Of Porous Materials Excited By A Monopole, Franck Sgard, Noureddine Atalla, Olivier Robin, Alain Berry
On The Area-Averaged Effective Sound Absorption Coefficient Of Porous Materials Excited By A Monopole, Franck Sgard, Noureddine Atalla, Olivier Robin, Alain Berry
Études primaires
The area-averaged effective sound absorption coefficient (SAC) of a rigid-backed homogeneous porous material subjected to a monopole excitation is calculated as the absorbed-to-incident sound power ratio. Using Allard's model to describe the sound propagation above the porous material, an analytical model for this power-based SAC is proposed and proves to give a good approximation of the sound absorption performance under monopole excitation of sufficiently large areas of material. The impact of factors on the power-based SAC, such as monopole height, material radial dimension used to calculate the sound powers, and material properties is discussed. The power-based SAC frequency-dependent behavior is …

Objective The aim of the study was to identify determinants of mental health in healthcare workers (HCW) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods A cohort of Canadian HCW completed four questionnaires giving details of work with patients, ratings of workplace supports, a mental health questionnaire, and substance use. Principal components were extracted from 23 rating scales. Risk factors were examined by Poisson regression. Results A total of 4854 (97.8%) of 4964 participants completed ratings and mental health questionnaires. Healthcare workers working with patients with COVID-19 had high anxiety and depression scores. One of three extracted components, 'poor support,' was related to …

Measurement Of The Local Static Mechanical Pressure Of Earplugs, Luiz G.C. Melo, Ahmed S. Dalaq, Franck Sgard, Olivier Doutres, Laurianne Legroux, Eric Wagnac
Études primaires
Earplugs are used in various critical industrial sectors, such as construction, aviation, military and defense, transportation, and healthcare. However, they present inherent drawbacks, notably discomfort that can lead to inconsistent and incorrect use, thereby leaving a significant proportion of workers vulnerable to irreversible hearing damage, ranging from tinnitus to deafness. This discomfort is closely linked to a physical parameter known as static mechanical pressure (SMP), representing the pressure exerted by earplugs on the earcanal walls. Determining the SMP is crucial for developing earplugs that prioritize comfort. However, experimental studies in this area are scarce and there is no experimental set-up …

Disability Reduction Following A Lumbar Stabilization Exercise Program For Low Back Pain: Large Vs. Small Improvement Subgroup Analyses Of Physical And Psychological Variables, Christian Larivière, Richard Preuss, Marie-France Coutu, Michael J. Sullivan, Nicolas Roy, Sharon M. Henry
Études primaires
Background: Little is known about why patients with low back pain (LBP) respond differently to treatment, and more specifically, to a lumbar stabilization exercise program. As a first step toward answering this question, the present study evaluates how subgroups of patients who demonstrate large and small clinical improvements differ in terms of physical and psychological changes during treatment. Methods: Participants (n = 110) performed the exercise program (clinical sessions and home exercises) over eight weeks, with 100 retained at six-month follow-up. Physical measures (lumbar segmental instability, motor control impairments, range of motion, trunk muscle endurance and physical performance tests) were …
